“Literature and academia in the former Yugoslavia are obsessed with identity issues and cultural relativism”: An Interview with Bosnian Author Nihad Hasanović
Author Nihad Hasanovic. Bild: Adnan Hasanovic In autumn 2018, the Bosnian author Nihad Hasanović read from his novel “The Basement Man“ (Čovjek iz podruma, 2013) in Regensburg. Hasanović is a non-conformist author from the former Yugoslavia who in 2017 has received the Skender Kulenović Award for his latest novel Laki pogon [Light Engine] (2016). His characters are rooted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but their stories are stretching through the US, France, and Mexico. The students Denise Trz..
Financial Accounting
If authorship matters (and we believe it is everything) then this book is destined to be a classic. There are no two better authors than these. Joe Ben Hoyle is co-author of two current market-leading advanced accounting textbooks with McGraw-Hill. He and and co-author CJ Skender are nationally recognized as master teachers. Both have won numerous teaching awards, and both were recently recognized by BusinessWeek as top undergraduate professors. The authors bring their collective teaching wisdom to bear in this book not by changing "the message"(financial accounting content), but by changing "the messenger" (the way the content is presented). The approach centers around utilizing the Socratic method, or simply put, asking and answering questions. The reason that this approach continues to be glorified after thousands of years is simple - it engages students and stresses understanding over memorization. So this text covers standard topics in a standard sequence, but does so through asking a carefully constructed series of questions along with their individual answers. This approach has a number of unique pedagogical advantages: 1—It breaks topics down into smaller component pieces. Each question and its answer look at a specific piece of material. The student only has to deal with that one question and its answer at a time. Material is presented as a clearly established series of steps rather than as a long flowing monologue. 2—The format allows for a conversational style. Virtually all experts agree that individuals learn better through give and take than they do through one-directional lectures. The questions and answers make the entire book feel like a conversation. 3- Logical sequencing is a key ingredient to successful learning. Because students are being exposed to each new topic for the first time, they often have trouble making leaps of understanding that appear easy to a teacher (or a textbook author). The question and answer format provides an orderly method for creating an appropriate sequencing of material. Question 2 should be the logical follow up for Question 1, and so on. Students are led through each topic in the most understandable fashion. 4—A key to successful teaching is to puzzle the students, and then help them solve the puzzle.. ”Why did this technique work?“ ”Why is the calculation performed this way?“ ”Who really cares about this?“ A question and answer format leads to this type of educational presentation. A final distinction of this text is its simplicity. In today’s texts, each page is an eclectic assortment of educational aids: glossary, learning objectives, newspaper articles, etc. Students who only read one word and one sentence at a time are often confused by such a random arrangement. In this book, the presentation of question and answer is clean and uncluttered. Then, at the end of each question and answer, there are links for students who wish to explore further (for example, a link to 1-5 multiple-choice questions with clearly explained answers to immediately reinforce their reading)
The Issue of Perspective and Gaze in Dalibor Martinis’ Video Installation The View to Another View
Dalibor Martinis’ video installation The View to Another View is examined from the position of the theory of the gaze and through disciplining the gaze with perspective, as well as through the disorientation of the observer by making him aware of the numerous different gazes. By taking into account Lacan’s psychological theory of the gaze and Merleau-Ponty’s philosophical theory of perception and the experience of space, the relationship between the eye, gaze and sight, as well as the ways in which a perspective creates a conflict between those elements, is examined. The perspectives are analyzed in the context of relativist theories which criticize the ideas of an innocent eye, and approach seeing and observing as semantically complex and socially determined actions. By leading the observer through three views which are defined spatially and historically, the author unveils the role of different contexts in understanding the masterpiece in the present
The Excretion of Ca, Mg, Zn and Cu Through Excreta of Laying Hens Fed Two Different Levels of Protein with and without Phytase
An 8-week experiment was conducted to study the effect of added Natuphos® 5000 phytase in corn–soybean meal-based diets on laying hens fed different levels of crude protein (CP) (14 and 17%). Two levels of phytase enzyme were used: 0 and 600 Phytase Units (FTU)/kg feed. The experiment used 144 Hisex Brown laying hens in a 2 × 2 factorial design. Four treatments and three replicates per treatment with 12 hens per replicate were used. Egg production was recorded daily while egg weight was assessed on 13th and 14th day of each two-week period to calculate total egg mass. Total excreta were collected and approximately 10% of the amount was used for analysis after drying in a forced draft oven. The results showed no significant effect of added phytase on excreta Calcium (Ca) content, but significantly lower Magnesium (Mg) content was observed with phytase (3.54, 2.48, 3.13 and 2.75 % for hens fed 14% CP no phytase, 14% CP + phytase, 17% CP no phytase, and 17% CP + phytase, respectively). Added phytase also significantly decreased Mg excretion measured as grams/kg of egg mass (21.43, 12.47, 16.76 and 14.75 g/kg egg mass for hens of respective dietary treatments. Phytase had a strong effect on Zink (Zn) levels with 438.96, 369.17, 434.38 and 374.58 mg Zn/kg dry excreta of hens. Similar results were observed with Cu. Added phytase significantly reduced the excreta content and the excretion of Cu. The results of this experiment indicate that adding 600 FTU to laying hen diets containing 14% CP decreases the excretion of Mg, Zn and Cu without any adverse effects on the egg mass produced of laying hens
