    No full text
In this thesis Islamic teaching methodology in the UAE has been examined in relation to Islamic ideology, the Qur'an and Muhammad's (pbuh) teaching methods, and in accordance with the social aims in the UAE. The aim of the investigation and the methodology used are outlined in Chapter I. Chapters II and III consider the nature and process of Islamic education as derived from the Islamic world view. They also try to demonstrate that the content of religious education is derived from the Holy Qur'an; the accepted model of the religious education teacher is derived from the personality and character of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh); and that the methods of religious education are derived from, and legitimated by, his practice. Chapter IV attempts to show how the scope and purpose of religious education is derived from the concept of community (Ummah) and the Islamic way of life (Shariah). These crucial features of Islam have implications for education and methodology. The Islamic subject teacher is expected to teach for a community larger than the classroom and for a way of life larger than the intellect or schooling. Detailed discussion of the teacher’s role is given in Chapter IV, while Islamic teaching methodology in the UAE is examined in Chapter V. Chapter VI discusses the relation between what is seen in the Emirates at the period of study and Islamic ideology and the methodologies of the Qur'an and Muhammad (pbuh). It examines methodologies in accordance with social aims in the UAE. The same chapter explores the conclusions and recommendations harvested from this work

Collaborative Thesis - Disrupting the Supply Chain: Application of A.I. and Machine Learning in Spares Inventory Management

    No full text
abstract: This thesis discusses the case for Company X to improve its vast supply chain by implementing an artificial intelligence solution in the management of its spare parts inventory for manufacturing-related machinery. Currently, the company utilizes an inventory management system, based on previously set minimum and maximum thresholds, that doesn’t use predictive analytics to stock required spares inventory. This results in unnecessary costs and redundancies within the supply chain resulting in the stockout of spare parts required to repair machinery. Our research aimed to quantify the cost of these stockouts, and ultimately propose a solution to mitigate them. Through discussion with Company X, our findings led us to recommend the use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) within the inventory management system to better predict when stockouts would occur. As a result of data availability, our analysis began on a smaller scale, considering only a single manufacturing site at Company X. Later, our findings were extrapolated across all manufacturing sites. The analysis includes the cost of stockouts, the capital that would be saved with A.I. implementation, costs to implement this new A.I. software, and the final net present value (NPV) that Company X could expect in 10 years and 25 years. The NPV calculations explored two scenarios, an external partnership and the purchase of a small private company, that lead to our final recommendations regarding the implementation of an A.I. software solution in Company X’s spares inventory management system. Following the analysis, a qualitative discussion of the potential risks and market opportunities associated with the explored implementation scenarios further guided the determination of our final recommendations

It is the aim of this thesis to investigate the work of the Saudi Arabian media and the information services in relation to the Hajj, to examine their policies, procedures and problems faced by them, and to propose solutions and improvements. The basic objective of this study during the Hajj is to examine how the Saudi Arabian media can serve more effectively the needs of the pilgrims, with their different cultures and languages. An historical examination of the evolution of the Hajj, the services and the media form the background and context for the examination of the current position. The following research methods were adopted: 1- Group discussions and interviews were carried out amongsts ome of the Islamic media visiting the Hajj in order to highlight any problems and concerns about the work of the Saudi Arabian media during the Hajj. 2- A content analysis of the Saudi Arabian newspapers during the Hajj season was carried out using a quota sampling procedure. In total 434 articles were studied using nine coding categories. 3- The content and form of Saudi Arabian radio and television programmes, Hajj handbooks, cassettes and video tapes provided for the pilgrims were analysed. 4- The daily routine of the average pilgrim during the 1993 Hajj season was observed. This work is divided into eight chapters. The Introduction (Chapter One) covers a statement of the problems, aims of the study and gives the various sources of information. In Chapter Two the historical background of the city of Mecca and the Kaaba is discussed, thus providing the historical aspects of the Hajj. The Saudi Arabian Royal Family and the Hajj are discussedin Chapter Three with respect to the importance of the Hajj as a religious obligation. Chapter Four examines the present Saudi Arabian official Hajj policy and procedures, the ministries and committees administering the Hajj and their terms of reference, and specific problems related to the Muslim calendar, weather, transport, accommodation, food, health, and security. Chapter Five is' devoted to the development of the Saudi Arabian media and their coverage of the Hau. Chapter Six analyses the problems which face the Saudi Arabian media during the Hai. Chapter Seven deals with proposed solutions. Finally, conclusions are presented regarding the main features of the present communication systems with regard to the coverage of the Hajj. There are nine major findings in this study: 1- Much has been written on the history of the two Holy cities of Mecca and al-Madina and Arabia's Hajj before and under the Islam, but little attention has been paid to the communication aspects of information and instruction available to the pilgrims. 2- The Saudi Arabian media strives to cater for all the pilgrims during their Haij. 3- The Pilgrims, however need more and better targeted information before, as well as after, their arrival in Saudi Arabia. 4- Most of the pilgrims have no radio or television sets in their buildings and so they are not directly exposed to Saudi Arabian Information. 5- The Saudi Arabian Hajj newspapers provide special information supplements, but these are not as effective as had been hoped. 6- The Islamic media delegation which visit Saudi Arabia during the Hajj believes that the Saudi Arabian media does not serve the pilgrims from different cultures adequately as there is a lack of programme targeting and a shortage of information for non arabic speaking pilgrims. 7- The Saudi Arabian television channels are unable, as yet, to provide services in the main pilgrims' languages, but new technologies should be able to redress this. 8- The Saudi Arabian Radio and TV stations need better scheduling. 9- No systematic study has yet been carried out about the pilgrims' attitudes, their daily movements, access and reaction to the Saudi Arabian Media during the Hail: such a study should form the basis of future media and information policies

The author submitted this entry in the Open Verse Poetry category (Professional division) for the 2023 On My Own Time (OMOT) Art Show.Like many creatives, I'm concerned about being replaced by artificial intelligence and not a fan of how programs are being trained. At the same time, as a person who occasionally doesn't feel at home in their body, I think it'd be great to just upload my brain into cyberspace and be a sort of A.I. program (although I guess I technically wouldn't be artificial)

In this paper, the author proves that use of A.I tools in an academic setting, such as a literature review course, does not lead to a Confusious Confusion, amongst the participants in the course. This paper targeted at the student community, proves the use of automation in homework submissions and even in presentations in virtual classrooms, as a clear victory of the creative vs the mundane in automatable workloads

Migration, work and globalization. Labor segmentation in the US new economy [Migración, trabajo y globalización. La segmentacion laboral en la nueva economía de los Estados Unidos]

Job casualization is a strategy of US leading companies in order to meet market challenges avoiding the costs of technological innovation. The author posits that Mexican workers provide the demographic base to this kind of jobs. Empirical analysis is based on the US Permanent Population Survey carried out in March 1998. This development widens the gap between skilled and unskilled workers and reduces job opportunities for a substantial part of labor and increases the workers' vulnerability as informal sectors in the economy increase. Flexibility and deregulation are the basis of migrant employment and have therefore direct consequences on the evolution of migration dynamics in the last decade
