Storyline structure in Hausa home videos : an analysis of Mai Kudi, Sanafahna, and Albashi

    No full text
This study analyzes storyline structure in three Hausa home videos; Mai Kudi (The Rich Man), Sanafahna (with time truth shall dawn) and Albashi (Salary). The study measures storyline structure in these films against a Hollywood film industry model of story writing “the Hero's Journey”. It uses narrative analysis as its analytical tool, and narrative theory as its framework. After analyzing these videos, the study found that the major elements of storyline structure in Vogler's model formed the framework of the storyline structure in Hausa home videos analyzed. However, in spite of the preponderance of these elements within the storyline structure, there are significant variations to Vogler's model. Specifically, Vogler's model has some twelve stages spread on the universal structure of storytelling, i.e. beginning, middle and end. Few of these stages were found to exist in Hausa narrative structure, perhaps due to cultural differences between Western, Indian and Hausa cultures. The study therefore recommends screenwriters and producers to be aware of the existence of standard models of scriptwriting. It also recommends more training for script writers in the Hausa film industry

The ambiguity of the relationship between the state and religion in Indonesia causes the unique dynamics experienced by the legislative process of Islamic law in Indonesian laws and regulations. In this context, the Indonesian Ulama Council has a strategic position to encourage the legislative process of Islamic law into state law, including zakat norms. This paper discusses the legislation of Islamic philanthropic fatwas in state law that regulates zakat management in Indonesia, which is manifested in public policy. This research is normative research with a philosophical and historical approach. The research data used were the 22 fatwas of the Indonesian Ulama Council regarding zakat. The research results showed that Islamic philanthropic fatwa norms contribute significantly to public policy interventions that are oriented toward empowerment and community welfare improvement. This paper argues that the relationship pattern of the Indonesian Ulama Council's fatwa regarding zakat and positive law is as follows: first, sometimes a zakat fatwa strengthens state policies for the public benefit (ta'yīdī), and second, it becomes legal materials in formulating and making public policies (insyā'ī). Thus, the Islamic philanthropic fatwas of the Indonesian Ulama Council can become a tool of social control and a tool of social engineering for the Indonesian Muslim community

Internet of Everything (IoE)isa nexus of“people”, “processes”, “data”, and “things”, promoting closer collaboration and enhanced compatibility for the purpose of accelerating the flow of network connections and the information transference associated with them. Despite the immense success of IOE, it seems as though the system still has a few glitches in the aspects of security and privacy, or data protection. The various uses of IoE in maintaining and retaining specific individual data must be closely monitored, as it may be misused by anonymous entities for malicious purposes. This paper proposes a possible and relevant solutions to counteract these problems and ensure that the solution is working parallel to Islam's solutions from the Holy Quran and the Noble Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. Hence the paper conceptualized IoE as an evolving new technology that is a vital part of everyday life and Islam as well. Therefore, those IoE characteristic for the applications and services associated value multilayer stack are highlighted in the paper. The interlinked IoE technologies that gives machine-to-machine connectivity anywhere and anytime to communicate, exchange information, and complete an action associating with value-based are also highlighted. Finally, the paper reveals that IoE implementation with due consideration to value-based may usher in various ethical and privacy concer

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of a modeled community-based education (CBE) for self-management towards reducing disability and improving lower extremity functions among stroke survivors. Study type & settings: This single-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted among stroke survivors attending outpatient Physiotherapy unit of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria. Methodology: Single-blind randomized controlled trial design was employed by grouping the participants into experimental and control groups. Participants were considered eligible if their stroke was due to cerebrovascular accident, able to walk 10 meters unsupported, at least 30 days’ post-stroke and possessed cognition score of >24 on Mini-Mental State Examination. Sixty participants were assigned to either the intervention (n=31) or control group (n=29) and received intervention for 6 weeks after the baseline assessments. Modified Rankin Scale, Six-Minute Walk Test and Ten-Meter Walk Test were used to measure the degree of disability, walking distance and gait speed respectively. Results: Groups did not differ significantly in terms of stroke related disability, walking distance and gait speed at baseline. Post-intervention assessments showed time effect on participants’ walking distance across two test periods, indicating significant time effect (F =13.963, p =0.001) with an effect size of η2 =0.245. Disability was assessed using the modified ranking scale. The time effect of the participants’ performance on the scale across the two test periods indicated significant time effect; (F =8.563, p =0.005) with effect size of η2 =0.166. However, non-significant time effect was reported on gait speed of the ..........