Nonce Words in German – Word-Building and Translatability in Croatian
The aim of this paper is to tackle the concept of nonce words based on the research of Croatian and German linguists, considering the variety of approaches to nonce words in contemporary scholarship. Nonce words are frequently studied only within the domain of neologisms, which undervalues their importance as a significant subcategory of lexical innovations. This paper places emphasis on the word-building processes in the creation of nonce words and the options for translating them. We present the results of the analysis of around a hundred German nonce words with regard to their word-building patterns and their translation into Croatian. In the analysis we consider nonce words to be culturespecific units which are on the one hand necessarily related to a language community at a certain point in time and on the other to the innovativeness of their author and the context in which they appear
Modern medium-speed marine engines
Propise u svezi primjene i korištenja srednjookretnog brodskog motora treba nadopunjavati slobodno potrebama u praksi. Inicijativna zakonodavstva u globalnom i lokalnom smislu radi testiranja brodskih misija na svjetskim morima moraju još više potaći istraživanja glede razvoja modela i načina primjene i korištenja srednjeokretnog brodskog motora. Poslije uvodnih razmatranja i impostacije teme navodi se definicija i osnovna obilježja motora s unutrašnjim sagorijevanjem, a zatim autor iznosi najnovija dostignuća vezana za razvoj i primjenu srednjookretnih brodskih motora. Impossibility and Memory - Imaninary Tombstone
The graduate thesis titled "Impossibility and Memory" is a monumental sculpture performed as a tombstone, consisting of a wooden model and a conceptual solution in marble. The model consists of seven wooden black and white panels, while the conceptual design would include an enlarged model of seven marble black and white panels. The artwork presents an idea of transforming the object from non-artistic to an artistic context, but also the author's own transformation through the process of making artwork, from the beginning of the idea to the last stage of realization. The main elements of the work are also parts of the structure of the concept consisting of stages of transformation, starting with terms such as death and cemetery, tombstone and monument sculpture, and finally transformation. The name of the work itself is subordinate to the idea that runs through the work as a vertical between the initial awareness of the inability to act, to the final aspiration aimed at memory as a statement of tribute and thanks. With this relationship, the work acquires a vertical dimension that is prolonged throughout life, and lasts behind death. The monumental sculpture, in the form of a tombstone, seeks to encourage reflection on transformation. Through the work "Impossibility and Memory", the author faces the same, through her own struggle and fear and through the process of making work from idea to final performance. The artwork points to the flexibility and expansibility of the concept of transformation in order to encourage observers to think about it, in the context of the idea of work and beyond. With her master's thesis, the author opens the space for reflection on transformation, the tombstone and finally whether it can be turned into a work of art
Influence of management and physiological factors on somatic cell count in raw cow milk in Kosova
Sveukupni rezultati pokazuju da su veličina stada (PThe main aim of this research was to study the effect of somatic cell count (SCC/mL) in raw milk in some cattle dairy farms according to the existing standards for raw milk quality in Kosovo. VISUAL CULTURE AS A NEW PARADIGM OF TEACHING VISUAL ART
The necessity change of Visual Arts' teaching paradigm arises for several reasons; the new social conditions where the culture of the picture has prevailed; the artistic practice has changed and relied on procedures and aesthetics of popular culture; today the need for visual literacy developing is interpreted as a cultural and critical skill. The emergence of a new social paradigm, called visual culture, has been stimulated by the communication of image culture, where the identity formation and the transmission of social patterns are transferred by the image. Visual literacy is considered as one of the elementary literacy, so in these conditions, it must have its place in the curriculum. Although visual culture is an interdisciplinary field, in the world's curriculum practice is usually integrated into visual art education. Such a model will be considered in this doctoral thesis. The research is focused on the theoretical foundations of the paradigm shift, determination of the current situation, and future projections by using future methods (Trend analysis, Delphi method, Backcasting). Four hypotheses, that have been set in the research, are confirmed in theory as well as in experts' opinions collected by the Delphi method. Experts from different fields reached a consensus about 11 conclusions. They have agreed that visual culture is important for students' emotional and cognitive development so it should be integrated into visual art education. They stressed the need for interpretive approaches and teaching content change. There are divided opinions on the name of the subject because one expert, specialized in the field of elementary art education, has remained on the opinion that the subject should be renamed into Visual Culture, while the others have agreed about the name of Visual Arts and Visual Culture which is the most acceptable solution within the existing educational system for the author of the doctoral dissertation
