Abstract: Despite the existence of plenteous investment opportunities in various sectors such as mining, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, services, construction, and telecommunication, moreover the unprecedented attention of the international community, large-scale financial assistance in the last two decades, the strong support and significant reforms initiated by the government to facilitate a better environment for doing business; unfortunately, Afghanistan remains one of the most unattractive poor economies in the world. Four decades of conflicts, the deterrent security situation, and the political instability significantly caused backwardness and poverty and negatively impacted the overall economic growth in the country. Therefore, this study investigates the negative impacts of insecurity and instability on the inflow of foreign direct investments (FDI) and business activities in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, it explores the role of FDI and business activities in stimulating economic growth, improving security conditions, and assuring peace and stability in the country. The research employed a survey questionnaire to collect the primary data from the Afghan business community who have been directly and indirectly affected by the consequences of insecurity and instability. At the same time, the literature of other studies was comprehensively reviewed to discuss the research topic and collect the secondary data. A mixture of qualitative and quantitative approaches was adopted to analyze and describe the research findings. Keywords: Afghan Economy, Business Activities, Economic Growth, FDI, Insecurity and FDI, Instability. Modern Trends in Western Criticism: مغربی تنقید کے جدید رجحانات

    No full text
Westren New Criticism was a formalist movement in literary theory. New criticism developed as a reaction to the older philological and literary history that dominated literary criticism in the middle decades of the 20th century, which focused on the history and meaning of individual words and their relation to foreign and ancient languages, comparative sources, and the biographical circumstances of the others.  The new critics felt that this approach tended to distract from the text and meaning of a poem and entirely neglect its aesthetic qualities in favor of teaching about external factors. New criticism believed the structure and meaning of the text were intimately connected and should not be analyzed separately. In order to bring the focus of literary studies back to analysis of the texts. The new critics also looked for paradox, paradox, ambiguity, irony, and tension to help establish the single best and most unified interpretation of the text. This case study is about Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., one of the famous technological companies nowadays that produces smartphones, televisions, refrigerators, and more. The products that this company has made are known worldwide because of the reputations and brand name. From this study, we can learn to analyze, apply the knowledge, reasoning, and concluding to understand this company. The first part of this case study focuses on collecting the company information such as the company's background, the problem statement and the purpose of the study. Through the analysis, some problems could be identified in the company. These problems were studied, and some solutions and improvement were proposed to achieve a better-quality product that customers know from all around the globe. The second part of the case study focuses on its’ background, organizational structure, products and services, technology, business, marketing, and operational strategy. For the third part, we only use SWOT, the short form for strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of this company's product or services and understand how the company works. The fourth part is for me to find the findings and discussion for this report of a case study about Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. And for the last one is for the recommendation and improvement section

Effects of cadmium on killifish from mangrove area Sandspit at Karachi coast

To determine the effect of cadmium on killifish collected from sandspit Karachi Coast. In the experiment the different doses used i.e. 2.5, 5, 10 and 20ppm show a gradual increase in percent mortality with increase in the dose. These percent mortalities were statistically analysed which indicate that mortality rises with increase in concentration of solution, Cd compound. The result were analysed with probit analysis and probit mortality. The LD50 of Cd was found to be 16.3ppm at 72 hours post treatment where as LT50 cd was found to be 94.1 hours at 10ppm dose respectively

Understanding tantalum-catalyzed ethylene trimerization: When things go wrong

Ethylene oligomerization to linear low-molecular-mass α-olefins is an open industrial challenge. Ta-based catalysts are promising systems, but the unclear understanding of their behavior prevents systematic advances in the field. We demonstrate here that a well-defined (î -SiO)3Ta III species is able to promote ethylene oligo-/polymerization without any cocatalyst, confirming that the active species in Ta systems corresponds to a TaIII species. DFT calculations on a series of Ta systems ranging from ethylene trimerization to ethylene polymerization catalysts highlight the key factors controlling their experimental behavior. Comparison of these Ta systems allows one to set general rules for the rational development of new ethylene Ta oligomerization catalysts. © 2013 American Chemical Society. We thank SABIC for the generous endowment (to J.M.B.) and for research support (to Y.C.) and the OCRF for the generous support of our studies (E.C.). UHMW Ziegler–Natta polyethylene: Synthesis, crystallization, and melt behavior

    No full text
The fabrication of normal and UHMW PE end-products involves melting and crystallization of the polymer. Therefore, the melt behavior and crystallization of as-synthesized UHMW PE, and NMW PE and E-1-hexene copolymer have been studied using a new nonisothermal crystallization model, Flory's equilibrium theory and ethylene sequence length distribution concept (SLD), Gibbs–Thompson equation, and DSC experiments. By using this approach, the effects of MW, 1-hexene incorporation, ethylene SLD, the level of undercooling θ, and crystal surface free energy D on crystallite stability, relative crystallinity α, instantaneous crystallinity χ, the crystallization kinetic triplet, crystallization entropy, and lamellar thickness distribution (LTD) have been evaluated. Consequently, this study reports insightful new results, interpretations, and explanations regarding the melting and crystallization of the aforementioned polymers. The UHMW PE results significantly differ from the NMW PE and E-1-hexene copolymer ones. Ethylene sequences shorter than the so called minimum crystallizable ethylene sequence length, irrespective of E-1-hexene copolymer MW, can also crystallize. Additionally, the polymer preparation shows that the catalyst coordination environment and symmetry, as well as achiral ethylene versus prochiral α-olefin steric encumbrance and competitive diffusion affect the synthesis of UHMW PE, particularly the corresponding UHMW copolymers. The authors greatly acknowledge the financial support provided for this study by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) via the Science & Technology Unit at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) through Project Number 14-PET-283-04 as part of the National Science and Technology Innovation Plan (MAARIFAH).
