Societies, international relief operations and the experiences gained during the war were the main topics held. Several reports and suggestions prepared by seven sub-committees were presented. The most important feature of the 10th Conference is that it gave a mandate to the National Societies and to the ICRC to assist victims of civil war and internal disturbances. A committee of four people had represented Turkey, and a member of the committee, Besim Omer Akalin had written down notes about the important points and framework of conference, and his expressions and thoughts. This study is aimed to present an important conference in the history of all Red Cross and Red Crescent institutions via the published notes of Besim Omer Akalin
Preparation and Characterization of Activated Carbons from Waste Melamine Coated Chipboard by NaOH Activation
Activated carbons were prepared from the pyrolysis of waste melamine coated chipboard at 600 and 800 degrees C by chemical activation with NaOH. The effects of the carbonization temperature and concentration of chemical reagent on their chemical-surface properties were investigated. The highest surface area was obtained at 600 degrees C with the 50 wt. % concentration of sodium hydroxide. The external surfaces of the activated carbons showed amorphous and heterogeneous structures
Rupture of a giant cardiac hydatid cyst in the left ventricular free wall: successful surgical management of a rare entity
Hydatid cyst of heart is a rare but potentially fatal site of pathology, especially left ventricular free wall. We managed a successful surgical treatment on a case of a 24 year old man who had a giant cardiac hydatid cyst (71 x 64 mm) that ruptured left ventricular free wall. The cyst was excised gently and all the cystic materials were removed, the cyst cavity was closed with GORE-TEX soft tissue patch. The patient was discharged on the 9th postoperative day without symptoms. This case is different from other cardiac hydatid cysts that have been reported in literature previously; because this patient was young and had advanced phase of the disease that presented to our clinic lately. Additionally, the cyst had limited both ventricular volumes significantly
Evaluation of the Performance of Modified Surface Dressing with Environmental Waste in the Context of Aggregate-Bitumen Relationship
Magnetic resonance elastography and inverse problem solution in elasticity
In this work, visualization of mechanical properties of soft tissues using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with mechanical compression is introduced. Then, reconstruction of elasticity distribution by linear perturbation method is explained. Simulation results show that the elasticity distribution of soft tissues can be reconstructed by utilizing the phase images obtained from MRI so that the biomechanical properties of soft tissues can be visualized
Common problems and solutions in the management of resistant gram-negative bacterial infections: Expert opinion on clinical practice
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in gram -negative bacteria is an escalating public health challenge nationally and globally. Since the beginning of the 2000s, antimicrobial resistance surveillance systems involving diverse stakeholders, including human healthcare, animal health, and agriculture, have been established worldwide under the leadership of the World Health Organization, merging local AMR data and enabling the periodic release of reports on the AMR landscape, both regionally and internationally. As a result, crucial components of an antimicrobial stewardship program have been identified, and implementation has been initiated at the national level. However, considering the dynamic nature of AMR, it becomes apparent that existing guidelines and consensus reports, which offer evidence -based, current literature insights and recommendations, may struggle to keep pace with the requirements of everyday clinical practice. As this group of experts decided to prepare a guidance document tailored for Turkish clinicians, aimed at aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of gram -negative bacterial infections with AMR in hospitalized patients, the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) published the "2023 Guidance for the Treatment of AMD-Resistant Gram -Negative Infections" in July 2023. This indicates that the developments in the field of AMR cannot be addressed by the guidelines in a timely manner. As Turkish Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology specialists, we aspire for this article to serve as a valuable resource, offering guidance for healthcare practitioners across various medical disciplines who treat patients afflicted by resistant gram -negative infections
