Monetary thought of the sixteenth century muslim scholars

    No full text
Muslim scholars of the sixteenth century continued the tradition of writing on economic issues. Their work, however is characterized by the period's overall feature of imitation and repetition and thus reflects hardly any advancement of monetary thought since the works of earlier Muslim scholars. This is clearly reflected in the two representative treatises on money: those of al-Suyuti (d. 1506) written at the beginning of the century, and al-Tumurtashi (d. 1598), written at its the end. History of Islamic economic thought is a well-researched area of Islamic Economics. To the best of our knowledge, however, all such research stopped at the end of the fifteenth century – the age of Ibn Khaldun and al-Maqrizi. The present paper seeks to advance this research and intends to investigate monetary thought of Muslim scholars during the sixteenth century (corresponding to tenth century Hijrah, exactly from 906 AH to 1009 AH). Beginning with an overview of earlier monetary thought in Islam to provide background information, then it goes on to note that particular century's monetary problems in order to provide a perspective for the discussion of monetary thought among Muslim scholars. For the purpose of comparison, European monetary thought of the same period is also analyzed.Monetary thought; Quantity theory of money;Sixteenth century Monetary Thought; al-Suyuti; al-Tumurtashi.

Educational multimedia adaptation for power-saving in mobile learning

Limited-battery power is a major constraint in mobile learning. It is important to adopt battery power-saving mechanisms in mobile learning applications in order to extend the duration of learning activities. This thesis explores issues related to power-saving in mobile learning. Streaming of online educational multimedia on mobile devices is a power hungry activity due to large amount of wireless data transfer. A number of power-saving multimedia adaptation techniques for streaming multimedia have been developed in the past. Most of these existing approaches achieve power-saving by uniformly lowering the presentation quality of an entire multimedia stream. These generic techniques will typically lower the visual quality of an entire multimedia stream uniformly, without considering its impact on perceived loss of visual information at different points of the multimedia stream. In this thesis, through a user study we suggest that reducing the quality of educational multimedia beyond a certain level - for power-saving adaptation - can cause perceived loss of visual information in quality-sensitive portions of a multimedia. This could have a negative impact on perceived learning effects and leave the resource unsuitable for learning. The results of the study suggest that different parts of a learning multimedia may have different lowest acceptable presentation quality requirements for avoiding perceived loss of visual information. The participants of the study were able to comprehend visual information in one fragment at a lower visual quality but could not comprehend visual information of some other fragments at the same quality level. To address this problem, we proposed a Content-Aware Power Saving Educational Multimedia Adaptation (CAPS-EMA) approach that suggests a way of delivering each portion of a multimedia in a lowest acceptable quality based on the visual contents of each fragment. We demonstrate an implementation of this approach using a prototype system called MoBELearn. The results of our evaluation studies suggest that the way CAPS-EMA adapts multimedia resources is acceptable to users in power-saving situations. CAPS-EMA requires some authoring processes in order to identify fragments and lowest acceptable quality constraints. An expert evaluation described the activities involved in the authoring process as easy to understand and performPower-saving multimedia adaptation mostly results in some compromises in terms of visual quality and information content. Existing techniques offer users little control over the adaptation process and they are obliged to accept the consequences of the adaptation. We propose a Learner Battery Interaction (LBI) mechanism that suggests offering users power-saving options and relevant feedback about the expected compromises for each power-saving option. This would enable users to make informed choices about power-saving. We evaluated the concept of LBI through a user study. The results of the study suggest a positive perceived usefulness of the system and that mobile learning applications may benefit from the idea.In the end, we propose a search mechanism for online adaptive learning resources that would help find a personalised learning resource that would fulfil the information needs of a learner in a battery-efficient way. This proposed mechanism is based on the concept of discovery of online open adaptive learning resources. For this purpose, we proposed an ontology model to describe adaptive learning resources, in terms of its adaptive features: learning and presentation features. This model could be used as a basis for implementing the proposed concept of the discovery of versions of adaptive learning resources in order to enable learners to engage in learning activities in a battery-efficient way by searching for online learning resources

LANGUAGE SITUATION IN THE JALAL-ABAD REGION

The article is devoted to the study of the language situation in Kyrgyzstan, in particular in the Jalal-Abad region. A language situation is understood as a set of forms of existence (as well as styles) of one language or a set of languages in their territorial-social relationships and functional interactions within the boundaries of certain geographic regions or administrative-political entities. Until now, the peculiarities of the language situation in Kyrgyzstan have been studied by scientists, but the issue of regional peculiarities of the language situation has not been touched upon. The author tried to determine the national diversity of the region and, accordingly, their languages. The relevance of the study of the issue is this. The radical change in the socio-economic situation and the entry into the global educational space changes the language situation of the region. In the region, the Kyrgyz language serves as the state language - the language of documentation and communication. Russian is used as a language of interethnic communication. But at the same time, attention is paid to the study of other languages, which are considered business languages of the UN. During the era of stagnation, interest in the Russian language weakened. The weakening of interest in the Russian language is caused, according to the author, by the migration of Russian speakers, because the language develops precisely where it is used. But now the Russian language in the region has received a second boost, interest in it is growing, it is used along with the state language. Each nation living in the region has its own unique language, culture and traditions

The Qur’an, ‘the respectable’ is the most preferred and safest of all the revealed scriptures. Generally the entire Qur’an is the source of guidance but it has been categorized according to the discussed subjects. One among the categories is ‘Ahkaam’. In the verses of Ahkaam various laws and commands have been described for the guidance and ease of human beings. These verses have been interpreted and explained in different periods after Prophet-hood. From among those scholars who have stayed on the interpretation of Ahkaam only, Ibn Ul Arabi, Qurtubi, Jassas, and Lakiya al Harasi are popular. These scholars have offered their services in Arabic language but in the recent past, in the subcontinent, work on it has been taken up in Urdu as well. Mulana Jalal ud Din Qadri’s ‘Ahkaam ul Qur’an’ is a very important scholarly achievement. Which style and manner Mulana Jalal ud Din Qadri has adopted in Ahkaam ul Qur’an? Has he adopted the method of earlier interpreters in the interpretation of the verses of Ahkaam? Or has he adopted a new method? In order to answer these questions the following treatise has been arranged. In this treatise, the definition, ordainment, books, number of verses of Ahkaam and Qadri’s manhaj (methodology in finding truth) in Ahkaam ul Qur’an has been mentioned
