A contribution to the study of Gnathia ware from Issa
Keramika tipa Gnathia pronađena je na 38 nalazišta duž istočne
obale Jadrana i bliže mu unutrašnjosti. Ipak, najviše posuda te
keramičke vrste pronađeno je u antičkoj Isi. Brojnost i određene
značajke u obliku i ukrasu na posudama iz Ise otvorile su
pretpostavku o lokalnoj isejskoj proizvodnji keramike tipa
Gnathia. Prvi je tu pretpostavku iznio Branko Kirigin. Na temelju
proučavanja grobnog inventara s nekropole na Martvilu u Visu
podijelio je posude tipa Gnathia iz Ise u četiri faze. Autorica je
pomoću arheoloških komparativnih metoda analize dekoracije i
morfologije na svim dosad objavljenim posudama ove vrste na
istočnom Jadranu usporedila novije spoznaje o ovoj keramičkoj
vrsti s Kiriginovim tezama. Također je ponudila razvoj tipologije
posuda isejske keramike tipa Gnathia unutar kronološkog okvira
od sredine 3. do kraja 2. st. pr. Kr.Gnathia ware was found at 38 sites on the eastern Adriatic coast
and its immediate interior. Nonetheless, the most vessels of this
pottery type were found in Antique-era Issa. The high number
and specific characteristics in the shape and ornamentation on
the vessels from Issa have led to the hypothesis on local Issa
production of this pottery type. Branko Kirigin first stated this
hypothesis on the basis of study of the tomb inventory from the
necropolis at Martvilo in Vis, dividing the Gnathia vessels from
Issa into four phases. Using stylistic methods for the attribution
of painters and groups, analysis of morphology on all vessels thus
far published in the eastern Adriatic, the author compared new
knowledge on this pottery type with Kirigin’s theses. She also offers
a development of the typology of the Issa Gnathia ware vessels
inside a chronological framework from the mid-third to the end of
the second century BC

Formal object of this research is the study of structural contained in the work of Kobayashi Issa haiku. This research material object is a collection of haiku work Kobayashi IssaIssa contained in Haikushuu (Maruyama 2010). Objects haiku selected based on seven themes that exist as well as interesting and powerful meaning when analyzed using structural methods. This is because the author wants to reveal the meaning of structural and symbols found on some poems by Kobayashi Issa.
The method used to analyze the meaning of the poem Kobayashi Issa is a structural method. Abrams structural methods based on the theory used to determine the overall meaning that the physical structure and the inner structure. The physical structure is composed of diction, figure of speech and imagery. Inner structure consists of a theme, taste, tone and atmosphere, as well as the mandate and objectives. After the authors reveal the symbol consisting of a blank symbol, natural symbol and symbol to check your private meanings contained in the sign of poetry.
Results to be achieved in this research is to know the building blocks that make up the work of Kobayashi Issa haiku is the physical structure and the inner structure. Knowing the symbols contained in Issa haiku is blank symbol, and a private symbol natural symbol. Reveal the meaning and discourse on Issa haiku so it can find implicit message contained in haiku studied.

