The effect of salt stress on germination and early seedling growth of some foreign origin quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) cultivars province
Aims: This study was carried out in the laboratories of Hatay Mustafa
Kemal University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops in 2019
in order to determine the suitability of 5 foreign originated quinoa cultivars
that can be adapted to areas with salinity problems.
Methods and Results: In order to determine the tolerance to salt stress,
50 seeds were placed in each petri dishes. The research was conducted in
a germination cabinet with 4 replications according to the factorial
arrangement in completely randomized plot design. In this research,
germination rate (GR), germination index (GI), mean germination time
(MGT), radicle length (RL) and plumula length (PL) and fresh seedling
weight (FSW) values of different salt concentration levels were examined.
The used cultivars showed different reactions to salt stress level. As the
salt concentration increased, germination rate, germination index, radicle
length, plumule length and fresh plant weight decreased while the mean
germination time was prolonged.
Conclusions: As a result of the research, it was found that there were
cultivars of quinoa that can germinate and develop even at a high salt
concentration such as 400 mM and that can be cultivated even in soils with
salinity problems.
Significance and Impact of the Study: Every year, agricultural areas with
salinity problems are increasing in many part of the world as in Turkey.
Determining quinoa cultivars which are tolerant to different level of
salinity in terms of germination and development can provide valuable
information for evaluation of arable lands which has salinity problem.Amaç: Bu çalışma ülkemizde tuzluluk problemi olan
tarım alanları için tuzlu koşullara adapte olabilecek
uygun kinoa çeşitlerin belirlenmesi amacı ile 2019 yılında
Hatay Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Tarla
Bitkileri Bölümü laboratuvarlarında yürütülmüş olup,
çalışmada materyal olarak yabancı orjinli 5 adet kinoa
çeşidinin tohumu kullanılmıştır.
Yöntem ve Bulgular: Araştırma tuz stresine karşı
toleransı belirlemek amacıyla her bir petri kabına 50 adet
tohum yerleştirilerek yapılmıştır. Deneme, 4 tekkerrür
olarak tesadüf parselleri deneme deseninde faktöriyel
düzende 0, 100, 200, 300 ve 400 mM NaCl
konsantrasyonları kullanılarak çimlenme kabininde
yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada farklı tuz konsantrasyon
seviyelerinde tohumların çimlenme oranları, çimlenme
indeksi, ortalama çimlenme süresi, radikula uzunluğu,
plumula uzunluğu ve yaş bitki ağırlığı değerleri
incelenmiştir. Araştırmada kullandığımız çeşitler, tuz
stresine bağlı olarak farklı tepki göstermiştir. Tuz
yoğunluğu arttıkca, çimlenme oranı, çimlenme indeksi
radikula uzunluğu, plumula uzunluğu ve yaş bitki ağırlığı
azalırken, ortalama çimlenme süresi uzamıştır.
Genel Yorum: Araştırma neticesinde 400 mM gibi yüksek
bir tuz konsantrasyonu seviyesinde bile çimlenebilen ve
gelişebilen kinoa çeşitleri olduğu ve kinoanın ülkemizde
tuzluluk problemi olan topraklarda tarımı yapılabilecek
bir bitki olduğu söylenebilir.
Çalışmanın Önemi ve Etkisi: Her geçen yıl ülkemizde
tuzluluk problemi olan tarım alanları artmakta olup,
tuzluluğa dayanıklı olan kinoa çeşitlerinin farklı tuz
yoğunluklarında çimlenme ve gelişme üzerine etkisini
belirleyerek bu alanların değerlendirilmesinde
kullanılabilecektir
Renewable energy perspectives in the frame of Turkey's and the EU's energy policies
Renewable energy as one of the current and substantial issue needs to be investigated in terms of political outlook. So the researches on renewable energy policies under the energy policies of different countries are necessary. The emergence of renewable energy policy was the 20th century but it gained momentum in 21st century. The realization of the polluting nature of the petroleum products, their negative environment effects and the assumptions about the future of non-renewable energy sources were the driving forces behind these politics. The European Union in these conditions tries to play pioneer role. Turkey on the other hand as a candidate country has to harmonize its policies with the Union's. In this context, objective of this work is to examine the EU and Turkey's renewable energy policies, make a comparison and as a sustainability of Turkish renewable energy policy construct a future projection in short, medium and long terms. Narration of Mustafa Kemal in Novels About the Gallipoli War – II
İncelememize konu edilen romanların hiçbirinde Mustafa Kemal’i eleştiren veya onu
In the First World War, the battles of the Çanakkale front take place in 1915. However, it is only
possible to see an independent Çanakkale novel in Turkish literature with Mustafa Necati
Sepetçioğlu's three-volume work titled ...ve Çanakkale Geldiler, ve Çanakkale Gördüler, ve
Çanakkale Döndüler, which was published in 1989. The Battle of Çanakkale, an important turning
point in Turkish history, became the subject of other novels. While some of these novels directly deal
with the Gallipoli War, others indirectly touch upon it. One of the major topics of debate in Turkey is
Mustafa Kemal's influence or contribution to the battle of Gallipoli. Some say that he had no
significant influence or contribution in this war, while others say that this war was won thanks to
Mustafa Kemal. The purpose of this study is to answer the questions of how this real-life debate is
reflected in the novel genre, and how much space is given to Mustafa Kemal in novels. The novels
published after 1989 and dealing with the Çanakkale wars are Çanakkale Mahşeri (1999), Zulüm
Dağları Aşar Çanakkale İçinde (2000), Tarihe Sığmayan Destan Çanakkale (2003), Gelibolu
Yenilmezlerin Yenildiği Yer (2004), Çanakkale'de Çocuklar da Savaştı (2006), Diriliş Çanakkale
1915 (2008), 57. Alay Çanakkale (2008), Çanakkale Askerine Rütbe Gerekmez (2017), Uzun Beyaz
Bulut Gelibolu (2001) and Şafakta Yanan Mumlar (2003); from April 25, 1915, when the land battles
started, until the end of the Çanakkale War and after the war, to reveal how and how much Mustafa
Kemal is given place or what kind of mission is attributed to him. In none of the novels subject to our
analysis is there any expression or example that criticizes Mustafa Kemal or shows him negatively.
