Victor Hugo, in his play Angelo, tyran de Padue, embroiders three different historical epochs: the first decades of the 19th century, contemporary with him; the middle of the 16th century, chosen for the unfolding of the dramatic action; and the late Middle Ages evoked by the main characters in the story. However, the historical and purely romantic interest in the medieval period takes on primary importance in this work. Of the many northern Italian lineages named by the author in the work, one in particular seems to be truly symbolic. It was particularly interesting to understand how the history of the da Romano family forms the core of the dramaturgical construction. Ezzelino III and Cunizza da Romano are elevated to emblems of romantic poetics and become functional to the author's political and social message

    Checking interval properties of computations

Model checking is a powerful method widely explored in formal verification. Given a model of a system, e.g., a Kripke structure, and a formula specifying its expected behaviour, one can verify whether the system meets the behaviour by checking the formula against the model. Classically, system behaviour is expressed by a formula of a temporal logic, such as LTL and the like. These logics are “point-wise” interpreted, as they describe how the system evolves state-by-state. However, there are relevant properties, such as those constraining the temporal relations between pairs of temporally extended events or involving temporal aggregations, which are inherently “interval-based”, and thus asking for an interval temporal logic. In this paper, we give a formalization of the model checking problem in an interval logic setting. First, we provide an interpretation of formulas of Halpern and Shoham’s interval temporal logic HS over finite Kripke structures, which allows one to check interval properties of computations. Then, we prove that the model checking problem for HS against finite Kripke structures is decidable by a suitable small model theorem, and we provide a lower bound to its computational complexity

Incentive Compatibility In Consensus Protocols And DAOs: A Game-Theoretic Approach

This study aims to explore blockchain technologies by integrating the economic perspective and the computer science approach, with a special focus to economic applications where non-cryptocurrency blockchain are usually adopted. This interdisciplinary approach may help to create blockchain solutions that are both technically robust and economically sustainable. For non-cryptocurrency permissioned blockchains to be widely adopted in various business and organizational applications, it is important to view nodes as economic agents rather than abstract entities. These agents exhibit behaviour driven by their individual interests. Therefore, the consensus protocol must be designed to consider effective incentive compatibility constraints. The theoretical approach is based on the evaluation of incentive compatibility constraints for both honest and faulty nodes, according two different remuneration schemes. By extending the principles of incentive compatibility from non cryptocurrency blockchains to organizational structures modelled as DAOs, we explore how decentralized governance models can benefit from blockchain-based incentive mechanisms while addressing the inherent economic risks and legal challenges

- The contribution of Angelo Volpe essentially examines two objects: first, the unquestioned potentiality in contemporary sociology of individualistic and rational approaches, and, second, the need to transcend the very cage of rationality and go further. What the author hopes is the realization of a "full-spectrum model" for the analysis of social events, a model that can expand the scope of sociological understanding beyond what we can see and measure rationally
