Pedro Afonso
No full textPedro Afonso is a Jewish rabbi from Huesca (Aragon) who lived between the middle of the 11th century (c. 1062) and the first half of the 12th century (c. 1140). He choose to convert to Christianity and it seems that he was baptized by the king of Aragon, Afonso the Batalhador, from whom he received the name, in addition to the first name of Peter, the saint of the day. Author of a wide-ranging work and polemicist who radically changed the terms of the debate between Judaism and Christianity in the 12th century. Firstly, it revealed the role of Jewish oral law, the so-called Talmud, which in its view distanced the Jews from the revelation common to both religions, which would be the authority (auctoritas) and which was the basis of the controversy until then; secondly, in his own way, he brought allegedly scientific and rationalist contributions based on philosophy and the sciences of the time (ratio) to the controversy; and in a third contribution he reflected on the effective legality of the Jewish presence in the domains of Christianity, which was based on the terms of tolerance proclaimed by Augustine of Hippo who envisioned in the near future a role of the Jews in Christian eschatology, as they would be converted at the end of time , in the Millennium. Thus he placed contemporary Jews as a kind of heretics, who distanced themselves from revelation. Pedro Afonso is a milestone in the worsening of the Jewish condition in the medieval West.Pedro Afonso é um rabino judeu de Huesca (Aragão) que viveu entre meados do século XI (c. 1062) e a primeira metade do século XII (c. 1140). Optou por se converter ao Cristianismo e ao que tudo indica foi batizado pelo rei de Aragão, Afonso o Batalhador, de quem recebeu o nome, além do prenome de Pedro, o santo do dia. Autor de ampla obra e polemista que alterou radicalmente os termos do debate entre o Judaísmo e o Cristianismo, no século XII. Em primeiro lugar revelou o papel da lei oral judaica, o assim denominado Talmude, que a seu ver distanciava os judeus da revelação comum ás duas religiões, que seria a autoridade (auctoritas) e que era a base da polêmica até então; em segundo lugar, à sua maneira, trouxe aportes pretensamente científicos e racionalistas embasados na filosofia e nas ciências da época (ratio) para a polêmica; e num terceiro aporte refletia sobre a efetiva legalidade da presença judaica nos domínios da Cristandade, que se baseava nos termos da tolerância apregoada por Agostinho de Hipona que vislumbrava num futuro próximo uma função dos judeus na escatologia cristã, pois estes se converteriam no final dos tempos, no Milênio. has as main objective to identify and analyze space and people s imaginary of four short
stories by Afonso Arinos: Assombramento , Feiticeira , Mão pelada , and A garupa .
The thesis was methodologically divided into introduction, development, conclusion, and
references. The development is divided into seven chapters: the first chapter tells about the
intellectual life of Afonso Arinos; the second presents the author s work; the third contains
a reflection on the short story theory; the fourth refers to the critical fortune of Afonso
Arinos; the fifth presents Brazilian regionalisms; the sixth approaches the theories of space
and people s imaginary and the seventh presents the analyzes and interpretations of the
selected short stories. Among the authors chosen for the theoretical foundation there are
Gaston Bachelard, Julio Cortaz, Ricardo Piglia, Edgar Alan Poe, Anton Tchekhov, Laura
de Mello e Souza, Jean Delumeau, Osman Lins, Luís da Câmara Cascudo, Tristão de
Ataíde, Alfredo Bosi, Afrânio Coutinho, and Gilberto Freyre. The research makes possible
to analyze not only the presence of the regional environment of Minas Gerais and people s
imaginary, but also the importance of Afonso Arinos as a pre-modernist regionalist writer

Effective and anomalous diffusion of inertial particles in flowing fluids
No full textWe perform an analytical study of the inertial-particle dynamics in the limit of small but finite inertia, in incompressible flows, exploring their diffusion process. By means of a multiscale expansion, we analyse the particle effective diffusivity, and in particular its dependence on relative inertia, Brownian diffusivity, gravity, and particle-to-fluid density ratio (i.e. added mass). We obtain forced advection-diffusion equations for auxiliary quantities in the physical space, thus simplifying the problem from the full phase space to a system which can easily be solved numerically. In the case of parallel flows with power-law velocity spectra, we identify some cases of anomalous diffusion, according to the values of the exponents connected to the possible presence of long-range spatio-temporal correlations

La découverte des manuscrits antérieurs au texte imprimé, permet d’étudier le processus de rédaction d’une œuvre selon toute évidence amplement lue dans le périmètre insulaire.In 1854, the translation of the Eneida by Virgil was published in Las Palmas de Gran Canarias (Canary Islands). Its author, Graciliano Afonso Naranjo (1775-1861), left a wide literary production, but also many translations of classic authors Latin as Greek. The discovery of manuscripts anterior to the printed text of this translation makes it possible to study the process of draft in a work that was certainly widely read in the insular area.En 1854 apareció publicada en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Islas Canarias) la traducción de la Eneida de Virgilio. percorreu a pé os 739 quilómetros da EN2, a maior de Portugal. Colocando em
evidência as suas circunstâncias, itinerário e paisagens físicas e humanas
observadas, são também salientados os elementos convencionais e/ou
inovadores que permitem integrar a narrativa na tradição da literatura de
viagens. São, por outro lado, acentuadas as inovações estruturais introduzidas
no género do travelogue pelas tecnologias digitais e pelas redes sociais, de que
o livro de Afonso Reis Cabral dá inequívoco testemunho.This dissertation aims to carry out an analysis of the connection between writing
and travel as illustrated by the walking journal, Leva-me contigo: Portugal a pé
pela Estrada Nacional 2, by Afonso Reis Cabral, a volume collecting the texts
the author posted on Facebook during the journey he made on foot along the
739 kilometers of the National Road 2, the longest in Portugal. Focusing on its
circumstances, itinerary, and geographical and human landscapes, we have also
highlighted the conventional and innovative elements of Cabral's narrative and
its indebtedness to travel literature tradition. In addition, the structural innovations
brought into the travelogue genre by digital technologies and social media,
