Application of Dynamic Model for Designing Zero Runoff System to Control Erosion in Cocoa Fields
Land degradation in cocoa plantations is mainly caused by surface runoff erosion. Surface runoff can be reduced by applying a Zero Runoff (ZRO) system. This system effectively reduces runoff when its size sufficiently infiltrates all surface runoff. This study aims to determine the size, dimensions, and location of a ZRO system that effectively increases infiltration and prevents surface runoff. The size and dimensions of the system were designed using a water balance approach, where all surface runoff is collected in the ZRO system and then infiltrated. Surface runoff was calculated using the Soil Conservation Services (SCS) method. The potential infiltration rate is a function of the soil's saturated hydraulic conductivity and the system's surface area. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil was determined using the falling head method. The size and dimensions of the system were determined through model simulation based on field physical condition data using a dynamic model. The research results showed that the size and dimensions of the system depend on the amount of rainfall, the area of the catchment area, and the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil. From the dynamic model simulation, all surface runoff will be infiltrated if the dimensions of the zero runoff system are 1 x 1 x 0.5 m. This size can accommodate a water volume between 0 – 0,006 m3, so with a system depth of 1,000 mm, there is no surface runoff
Performance Evaluation of a No-Husk Corn Sheller: A Case Study at Benteng Tellue Workshop
The post-harvest handling of corn involves threshing, the process of separating kernels from the cob. A corn shelling machine without husking offers advantages for both sellers and buyers by allowing manual sorting of good and damaged kernels before threshing. This study evaluates the performance of a no-husk corn sheller used in the Amali District, Bone Regency. Key parameters analyzed include fuel consumption, shelling capacity, percentage of damaged kernels, and cleanliness level at three different rotational speeds (500, 600, and 700 rpm). The results indicate that increasing the rotational speed leads to higher fuel consumption and improved shelling capacity. However, the percentage of damaged kernels decreases with higher speeds, achieving an average damage rate of 0.049%. Additionally, the cleanliness level of the shelled corn reaches an average of 98%, confirming the machine’s efficiency. These findings suggest that optimizing the rotational speed enhances both productivity and output quality, making the no-husk corn sheller a viable tool for post-harvest processing
Application of Fuzzy Control and IoT Monitoring on Small Scale Biofermentor for Making Virgin Coconut Oil
Virgin Coconut Oil is a pure coconut oil that can be obtained from the extract of fresh and old coconut meat. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a biofermentor integrated with a fuzzy logic control system and IoT for VCO production. The research involved designing control rules to regulate temperature, testing the IoT system for real-time monitoring, and assessing the biofermentor's performance. The parameters observed were control system response, temperature, yield and moisture content. Results showed that the fuzzy control system effectively maintained temperature stability, resulting in a higher yield (39.65%) and lower moisture content (0.08%) compared to conventional methods. In addition, the fuzzy control rules are able to regulate the power so that the temperature overshoot is quite small (1%), the settling time is relatively short (9 minutes), the temperature is stable, and the steady state error is 1.02% (with in tolerance limits)
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
On-Off Water Level Control and IoT Monitoring for Aquaponics Systems
Aquaponic system is a cultivation method that combines fish and plant farming or aquaculture and hydroponics that are mutually beneficial (symbiotic mutualism) at one time. Aquaponic water level control to maintain water volume is still done using conventional methods. Therefore, this research aims to produce a good control system to control aquaponic water levels equipped with an on/off control system and can monitor water levels remotely. This research method includes designing a control system for water level, functional test and performance test of the control system to aquaponics as well as data loss test and network delay to Thinger.io platform. The parameter observed was the water level. The results showed that the on/off control system was able to regulate the water level with no overshoot, the settling time reached for a height of 20 cm was 9 minutes, a height of 25 cm for 22 minutes and for a height of 30 cm for 34 minutes and the steady state error that occurred was still within the tolerance limit. The IoT system using the Thinger.io platform implemented is able to send data and store data during the testing process, and the Thinger.io platform can monitor water levels remotely and provide data in excel format. The test results of lost data with an average of 1.81% and delay testing with an average of 0.88%, based on data mapped every 6 hours, the largest percentage of lost data and delay occurs at 00.00 -06.00 GMT +8
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
