Symplectic Applicability of Lagrangian Surfaces
We develop an approach to affine symplectic invariant geometry of Lagrangian surfaces by the method of moving frames. The fundamental invariants of elliptic Lagrangian immersions in affine symplectic four-space are derived together with their integrability equations. The invariant setup is applied to discuss the question of symplectic applicability for elliptic Lagrangian immersions. Explicit examples are considere
Reconstruct to Reinhabit: New Life for an Abandoned and Ruined Medieval Village in Italy
The applied research presented here covers the topic of the reconstruction of architectural Cultural Heritage ruined after a catastrophic event and subsequently abandoned. This is a recurring problem in many Italian territories, inland and coastal, which have seen a progressive depopulation not only as a result of changed economic and social conditions but also—in the more distant past—of earthquake damage. The reconstruction of physical structures thus becomes the ‘picklock’ for tackling a wider problem, such as that of the revitalization and repopulation of minor villages of potential historical and cultural value but currently outside even the local tourism circuits. Taking into account the theoretical and methodological debate within protection and preservation of heritage, on the concepts of identity and authenticity, the research provided an operational contribution to the municipality of a small village on the Ligurian coast, Andora Borgo Castello, to draw up guidelines for the reconstruction of the medieval settlement, as part of a revitalization project financed by the Recovery Plan

The time of the short Twentieth Century. Growth of values and decay of matter,
The article deals with some cultural reflections and new methodologies developed within a European research project focused on the enhancement of the architectural heritage built in the first half of Twentieth Century. On such a heritage, still not historicized, the community as a whole does not express unanimous judgements of value. In the meantimethis particular heritage it is extremely fragile with respect to the passage of time. The time of the «short century» acts in a different way, increasing the value of the architectures (in terms of critical fortune and authorship) but, also, highlighting its fragility and, at times, its ideation and constructive defects. The research aims at defining criteria to identify the most significant architectures and some methodologies of social inclusion for their future valorisation
3D-electrical resistivity tomography monitoring of salt transport in homogeneous and layered soil samples
Monitoring transport of dissolved substances in soil deposits is particularly relevant where safety is concerned, as in the case of geo-environmental barriers. Geophysical methods are very appealing, since they cover a wide domain, localising possible preferential flow paths and providing reliable links between geophysical quantities and hydrological variables. This paper describes a 3D laboratory application of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) used to monitor solute transport processes. Dissolution and transport tests on both homogeneous and heterogeneous samples were conducted in an instrumented oedometer cell. ERT was used to create maps of electrical conductivity of the monitored domain at different time intervals and to estimate concentration variations within the interstitial fluid. Comparisons with finite element simulations of the transport processes were performed to check the consistency of the results. Tests confirmed that the technique can monitor salt transport, infer the hydro-chemical behaviour of heterogeneous geomaterials and evaluate the performances of clay barrier
