Antecedents of online product recommendation continuous usage intention / Muhammad Ashraf

Immense product choices, the complexity, and enormous amount of information available on business to consumer (B2C) e-commerce site challenge customers’ limited information processing capabilities, and identifying a product which fits their need is not an easy job. There is also consumers’ dilemma of wanting to have more information on the one hand and being overloaded with too much information on the other hand. Therefore, to help consumers deal with this dilemma, e-retailers are increasingly equipping their e-commerce sites with distinct product recommender systems to provide highly personalized product recommendations, and assistance in searching, comparing, and evaluating product information. The online product recommendation (OPR) also consisting of past consumer recommendations in the form of product ratings and reviews, which pursued the customers to buy recommended products. It subsequently can be resulted in higher consumer spending and improved retention rate. However, drawing benefits out of these advantages depends on whether and to what extent consumers embrace and fully utilise OPR. The current percentage of Amazon sales based on OPR usage indicated that a large proportion of online consumers are not using OPR for their online buying decision given the fact that they have not yet developed trust in OPR. Nevertheless, no matter how useful OPR is, a critical issue is whether consumers accept and continue OPR use. This is an important yet neglected issue in existing OPR research. Therefore, the current study develops an integrated research model to investigate salient determinants of OPR continuous usage intention and to understand how they influence the dependent variable. With regards to that, this study specifies four research issues. First, to identify the factors that can be used as surrogate measure of OPR performance in terms of OPR usage outcomes. Second, to identify the factors that measure the consumers’ OPR evaluation beliefs in terms of their instrumental, social-psychological, and affective beliefs. Third, to ascertain how the consumers’ perception of OPR performance influences their behavioural intention towards OPR continuous usage. Fourth, to examine the impact of OPR evaluation factors on consumers’ perception of OPR performance. However, four theoretical models; IS continuance model, effort-accuracy model, theory of trust formation, and flow theory, were adopted and integrated to describe the causal linkages between the determinants of OPR performance and OPR continuous usage intention. Subsequently, six main hypotheses were developed and tested based on the integrated research model. A questionnaire that reflects the research constructs is developed to collect the primary data for this study. The data were collected from 626 Amazon customers who have used OPR for their buying decision over at least six months. Since this study is quantitative with a deductive approach, it employs Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to validate and confirm research model by testing the relationships that were hypothesized. The findings of this study provide empirical evidences on the salient determinants of OPR continuous usage intention. The PLS results showed that all evaluation factors (i.e. ease of use, usefulness, confirmation, trust, and enjoyment) have statistically proven significant impact on OPR performance, except perceived ease of use. Furthermore, the study findings approve the influence of OPR performance on consumers’ OPR continuous usage intention for future buying decision. The findings indicated that consumers’ perceived decision effort, decision quality, and satisfaction representing OPR performance are direct determinants of OPR continuous usage intention and indirect measure of actual OPR continuous usage behaviours. Finally, research implications, limitations, and future researches are highlighted

Development of a men's health index / Muhammad Ashraf Khalid

Men have a higher burden of disease and mortality as compared to women across the globe. Despite this alarming phenomenon, focus on the health of men is notably absent in global health policies and programmes. One facilitator that might potentially capture the attention of policymakers, health professionals, and academics is the development of a men’s health index. An index can function in two major ways—to assess the magnitude of a problem, and to monitor changes in the problem, both over space and time. The purpose of this study is to examine the global state of men’s health by developing a men’s health index. This study was conducted in three phases. In phase 1, a scoping review was conducted to explore theories, models, and frameworks in men’s health studies. In phase 2, another scoping review was conducted to identify existing population health indices and to examine the methods used to develop these indices. In phase 3, a health index that measures health-related behavioural outcomes of countries and territories was developed to show the poorer health status of men as compared to women across the globe. The scoping review in phase 1 found theories, models, and frameworks of men’s health to be either generic to health sciences, generic to social sciences, or specific to men’s health. Three types of processes were observed: behavioural, cognitive, and gender processes. The scoping review in phase 2 discovered a low number of population health indices that measure specific health topics or health of specific sub-population. There is also lacking in the usage of universal theories, models, or frameworks in developing these indices. In phase 3, the developed health index comprises of five dimensions of health-related behaviours: (1) healthcare utilization, (2) diet, weight and physical activity, (3) substance use, (4) risk-taking, and (5) violence. The index evidently shows that men perform more health-compromising behaviours as compared to women and this gap remains consistent over the years. The index also shows significant associations with healthy life expectancy and the gender inequality index. The health index presents a multidimensional global assessment of health-related behavioural outcome, which explains the poorer health status of men as compared to women. The behaviours represented are modifiable lifestyle habits and the resulting adverse health effects of these behaviours are preventable. The index may serve as a baseline assessment and monitor the effectiveness of men’s health policies and programmes over the years. The comparable measure of the index provides objective assessment and potentially helps health policy design using evidence-based decision making to address men’s global burden of ill health

Blood had always been on demand all over the world. Blood donation would sometimes appear as troublesome to some people due to busy working schedule and the difficulty to search for nearest location and nearest blood donation events. The lack of advertising element in an event may resulted to low numbers of blood donors. The objectives of this project are to identify the user requirements for BloodNetwork application, to design and develop BloodNetwork application by following the Mobile Application Development Life Cycle (MADLC) methodology. This project however will be developing up until testing phase only. This project is intended to create blood donor’s community platform whereby the donors can locate blood donation events even in busy working list and creating awareness on the importance of blood donation while ensuring the repeating blood donation among blood donors. Geolocation technology will help users to stay informed of the location of blood donation events. Users may chat with other blood donors in requesting for blood and asking for advices for the potential blood donors. BloodNetwork can set a reminder for blood donors on their future donation in their device’s calendar application. The public user and the healthcare industry are the significance for this project. Users does not need to search for blood donation events in social media anymore hence it is time consuming and the blood supply may slightly increase due to the awareness on the importance of blood donation. For the future direction of BloodNetwork, this project is planning to be collaborating with National Blood Centre Malaysia to know the blood donation records for the blood donors and the insufficient blood supply in other regions. However, the limitation of this application is the chatting feature can only be used if the user’s device is installed with WhatsApp application

The purpose of this project is to analyze corner effect in 3G network. In this paper, two 3G service provider in Malaysia were selected in order to obtain more accurate data. Software used in this drive test is RF signal tracker and G-Net track from Google Play installed on android mobile phone. The drive test data was collected alongside Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. The drive test data further analyze by using Google Earth, and graph was plot by using Microsoft Excel .The main parameter to determine corner effects are Ec/No and RSCP level of User Equipment. From drive test conducted, Celcom show a better performance in 3G signal quality as compare to U Mobile. Corner effect was happen near to Ampang Park and both service providers experienced the same problem. Corner effect happen when user equipment experience sudden drop in signal level. Problem occur because of blockage in line of sight between user equipment and Node B. Detail analysis on corner effect included in next part of this paper
