    PARAGRAPH UTILIZING ON BBC NEWS IN ANALYSING SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE: A MORPHOLOGICAL APPROACH

    The purpose of this study is to investigate the paragraphs utilization on BBC News in analyzing simple present tense by using morphological approach. The object of the research was non-EFL students of  IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. The sample of the research was 32 students. This research implemented a descriptive method, an action research. An action research is a method of testing theories using the real world. To make the students understand the simple present tense therefore the researcher applied a morphological approach to analyze simple present tense.  The steps of the research are first the students are asked to read the paragraph of the BBC News and then find the simple present in which the verbs experienced affixation -s, -es, and -ies . The next step is that the students complete the missing word. Data collection is taken from the students' answers. The students do the activity regularly to know the influence of the treatment.  The resulting score of the post-test showed that the ability of the students in analyzing simple present tense in English News by using BBC News application and using morphological approach was effective. It indicated that all treatments successfully helped the students in analyzing simple present tense.   Based on the score after the implementation of the treatment, the analyzing skill of the students improved. Adding -s, -es, and -ies on the verbs in the simple present in the paragraph of the news on BBC News is a morphological process

    Scrutinizing Individual C-Trans Plus DRTA MethodTo Increase Student’s Reading Comprehension

    The objective of this research is to explain the development Individual C-Trans plus DRTA Method in improving students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade Students of SMP Negeri 40 Bulukumba.The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (CAR)in this research. The researcher had conducted two cycles, where each cycle consisted of two meetings. It employed readingtest as instrumen. A number of subject of the researcher were 31students in XIclass. Those consist of 13 men and 18 women. The findings consisted test, students’ reading comprehension and observation result. The firstcycle of the first meeting was 57,58 and the second meeting was63,54 and then the researcher tried to do next cycle and the result in cycle II that was increasing of students score. In cycle II of the first meeting was 77,90 and the second meeting was 81,61. The conclusion of the research using C-Trans plus DRTA is able to improve the students’ reading comprehension (main idea) at the eighth grade.It was proved by the students’ achievement in cycle II was higher than cycle I and D-Test where in cycle I the students’ mean score reading comprehension becomes first meeting was57,58 and the second meeting was 63,54, cycle II of first meeting was 77,90 and the second meeting was 81,61. Based on the research findings, the implementation Individual C-Trans plus DRTA Method showed the successful in improving reading comprehension

    The Use of Picture-Kwl Technique in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension: A Cooperative Learning Approach

    The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of Picture-KWL technique in improving students’ reading comprehension: a cooperative learning approach could improve the reading comprehension and the interest of the students in reading. The design of this research is quasi experimental which the experimental group would be employed treatment Picture-KWL in cooperative learning approach while the control group would be employed treatment using conventional techniques by the researcher. The findings indicated that the experimental class scored higher on the reading comprehension in post-test than their peers did in the control class. The researcher concluded that the technique was successful in improving the reading comprehension performance and recommended that the technique should be integrated into the English Syllabus specially in teaching reading comprehension. Moreover, based on the students’ respond on questionnaire, it shows that the students’ interest was categorized as interested. And also observation showed that the students’ progress were excellent in the classroom during learning progress

    Transitivity Analysis of The Main Character in Front Desk: Linguistic Portraits of Racial Dynamics in Young Adult Fiction

    This article applies Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to conduct a transitivity study of racial prejudice depiction in Kelly Yang\u27s young adult fiction novel "Front Desk." The study dives into the linguistic representation of racial dynamics utilizing SFL\u27s transitivity paradigm, focusing on the experiences of Mia, the main character of the novel dealing with racial prejudice in the United States. Beginning with a review of relevant literature on racial bias in literary works, the study offers a conceptual framework, stressing dominant groups\u27 property claims. The analysis deconstructs Mia\u27s experiences through material, verbal, relational, mental, and behavioral processes, exposing how linguistic choices generate systemic hurdles and social biases. The findings highlight Mia\u27s frequent physical actions, emotional responses to racial discrimination, and extensive verbal communication, all of which demonstrate the pervasiveness of systemic hurdles in her life. The study contrasts Mia\u27s experiences with characters from other literary works to interpret racial relations. The study examines the language of race in "Front Desk," emphasizing the novel\u27s dual importance in showing immigrant problems and promoting critical observations on racial concerns. The conclusion states that the novel\u27s linguistic portrayals play a critical role in influencing readers\u27 understanding of racial dynamics, emphasizing language\u27s ability not just to reflect but also to question existing conventions