Ecological Role of Dry-Habitat Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) at Issa, Ugalla, Tanzania
abstract: Identifying the ecological role, or niche, that a species occupies within their larger community elucidates environmental adaptability and evolutionary success. This dissertation investigates the occupied niche of chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) living in an open, dry savanna-woodland environment by examining patterns of resource use and interspecific interactions. Data were collected October 2010--November 2011 at Issa, in the Ugalla region of western Tanzania, which is one of the driest, most open, and seasonal habitats inhabited by chimpanzees. Unlike most primatological studies which employ methods that include focal follows, this study focused instead on observing 'resource patches' for chimpanzees. Patch focals allow for the observation of all animals within a study area; capture resources that are not used by the study species; and are particularly well suited for unhabituated communities. In order to better understand relationships between environment and behavior, data collected at Issa are compared with published data from other chimpanzee populations. Issa chimpanzees were expected to have broader resource use than forest chimpanzees, as well as increased competition with other fauna, due to fewer available resources. However, in contrast to the assumption of food scarcity in dry habitats, dietary resources were available throughout the year. Like other populations, the diet of Issa chimpanzees consisted of mostly fruit, but unlike at other sites, the majority of plants consumed were woodland species. Additionally, although chimpanzees and other fauna shared spatial and dietary resources, there was only nominal overlap. These results point to extremely low levels of indirect competition between chimpanzees and other fauna. Despite extensive study of forest chimpanzees, little is known about their role within their faunal community in open, dry habitats, nor about how greater seasonality affects resource use. This project addresses both of these important issues and fosters novel approaches in anthropological studies, especially in reference to chimpanzee ecology and evolution. Understanding current chimpanzee behavioral relationships with their environments shapes hypotheses about their pasts, and also informs predictions about behaviors of similar taxa in paleo-environments. Lastly, examining the ecological role of chimpanzees within their larger communities will influence the formation of, as well as evaluate, conservation strategies.Dissertation/ThesisPh.D. Anthropology 201
Polyphony and the anxiety of influence in the fiction of Henry James
James's fiction, especially in the Middle Phase, centres
on the figure of the artist and is characterized by, the two
interrelated aspects which previous criticism has largely
overlooked: the Bakhtinian 'polyphonic' -creation of
'author-thinkers'; and the conflict between ephebes and
precursors, for which Harold-Bloom's concept of 'the-anxiety of
influence' is the most illuminating model. Polyphony is the
narrative mode, and influence is the intra-artistic, theme.
These, as the Introduction to the thesis makes clear, are
rehearsed in James's inaugural novel, Roderick Hudson. Rowland
Mallet is an author-thinker, and his failure is caused by
authorial limitations. His monologism -is impaired by his
mistaking empathy for the authorial sympathy. Likewise,
Hudson's failure does not arise from a mercurial temperament,
but from a polyphonic shortcoming: not possessing the power of
fiction to contain the fiction of power in, his mentor. And the
relationships among the three artists - Gloriani, Hudson and
Singleton - perfectly exemplify the Bloomian-theme. It is these
two concepts, polyphony and influence, which are the major
preoccupation in the Middle Phase; as, the works chosen
demonstrate. These are a novella, a novel, and a number of
short stories all of which have been unjustifiably neglected.
Chapter One, on The Aspern Papers, argues that Tina Bordereau,
far from being, the artless victim seen by many critics,
actually challenges and defeats the narrator by the very form
of her narrative. Her 'realist' discourse undermines his
language of 'romance', and shows up its internal unstability.
Chapter Two is an extensive study of the critical reception of
The Tragic Muse. The most common areas of critical attention
have been its contemporary topicality, its relation to previous
novels on similar themes, and the possible genealogy of Gabriel
Nash. Those have all missed the core of the work. - Chapter Three
demonstrates how polyphony and the anxiety of influence make
the novel what it really is. Influence arises from the
juxtaposition of, and the wrestling between, artistic ephebes
and their precursors (Nick and Nash,, Miriam and Madame Carre).
