Hardware Software Co-Simulation and Real-Time Video Processing For Edge Detection Using Matlab Simulink Model Blockset

    No full text
FPGA can be useful in many different applications, such as developing more complex systems to be compatible. Using the blocks designed by Xilinx for its System Generator software, a simple algorithm can be designed and tested using Simulink and an FPGA development board, for example edge detection algorithm. Edge detection of image significantly reduces the amount of data and filters out unwanted or insignificant information and gives the significant information in an image. Implementing edge detection is not limited to software development but also hardware development. Edge detection implemented in hardware have emerged as the most viable solution for improving the performance of image processing systems.   This application note will make use of the Spartan-3A DSP development board to explain how to co-simulate Xilinx’s highest level form of an Edgefilter on a still image and implementation sobel edge detection on real-time video based on FPGA board. This document begins by explaining how to convert a still image into a format useable by Matlab and Simulink, shows the construction of a basic algorithm using Xilinx’s System Generator blocks, and also illustrates the procedure of implementing the design real-time video processing using the FPGA development board. The light condition and color contrast will affect the edge detection result. The result of this implementation is detecting edges from the real-time video that has been captured by the camera. The story of “Kutukan Dapur” by Eka Kurniawan presents a colonial setting: Dutch colonialism and postcolonialism in the image of two characters, Diah Ayu and Maharani. Maharani is in patriarchal shackles, which is ingrained in her family life and social structure. Meanwhile, Diah Ayu is in the bonds of Dutch colonialism, which is brought back by the author. Both are in a subaltern position but in different conditions. Based on this description, this research asks two questions which are analyzed using Gayatri Spivak\u27s subaltern theory, (1) what the position of Diah Ayu and Maharani in "Kutukan Dapur" short story, and (2) how the subaltern is constructed through the efforts of the two characters to get out of that position is. The method used is qualitative. The narratives are classified and analyzed to understand the subaltern\u27s position and construction and its resistance efforts. This research indicates that Maharani and Diah Ayu are subalterns of Maharani dominated by patriarchy, while Diah Ayu is dominated by Dutch colonialism. Maharani fought back, but only with an idea or ideas. Unlike Diah Ayu, she is able to fight in a real form. However, as the author, Eka is trapped in a biased construction in addition to gender bias and representation. In subaltern studies, representation is only a tool towards more real domination. The two figures seem to be fighting against the power structure (colonial and patriarchal) but are still trapped in the dominance of the other. The story of “Kutukan Dapur” by Eka Kurniawan presents a colonial setting: Dutch colonialism and postcolonialism in the image of two characters, Diah Ayu and Maharani. The primary data source and the object of the study is the novel Jane Eyre itself, meanwhile the secondary one is any literature related with this study. The data is collected by means of documentation and it analyzed based on An Humanistic Psychological Approach. Based on the analysis, the writer draws the following conclusions. First, the literary creation is a meaningful response of the author toward social reality where the author lives. Second, in Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte proposes her criticism by using the social background of England in nineteenth century. The last, Charlotte Bronte considers that love is not merely involving all the emotions or the passions, but also moral as a society norm. Moral is an essential element in human’s life in the relation with the feeling of love. Human being as a social creature in this life had to apply moral value in facing a good and bad thing, something that must be done or must not be

Exploiting Syntactic Similarities for Preposition Error Corrections on Indonesian Sentences Written by Second Language Learner

    No full text
AbstractWe propose a method to artificially generate training data to correct preposition errors in Indonesian sentences written by second language learners. Basically, we injected large size of native sentences with preposition errors learned from learners’ sentences. Our method copies a preposition error from a learner sentence to a native sentence by firstly calculating a syntactic similarity score between the native sentence and the learners’ sentence. Then, it chooses the preposition error from the learner sentence that has the highest syntactic similarity score to the native sentence, to replace the original preposition in the native sentence.Experimental results show that the preposition error correction model trained on the artificial data resulted from our method outperforms the correction model trained on the similar size of native data

A Simple Visual Ethanol Biosensor Based on Alcohol Oxidase Immobilized onto Polyaniline Film for Halal Verification of Fermented Beverage Samples

    No full text
A simple visual ethanol biosensor based on alcohol oxidase (AOX) immobilised onto polyaniline (PANI) film for halal verification of fermented beverage samples is described. This biosensor responds to ethanol via a colour change from green to blue, due to the enzymatic reaction of ethanol that produces acetaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide, when the latter oxidizes the PANI film. The procedure to obtain this biosensor consists of the immobilization of AOX onto PANI film by adsorption. For the immobilisation, an AOX solution is deposited on the PANI film and left at room temperature until dried (30 min). The biosensor was constructed as a dip stick for visual and simple use. The colour changes of the films have been scanned and analysed using image analysis software (i.e., ImageJ) to study the characteristics of the biosensor’s response toward ethanol. The biosensor has a linear response in an ethanol concentration range of 0.01%–0.8%, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.996. The limit detection of the biosensor was 0.001%, with reproducibility (RSD) of 1.6% and a life time up to seven weeks when stored at 4 °C. The biosensor provides accurate results for ethanol determination in fermented drinks and was in good agreement with the standard method (gas chromatography) results. Thus, the biosensor could be used as a simple visual method for ethanol determination in fermented beverage samples that can be useful for Muslim community for halal verification