However, each author treats Mustafa Kemal with a different mission and weight. In all the novels,
Mustafa Kemal is portrayed as a farsighted, hardworking, well-educated person who is concerned
about the future of the homeland, who does not spare any effort and develops the right strategies
Experimental investigation on the thermal performance of heat recovery system with gravity assisted heat pipe charged with R134a and R410A
The purpose of this study is to investigate the thermal performance of heat recovery system with gravity assisted heat pipe charged R134a and R410A working fluids and also determine the usefulness of heat pipe bundle system in heat recovery applications. For this purpose an experimental test rig was designed and built. Series of experimental tests were carried out by varying the flue gas temperature (75, 100, 125, 150 and 175 degrees C), flue gas velocity (1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 m/s) and cooling water flow rates (1, 2, 3 and 4 l/min). Values of the overall effectiveness of the heat pipe heat recovery system are shown to vary with the flue gas velocity, as expected, but the results also allow the prediction of effectiveness variation with the variation of the flue gas temperature. Effectiveness of the heat pipe for both working fluids R134a and R410A has been varied averagely between 35.6% and 57.7% with a good agreement with the published results. Quantitatively, it is found that R134a working fluid is 14% more effective than R410A in heat pipe bundle system. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Compressed Biogas-Diesel Dual-Fuel Engine Optimization Study for Ultralow Emission
The aim of this study is to find out the optimum operating conditions in a diesel engine fueled with compressed biogas (CBG) and pilot diesel dual-fuel. One-dimensional (1D) and three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code and multiobjective optimization code were employed to investigate the influence of CBG-diesel dual-fuel combustion performance and exhaust emissions on a diesel engine. In this paper, 1D engine code and multiobjective optimization code were coupled and evaluated about 15000 cases to define the proper boundary conditions. In addition, selected single diesel fuel (dodecane) and dual-fuel (CBG-diesel) combustion modes were modeled to compare the engine performances and exhaust emission characteristics by using CFD code under various operating conditions. In optimization study, start of pilot diesel fuel injection, CBG-diesel flow rate, and engine speed were optimized and selected cases were compared using CFD code. CBG and diesel fuels were defined as leading reactants using user defined code. The results showed that significantly lower NOx emissions were emitted under dual-fuel operation for all cases compared to single-fuel mode at all engine load conditions
A review of regression diagnostics for behavioral research
Influential data points can affect the results of
a regression analysis; for example, the usual summary
statistics and tests of significance may be
misleading. The importance of regression
diagnostics in detecting influential points is
discussed, and five statistics are recommended for
the applied researcher. The suggested diagnostics
were used on a small dataset to detect an influential
data point, and the effects were analyzed.
Colinearity-based diagnostics also are discussed
and illustrated on the same dataset. The nonrobustness
of the least squares estimates in the
presence of influential points is emphasized.
Diagnostics for multiple influential points, multivariate
regression, multicolinearity, nonlinear
regression, and other multivariate procedures also
are discussed. Index terms: Andrew-Pregibon
measure, colinearity, Cook’s distance, covariance
ratio, influential observations, measurement error,
partial residual plot, regression diagnostics.Chatterjee, Sangit; Yilmaz, Mustafa. (1992). A review of regression diagnostics for behavioral research. Retrieved from the University Digital Conservancy, https://hdl.handle.net/11299/115650

Comparison of estimated occupational health and safety costs with actual costs in maintenance and repair projects of public buildings
YILMAZ, Mustafa/0000-0001-9929-910XWOS: 000494129100001PubMed: 31462172Public building stock in Turkey is getting older and more funds are transferred for repairs and maintenance of these public buildings. Parallel to this growth, a significant increase is observed in the number of occupational accidents occurring in the Turkish construction sector. This case study focuses on compulsory investments in small or middle-scale repairs and maintenance projects of public buildings. In the determination of occupational health and safety (OHS) costs which are an integral part of the project costs, a model combining risk-based activity analysis and activity-based cost analysis is utilized and computer software developed as a calculation instrument for this model is used. The ratio of actual and estimated OHS costs to the approximate cost was found to be 3.98 and 3.58%, respectively. Further research should be conducted to test the reliability of this model and its calculation tool in estimating the actual OHS cost before the tender stage
