A Conceptual Framework of the Individual Antecedents to Knowledge Sharing- With Empirical Evidence and Managerial Implications

    No full text
Purpose: The increasing importance of knowledge sharing, almost all successful firms deem knowledge sharing and knowledge management as one of the central and strategically most important organizational concerns and allocate huge budgets to the effective management and transfer of knowledge. However, despite some very thoughtful measures taken by organizations, most of the firms fail to reap the fruits of knowledge sharing due to being ignorant regarding the individual, organizational and contextual factors that facilitate or impede the process of organizational knowledge sharing. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research is based on the PhD research dissertation of the author and it was conducted through qualitative content analysis of research articles on the subject matter. Findings: In this paper, in the light of the existing literature and available empirical evidence, a conceptual framework of individual antecedents (determinants) of knowledge sharing is presented. Based on the findings of this research, interpersonal trust, intension to share, self-efficacy, feeling of self-worth, organizational commitment, reciprocity, a passion to help others are the most important individual antecedents to knowledge sharing.  Implications/Originality/Value: This research offers some key thoughts and implication for the managers and practitioners, to know the individual factors that facilitate the process of KS within organizations. The author has also suggested some valuable recommendations at the end, for the effective management of knowledge sharing in organizations. The paper also provides a meaningful and productive ground for conducting qualitative or quantitative research but can also help researchers in the designing of instruments for conducting research on the topic of individual antecedents to knowledge sharing (KS)

Influence of National Culture on Trust Development: Empirical Evidence and Managerial Implications

    No full text
Purpose: The existing research suggests that trust has a drastic impact on improving individual work motivation as well as organizational performance, keeping the status of glue that joins individuals and organizations. However, the existing research suggests that trust is influenced by various factors and national culture is one of them. This research is conducted to estimate, analyze and understand the influence of national culture on trust building in the light of the available literature and empirical evidence. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research is based on the PhD research dissertation of the author and it was conducted through qualitative content analysis of research articles on the subject matter. Findings: This research suggests that trust is not an independent, but a dependent variable, which is influenced by several individual, organizational and environmental factors and among these variables, national culture is one of the most important factors influencing the process of trust development among individuals as well as organizations. Implications/Originality/Value: This study corroborates the drastic cultural influence on trust development. Due to the internationalization of business, trust development is progressively encompassing cross-cultural relationships. Hence, cultural variance instead of a moderator, is a predictor for the cultivation of trust building. Theoretically, as well as practically, this research paper offers several implications for managers and practitioners. &nbsp

Purpose: Knowledge sharing has gained the attention and focus of academicians, researchers and scholars from all around the world for almost two decades; since its role and contribution toward organizational success is globally recognized.  However, despite   its   growing   significance   and   recognition, business managers and practitioners fail to earn the benefits of the same due to not being properly aware of the organizational factors that can   contribute   toward   the   creation and   implementation of efficient knowledge management systems and sharing of knowledge within organizations. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research is based on the PhD research dissertation of the author and it was conducted through qualitative content analysis of research articles on the subject matter. Findings: In this paper, in the light of the existing literature and available empirical evidence, a conceptual framework of   the organizational antecedents (determinants) of knowledge sharing is presented. Based on the findings of this research, organizational culture, organizational absorptive capacity, technology, interpersonal trust and relationships, team orientation, organizational support, decentralized organizational structure, employee empowerment and transformational leadership are the most important organizational antecedents to knowledge sharing.  Implications/Originality/Value: This paper    presents    some valuable implications and recommendations for the managers and practitioners   concerning   the   implementation   of   efficient   and effective knowledge management systems and the facilitation of knowledge sharing within organizations.                                                    &nbsp

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Pursuit of Happiness

    No full text
This research aims to explore the social satisfaction and happiness in the life of people who immigrated to Sweden from developing countries. The study will also analyse the reasons for migration among international immigrants who have moved to Sweden and what challenges they faced after moving to Sweden.  I will draw upon the concepts of sustainable development, social sustainability, perception, survival, hope, ambition, and well-being to investigate the reasons for immigration and the positive and negative impact of migration on immigrants’ lives (pre and post-migration) and their overall well-being.  Moreover, this research will study the host country's role in shaping migrants' well-being and the effects on the social sustainability of immigrant communities. By conducting qualitative interviews, I aim to gain insights into immigrants’ lives, their pre and post-immigration experiences, reasons for migration, challenges faced, and adaptation to the changes they experience.  The findings of this research will ultimately enhance our understanding of well-being, social sustainability, and their implications on international migrants.
