THE POTTER OF A STORY: MAZHAR UL ISLAM (BASIC STYLISTIC FEATURES IN THE STORIES OF MAZHAR UL ISLAM)

    No full text
Mazhar ul Islam is one of the leading authors of contemporary Urdu literature. Due to the romantic, realist, surrealist, and symbolist concepts used in his works, the author's style, which allows contrasting or incompatible interpretations to be harmonized, is described as his most important feature. The events and characters in the stories of Mazhar ul Islam are generally a literary reflection of Pakistani society. At the same time, the author does not hesitate to bring the traces of his inner world to the reader. While reflecting local feelings and events in his works, Mazhar ul Islam mostly uses trend literary structures in world literature as a tool and indirectly contributes to the universalization process of Urdu literature. The main literary feature of the author is that he has a style of writing that transforms reality into mystery and then brings the real meaning of the mysterious with reality, allowing the cognitive process to begin without time and space. The works of the author are in the form of documents of his life, and therefore the emotional experiences that penetrated his soul, the stages he passed and the worldly issues he observed form the basis of his literary technique. The unconditional harmony arising from freedom, opposition and contrasts in the author's narrative is nourished by these contrasting life experiences. In this study, basic information about Mazhar ul Islam's life and career have been tried to be presented and the author's stories have been tried to be analyzed in a thematic context.TrdizinDiğe

Growth of Output and Productivity in Pakistan’s Agriculture: Trends, Sources, and Policy Implications

    No full text
The paper aims to review the growth performance of Pakistan’s agriculture from 1950 to 1995. The long-term growth rate of agriculture, although respectable, has exhibited considerable yearly fluctuations even between decades. The period of the fifties and early seventies lacked any growth. Accelerating and high growth rates marked the decade of the sixties but the performance has not been satisfactory since 1979-80 and average growth rates have barely exceeded the population growth rate, with widespread implications for growth of national economy, food security, and social welfare of the masses. Area, modern inputs, and technology have been the major determinants of growth but prices were equally important because of their incentive and disincentive effects. The agriculture price policies adopted during the 1980s are known to have had a negative effect on the development and use of technology in agriculture. In order to boost agricultural productivity, a change in price policy is needed to ensure incentive prices. This could be done by setting agricultural commodity prices at par with corresponding import and export parity prices. A higher investment in research and development can hardly be overemphasised. There is an urgent need to remove the bottlenecks in agricultural input markets since these markets represent the typical monopoly position. To break up the monopoly of registered dealers and to promote competition, free sales in the open market by interested parties and individuals may be allowed.

Nanocrystals formation and intense green emission in thermally annealed AlN:Ho films for microlaser cavities and photonic applications

Plasma magnetron sputtered thin films of AlN:Ho deposited on flat silicon substrates and optical fiber were characterized and analyzed for structural changes after thermal annealing at 1173 K for 40 min, by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The films grown, at liquid nitrogen temperature, on silicon substrates were amorphous while those deposited around optical fiber were crystalline. The films were also investigated for any change in the luminescence when thermal activation was performed for 40 min in a nitrogen atmosphere. The AFM analysis identified the existence of crystalline structures in parts of the films after thermal annealing. The x-ray diffraction could not provide those results. The films around optical fiber were crystalline even deposited at liquid nitrogen temperature. Clearly, amorphous films are hard to achieve on smaller substrate size. Direct observation of green emission is possible with naked eye, when the thermally annealed films are studied under cathodoluminescence. The green emission occurs at 549 nm as a result from (5)S(2) -> (5)I(8) transition in Ho(3+) that enhanced with thermal activation, making it a very useful candidate for photonic and optical devices applications. Crystal and molecular structures of bis[(3-(2-furanyl)-2-propenoato)di-n-butyltin] oxide and triphenyltin 3-(2-furanyl)-2-propenoate

The crystal structures of the title compounds {(nBu₂Sn(O₂CC(H)=C(H)C₄H₃O)]₂O}₂ and [Ph₃Sn(O₂CC(H)=C(H)C₄H₃O)] have been determined at room temperature. In the structure of {(nBu₂Sn(O₂CC(H)=C(H)C₄H₃O)]₂O}₂ two nBu₂Sn unites are connected to a controsymmetric nBu₄Sn₂O₂ core at the bridging oxygen atoms. Each pair of tin atoms is linked further by a bidentate bridging carboxylate ligand and each of the two remaining ligands binds an exocyclic tin atom in the monodentate mode with the result that both of the independent tin atoms exist in a distorted trigonal bypyramidal geometry. A similar coordination geometry is found in the structure [Ph₃Sn(O₂CC(H)=C(H)C₄H₃O)] which is polymeric owing to the presence of bidentate bridging carboxylate ligands. No evidence for tin to furan-oxygen internations was found in either of the structures.Muhammad Danish, Saqib Ali, Muhammad Mazhar, Amin Badshah, Edward R.T. Tiekin