    ANALYZING THE LEVEL OF THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN COMPREHENDING THE NARRATIVE TEXT

      The research aimed at finding out the analyzing of students’ reading comprehension at the second year of SMU Negeri 4 Bulukumba Kab. Bulukumba. The findings of this research that the researcher known the ability of the students’ reading comprehension on level at the second year of SMA Negeri 4 Bulukumba to have “Low” level. Based on the finding indicated that the second year of students’ SMA Negeri 4 Bulukumba in answer or identifying reading comprehension test, there were 60% students got correct answer in ( answer with literal) and 40% students had incorrect answer. Then 40% students had correct answer in (Interpretation) and 60% students had incorrect answer. Then 30% students had correct answer in (Critical) and 70% students had incorrect answer. Then 35% students had correct answer in (Creative) and 65% students had incorrect answer. Based on the finding about the students competence on reading comprehension level, some problems or difficulties were faced by the second grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Bulukumba in analyzing reading test with correct answer which were answer with literal, interpretation, critical and creative. Based on the result of questionnaire of students, the researcher finds out some solution from the problem of the students in reading. The students are suggested to practice reading anything that they like, for example reading a article, reading, essay, reading a book, reading newspaper and reading novel every day.     English for Islamic Philosophy: A Development of Digital Dictionary of English Loanword

    Purpose The aim of this research was to investigate the suitability of loanwords to the needs of students majoring in Islamic philosophy, analyze the design interface of the English loanword dictionary application, and understand how they access and use the dictionary. Method This study made uses of Research & Development design, a research method used to produce a work or product. The first stage is the preliminary research stage, followed by the product development stage, then the model validation stage, the trial effectiveness stage, and finally, the dissemination or publication and product socialization stage. The research engaged the students and the lecturers as the key informant taken randomly from the Islamic philosophy study program. The data were analyzed qualitatively using the concept of friendly android bilingual dictionary. Results/findings The research findings indicated that an English loanword dictionary with comprehensive features was highly beneficial for Islamic philosophy students. This dictionary helped students to understand the terms, and use them in their contexts of Islamic philosophy. The application's user-friendly features enhanced accessibility, with a clear home screen and intuitive navigation. Conclusion The study concluded that the loanword app played significant role in helping students understanding Islamic philosophy terminology. Future research could explore the app's impact on students' academic performance, language proficiency, and critical thinking skills

    Genre_Based SFL Analysis of Academic Writing in English: Investigating Linguistic Features and Genre Conventions in Student's Essay

    This study aims to conduct a genre-based and systemic functional linguistic (SFL) analysis of academic writing in higher education, with a focus on linguistic features and genre conventions in student essays. The research method used in this study is qualitative research. Specifically, the study uses a case study research design, where the focus is on a single limited case (in this case, student essays in academic writing in higher education). The research method involves collecting and analyzing data through a systematic and detailed examination of the linguistic features and genre conventions of student essays focus on how the students build the coherence and cohesion in academic writing. This research uses a genre-based approach to investigate how students use language to achieve communication goals in academic writing. The study utilizes corpus data from student essays to explore patterns and structures of academic discourse in various genres, as well as to identify linguistic features and coherence and cohesion that distinguish each genre and the researcher implemented interview to the students with six question related to the main research. The results of the study indicated that academic writing in higher education was characterized by a number of typical linguistic features in each genre, which were reflect different conventions and expectations in various academic genres. This study contributes to our understanding of how students use language to convey their ideas and arguments in various academic genres, as well as providing insights into the linguistic features and coherence and cohesion of writing that are important for successful academic writing in higher education. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam studi ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Secara khusus, studi menggunakan desain penelitian studi kasus, di mana fokusnya adalah pada satu kasus terbatas (dalam hal ini, esai mahasiswa dalam penulisan akademik di perguruan tinggi). Metode penelitian melibatkan pengumpulan dan analisis data melalui pemeriksaan sistematis dan terperinci dari fitur linguistik dan konvensi genre dari esai mahasiswa yang difokuskan pada bagaimana mahasiswa membangun koherensi dan koherensi dalam penulisan akademik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan berbasis genre untuk menyelidiki bagaimana mahasiswa menggunakan bahasa untuk mencapai tujuan komunikasi dalam penulisan akademik.     Improving Aspect and Compotency of Speaking Skill on EFL Students by Utilizing Zoom App

    The purpose of this study is to investigate how to utilize zoom in improving students’ speaking aspect and speaking competency on EFL students IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. The type of this research was designated as online classroom action research. These actions were carried out in three cycles and each cycle distributed the test to measure the students’ speaking progress each circle. The sample of this research were 25 EFL students. The research method was implemented mix method which was qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data was acquired through to address questionnaires and observation. While quantitative data was acquired through speaking test each cycle. Based on the data obtained the researcher shown the progress of the students in each speaking aspect and speaking competency that proved by the result of speaking test. This research was also supported by the questionnaire that the students expressed their argument using zoom application in speaking online class which the result of this data shown the positive argument approximately the implementation zoom meeting in speaking class. Mostly the students excited implementing the zoom during learning prosses specially in speaking class. The students experienced the improvement of their speaking aspect such as grammar, pronunciation, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary and also the students adept positive progress of speaking competency such as knowledge, action and attitude. The speaking aspect and speaking competency of students is not separated because the implementation of the treatment can improve both and both are supported each other. Therefore, this research found the effectiveness of using zoom as one of the learning application choices to improve students’ speaking aspect and competency. Zoom has many features to supports lecturers and students in speaking class. By zoom the online class is most effective than using other learning application
