Identification of the local stiffness reduction of a damaged composite plate using the virtual fields method
In the present study, a damage detection problem is formulated as the identification of the spatial stiffness distribution in a damaged composite plate. Full-field heterogeneous curvature fields obtained from an optical deflectometry technique are processed by using the virtual fields method adapted to retrieve the 2D stiffness distribution map of a damaged carbon-epoxy plate. The method not only picks up the location of the damage but also provides a fairly good estimate of the stiffness reduction in the damaged area. In this paper, the procedure is described, validated on simulated measurements and some initial experimental results are given. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.</p
The influence of welding condition on the microstructure of WC hardfacing coating on carbon steel substrate
Tungsten carbide (WC) hardfacing coating technique is widely used to improve the performance of carbon steel blade exposed to acidic and abrasive conditions during production. This paper deals with the influence of welding parameters on the microstructure and carbide distribution of WC. WC hardfacing was deposited onto carbon steel by shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Welding parameters such as welding current, number of weld layers, electrode drying and base material preheat were the focus of this work. Coating hardness, microstructure and elemental composition were analysed in detail. The effects of the welding parameters on WC hardfacing coating microstructure and hardness value were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and micro-Vickers hardness tester respectively. The larger carbide growth in overall coating region is mainly dictated by high current (200 A), increased number of weld layers (3 layers) and presence of base material preheat due to sufficient heat energy initiating carbide growth. The investigation also revealed that high current affected the growth of smaller carbide particles in matrix region significantly. Meanwhile, number of weld layers and base material preheat influences were seen during hardfacing with lower welding current. The absence of electrode drying led to uniform smaller carbide distribution in matrix region. It was found that increased number of large carbides and uniformly distributed smaller carbides in WC hardfacing deposit increased the hardness value of the coating
Esperienza ed evento della verità. Pratica filosofica e astrazione scientifica nel pensiero di A.N. Whitehead
This article analyzes the relationship between philosophy, experience and event in A.N. Whitehead’s thought. From the critics of the concept of object, the author retraces and describes the peculiar “abstract-concrete dialectic”, at the center of the researches concerning the perceptual experience.
Furthermore, according to Whitehead’s later works, she demonstrates how the philosophical practice is different from all other kinds of science, although it requires science itself because of the co-implication of object and event, abstraction and recognition
Il "Guerrin Meschino" di Gesualdo Bufalino : un'"opra" in versi
Gesualdo Bufalino first published Il Guerrin Meschino in 1991 in a non-commercial edition. In 1993, after a deep revision, he re-published his work with publisher Bompiani: the novel has a modified plot, and the author decided to insert three new poems in addition to the opening and closing poems, formerly present in 1991’s edition. This paper, in its entirety supported by handwritten material preserved at Fondazione Gesualdo Bufalino (Comiso), is divided in two parts: the first part illustrates the differences between the first and the second edition, the second part provides a critical edition of the five poems

Hoogwaterversla

The Ontology of the Causal Basis of Man : To the Theory of Time
In 2014, Amirbegov Y.M.'s monograph titled "Mechanics of Thinking" or "Ontological Basis of the Subject" was published, which dealt with a philosophical question: the relationship of matter with consciousness and time of our being. But since the monograph duplicated the thesis conceived by the author and did not go beyond the material presented in it, on the advice of the consultant the author of the monograph is preparing its second edition in an expanded version with a new title: " Ontology of Causal Basis of Man", attracting his mentor, the author of "The Theory of Time or Principle of Formation of Matter Forms" Amirbegov M.R., as a co-author of this book,
Adhering to the opinion that matter between past and future temporal conti-nuity of eternity is reduced to nothing and in reality there remains only a causeless "Nothing", the authors of this book from a clean sheet, but with baggage of knowledge about objective forms of being and causeless reality with its possibili-ties, build an unparalleled theoretical model of human integrity, answering the question: what does a man, his sensorium, consciousness, his thinking apparatus and thought itself, why and how? The authors submit this book to the judgment of the reader

The Case of Jakarta: A City with an Isolated Bus Rapid Transit: formulating a design strategy to establish an integrated transit oriented development in Jakarta using the existing bus rapid transit system
Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, a developed country in the Southeast Asia. With the population of 23 million, Jakarta and the surrounding area is the 4th largest urban area in the world. As the result, Jakarta suffers from inadequate facility such as severe traffic jams caused by too much commuting from areas around Jakarta, and air pollution caused by the traffic. The newly proposed Jakarta Mass Transit System has created an opportunity to the city’s mobility. The system has just been implemented, not completed yet, but is already working. The system will be finished in 2015 completing the whole Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit System. There is an opportunity to reintegrate the unconnected area in the city center. Since 2004, the TransJakarta Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), part of the Jakarta MRT, has been implemented in Jakarta. However, there is no in-depth research on how the Mass Transit System’s affect the vitality of the city. Currently, the BRT only solves the problem of infrastructure, that is the congestion problem. There is no integration between the BRT network and the urban fabric. There is an opportunity to implement a more sustainable transport mode but there is no guideline to direct the system to this direction. Around the world, large cities started to implement sustainable mobility in their city’s building project. Transit-oriented Development in the United States and cities such as Bogota, Zurich, Singapore are one of the many examples of an integrated transport mode or transit-oriented development. Jakarta is late on the idea of integration between the urban fabric and a transportation network and hasn’t consider the possibility of implementing a TOD on the existing MRT/BRT. With this vision of sustainable mobility kept in mind, and with the author’s concern on the environment and the ever increasing use of private automobiles, the author tries to research on the possibility of integrating the BRT system with the urban fabric to create a more sustainable transport mode by implementing a concept of TOD. Unique in this research is that the author is using space syntax as a method of approach to investigate the level of integration of an area next to a BRT system and the use of research by design to investigate improved urban design in the areas surrounding the stops of the BRT system. For this reason, the author decided to choose this topic for the thesis project.UrbanismArchitectur
