Investigation on the Corrosion Inhibition of Eucalyptus Camaldulensis Bark Extract on Mild Steel in Nitric Acid Medium
Abstract: The inhibitory effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis bark extract on the corrosion of mild steel in a nitric acid medium were investigated through weight loss measurement. Eucalyptus camaldulensis, commonly referred to as the river red gum, is a flowering plant species of the Myrtaceae family. The research found that the bark extract had the highest efficiency at a concentration of 0.8g/l and a temperature of 303K, with a 59.34% inhibition rate. The study also showed that the inhibition rate increased with higher concentrations of the inhibitor but decreased with higher temperatures, suggesting that physical adsorption mechanisms were involved.
Keywords: Corrosion inhibitor, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Inhibition efficiency, Mild steel, Nitric acid medium and Weight loss measurement.

Adab Interaksi Guru Dan Murid Dalam Kisah Musa Dan Khidhr (Telaah Terhadap Surat Al-Kahf Ayat 60-82)

The (mis)use of al-Hilah (legal trick) and al-Makhraj (legal exit) in Islamic finance
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the concepts of hilah (legal stratagem or legal trick) and makhraj (legal exit) and to examine their relevance and application in the contemporary Islamic financial services and products.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses the qualitative research approach to provide a theoretical overview of hilah and makhraj literally and technically and to examine their practical applications in Islamic financial products and services. In particular, this paper evaluates several Islamic financial contracts and examines its practices in light of the implications of hilah or makhraj.
Findings
The paper finds that there is a glaring difference in perception and application of hilah and makhraj, as argued by some scholars. It has been found that the principle of hilah has been extensively used in the Islamic finance industry as a way to circumvent the riba prohibition. For example, Islamic financial instruments such as bay’ bithaman al-ajil, bay’ al-‘inah, tawarruq, commodity murabahah, musharakah mutanaqisah and, in some cases, the sale and lease back sukuk are found to be tainted by hilah.
Research limitations/implications
Because this is a theoretical paper, it should be explored in more detail, and critical analysis of Islamic financial services and products should be reviewed in line with these two principles to ascertain if the products and services are in line with Shariah requirements and devoid of hilah practices or not and to align the industry with the maqasid al-Shariah.
Practical implications
This paper identifies a serious challenge that Islamic finance practitioners face in product development in their effort to provide more competitive services to their customers. As a result, it demonstrates the need to proactively use makhraj in innovating Islamic financial products and proffering more sustainable and competitive solutions.
Originality/value
This paper discusses a topic that attempts to dispel the suspicious perceptions of some analysts as to the genuineness of Islamic financial practices
Monitoring urban growth and landscape fragmentation in Kaduna, Nigeria, using remote sensing approach
This study assessed urban growth in Kaduna using remote sensing indices, landscape metrics, and Landsat images (2003, 2013, and 2023). Land use/land cover was carried out using the decision tree algorithm, while the transition matrix was computed using ArcGIS 10.8. Landscape fragmentation was assessed using Fragstat 4.3. The results revealed that between 2003 and 2023, bare land, built-up areas, and water bodies increased by 596 km2, 121.04 km2, and 0.22 km2, respectively, while cultivated land and tree cover decreased by 525.54 km2 and 191.91 km2, respectively. For the rate of change, bare lands, built-up areas, and water bodies increased by 29.81 km2, 6.05 km2, and 0.01 km2 annually, respectively, while cultivated lands and water bodies decreased by 26.28 km2 and 9.60 km2, respectively. For the land-use transition, 112.71 km2 of the built-up areas remained persistent. Cultivated lands, tree cover, and water bodies transitioned to built-up areas, losing 85.43 km2, 13.91 km2, and 0.91 km2, respectively. Landscape fragmentation analysis revealed that the number of patches increased from 405 in 2003 to 614 in 2023. Patch density, largest patch index, total edge, edge density, area-weighted mean shape index, and fractal dimension index decreased between 2003 and 2013 but increased between 2013 and 2023, indicating urban sprawl. However, the area-weighted mean contiguity index consistently increased between 2003 and 2023. The study concluded that urbanization is the leading driver of landscape fragmentation. This study recommends that development should be controlled to reduce encroachment on agricultural lands and habitats, thereby reducing landscape fragmentation and land degradation
