The outbreak of the coconut scale insect Aspidiotus rigidus Reyne (Hemiptera: Encyrtidae) posed a serious threat to the coconut industry in the Philippines. In this article, we modeled the interaction between A. rigidus and its parasitoid Comperiella calauanica Barrion, Almarinez, Amalin (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) using a system of ordinary differential equations based on a Holling type III functional response. The equilibrium points were determined, and their local stability was examined. Numerical simulations showed that C. calauanica may control the population density of A. rigidus below the economic injury level. © The Author(s) 2018. No full text
In the modern world, where individuals may enter a library or browse online platforms without a specific book in mind. However, every reader has their own unique interests and preferences. With the help of Book Recommendation System, we can offer a solution by utilizing algorithms to suggest books based on a reader’s interests. With the aim of reducing the need to search for books and providing personalized recommendations, we propose the development of a website for students, designed to simplify the book selection process and eliminate confusion. By leveraging a user’s previous checkout history and search data, the website can recommend books based on the user’s interests. There are several models available for building such a system, using Content-based recommendation. However, most machine learning-based techniques rely on manually produced features derived from the input textual content. The models' performance was evaluated using a confusion matrix, where the accuracy, TF-IDF, cosine similarity, mean average precision were calculated. The highest accuracy obtained for the model is 82%. Overall, all objectives in this project are achieved successfully. However, there are also so limitations that needed improvement in the future. The major limitation is the algorithm running speed which can be a little slow when it comes to making recommendations. This is attributed to the intricacy of the content-based filtering algorithm, necessitating a substantial computational load on the central processing unit of a computer. In the future, the project can include the ability to explore multi-modal recommendation systems that consider not only textual information but also cover images, author details, and other relevant features to provide a more holistic understanding of user preferences

    No full text
AbstractKnee joint vibroarthrographic (VAG) signals acquired from extensive movements of the knee joints provide insight about the current pathological condition of the knee. VAG signals are non-stationary, aperiodic and non-linear in nature. This investigation has focussed on analyzing VAG signals using Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) and modeling a reconstructed signal using Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA). In the proposed methodology, we have used the reconstructed signal and extracted entropy based measures as features for training semi-supervised learning classifier models. Features such as Tsallis entropy, Permutation entropy and Spectral entropy were extracted as a quantified measure of the complexity of the signals. These features were converted into training vectors for classification using Random Forest. This study has yielded an accuracy of 86.52% while classifying signals. The proposed work can be used in non-invasive pre-screening of knee related issues such as articular damages and chondromalacia patallae as this work could prove to be useful in classification of VAG signals into abnormal and normal sets

The Islamic economy is currently undergoing rapid development, and research and investigation into it is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to adhere to Sharia law, which is the guiding light of society. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "I have left among you two things which, if you adhere to them, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and they will not separate until they meet at my pool." (Sahih al-Hakim, 2018). Islam governs all aspects of Islamic life, including the economic sphere, which is known as mu'amalah. All types of social and economic interactions between people fall under this transaction, which must be based on Sharia law. The Sunnah of the Prophet is an important reference in this regard, as it defines the rules and ethics of economic activities. The main source of Islamic law is the Holy Quran, and the second source is the Sunnah, which includes all the sayings, actions, and rulings of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Islamic economics has existed for a long time and has continued since the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him. For example, the principles of Islamic business currently include specific regulations that show that Islamic economics has developed in accordance with Islamic law. It is hoped that the provisions of the Qur'an and Sunnah will be taken into account in the process of drafting these regulations, and that all economic activities will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of Islamic law, as embodied by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (Esfaiyanti, 2023). Definition of financial transactions; In Arabic, the word “transaction” or its plural “transactions” refers to matters of life in general. According to the Dewan Dictionary (2000), the word “transactions” refers to everything related to the social sphere of affairs or matters of transactions, a profession that involves procedural or organizational relationships between humans in various aspects of life, especially in the economic, financial, and social spheres. It includes all types of transactions that occur in society, such as buying, selling, and renting

A Machine Learning Framework for Classroom EEG Recording Classification: Unveiling Learning-Style Patterns

    No full text
Classroom EEG recordings classification has the capacity to significantly enhance comprehension and learning by revealing complex neural patterns linked to various cognitive processes. Electroencephalography (EEG) in academic settings allows researchers to study brain activity while students are in class, revealing learning preferences. The purpose of this study was to develop a machine learning framework to automatically classify different learning-style EEG patterns in real classroom environments. Method: In this study, a set of EEG features was investigated, including statistical features, fractal dimension, higher-order spectra, entropy, and a combination of all sets. Three different machine learning classifiers, random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), and multilayer perceptron (MLP), were used to evaluate the performance. The proposed framework was evaluated on the real classroom EEG dataset, involving EEG recordings featuring different teaching blocks: reading, discussion, lecture, and video. Results: The findings revealed that statistical features are the most sensitive feature metric in distinguishing learning patterns from EEG. The statistical features and RF classifier method tested in this study achieved an overall best average accuracy of 78.45% when estimated by fivefold cross-validation. Conclusions: Our results suggest that EEG time domain statistics have a substantial role and are more reliable for internal state classification. This study might be used to highlight the importance of using EEG signals in the education context, opening the path for educational automation research and development

EEG-based sleep deprivation classification: a performance analysis of channel selection on classifier accuracy

    No full text
This study analyses the effect of electroencephalogram (EEG) channel selection on the classification accuracy of sleep deprivation using four distinct classifiers: Random Forest (RF), k-Nearest Neighbours (k-NN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). In this study, the EEG data from ten male individuals in good health were collected. Two distinct sets of EEG channels—a limited frontal channel set (Fp1, Fp2) and a thorough 19-channel set—were used to compare the performance of the classifiers. According to our findings, the k-NN classifier produced the greatest classification accuracy of 99.7% when applied to the 19-channel EEG signals. In contrast, both SVM and ANN classifiers were able to obtain the greatest accuracy of 94% with the frontal channels. Though there are not many gaps, these results imply that employing a larger range of EEG channels greatly improves the classification accuracy of sleep deprivation. The present study emphasizes the significance of channel selection in EEG-based sleep deprivation investigations by showcasing the significant advantages of full EEG signal capture over minimum channel configurations