The dialogic quality defined by Bakhtin is crucial to the
proper, and even-handed, characterization of all, the conflicts
in the novel. And since most of James's tales in the eighties
and nineties -are about 'masters - and acolytes, the anxiety of
influence remains central. Chapter Four is a study of 'The
Author of Beltraffiol' and 'The Lesson of the Master'. Again the
characters' manipulations are a crucial focus in a way that
G6rard Genette's terminology helps to illuminate. The fact that
the ephebe is the author-thinker emphasizes the inextricability
of the Bakhtinian and the Bloomian in James. Just as
polyphony offers a different focus for explicating the poetics
of James's fiction; so the ephebal conflict provides the basis
for a fresh perception of James's own artistic struggle

Czech Social Reform/Non-reform: Routes, Actors and Problems
In this contribution, the author first considers the characteristics of the Czechoslovak communist welfare state and its theoretical alternatives. Throughout the reform process, dependency on both corporatist and socialist regimes won out, while residualist efforts were promoted in the beginning, but were later held back. The author then considers the possible actors involved in social reforms. In this respect, when proceeding from a general to a more concrete level, thought should first be devoted to the social classes and their ideologies, and second to political parties and their leaders. The author goes on to summarise the particular problems and traps in individual sections of the Czech social system. While no objection to decent standards of social protection and health care could be raised, the poor efficiency of their achievement should evoke concern. The author concludes by reflecting on the possible specificities of Czech social reform in comparison with the other countries undergoing reform and the EU. The current lethargy of the Czech welfare system corresponds to a “frozen edifice”, just as in most Western countries. However, such stagnation is apparently acceptable to both the politicians (who mask it in reformist rhetoric) and the population (which learned to master taking advantage of the generous welfare state) and thus is basically sustainable in the long run.social policy, social reforms, Czech Republic
Securities clearance and settlement systems - a guide to best practices
As an essential part of a nation's financial sector infrastructure, securities clearance, and settlement systems must be closely integrated with national payment systems, so that safety, soundness, certainty, and efficiency can be achieved at a cost acceptable to all participants. Central banks have paid considerable attention to payment systems, but securities clearance, and settlement systems have only recently been subjected to rigorous assessment. The Western Hemisphere Payments and Securities Clearance and Settlement Initiative (WHI), led by the World Bank, and in cooperation with the Centro de Estudios Monetarios Latinoamericanos (CEMLA), gave the authors a unique opportunity to observe how various countries in Latin America, and the Caribbean undertake securities clearance, and settlement. To do so, the authors developed a practical, and implementable assessment methodology, covering key issues that affect the quality of such systems. In this paper they discuss the objectives, scope, and content of a typical securities system, identify the elements that influence the system's quality, and show how their assessment methodology works. They focus on the development of core principles, and minimum standards for integrated systems of payments, and securities clearance and settlement. Their paper fills a gap by providing an evaluation tool for assessors of such systems, especially those who must assess evolving systems in developing, and transition economies. Essentially, an assessment involves a structured analysis to answer four related questions: 1) What are the objective, and scope of a securities clearance and settlement system? 2) Who are the participants, what roles do they play, and what expectations do they have? 3) What procedures are required to satisfy the participants'needs? 4) What inherent risks are involved, and how can they be mitigated at an acceptable cost?Environmental Economics&Policies,Payment Systems&Infrastructure,Financial Intermediation,International Terrorism&Counterterrorism,Securities Markets Policy&Regulation,Financial Intermediation,Environmental Economics&Policies,Settlement of Investment Disputes,Payment Systems&Infrastructure,Insurance&Risk Mitigation
Assessing the demand and current status of agricultural mechanization in major coffee-production areas of Ethiopia
Ethiopia, the primary coffee producer in Africa and the fifth in the world is facing challenges in agricultural mechanization. The research aims to assess the status, constraints, preferences, and demand of mechanization in Ethiopia, focusing on strategies to improve smallholder access to capital-intensive inputs and bridgethe gap between mechanization and farmers’ needs. A household survey and focus group discussions were conducted on 136 random samples using a multistage procedure, with semi-structured questionnaires used to interview 81 households of small-scale and 19 households of large-scale coffee farmers. The studyfound that preferences for each operation during coffee production are based on difficulties in work drudgery, with 42.45% believing that the first energy-consuming operation is hole digging for coffee plantation and cultivation. Coffee harvesting is a highly time-sensitive operation for 49.4% of smallholder farmers, with handtools being the main implement dominantly used for weeding. Poor harvesting practices reduce the quality of coffee during processing, and some unions have two or more wet mills using old machinery. The main challenges for low mechanization in Ethiopia include difficult topography, fragmented land, a lack of manpower, lack of awareness of technology, weak linkages of coffee mechanization channels, high technology costs, a shortage of running budgets, and a weak support system of cooperatives and unions. Experts suggest that capacity building on extension systems is the best way to facilitate the extension system of coffee mechanization technology. Assessments of technology manufacturers, machine assemblers, maintenance service providers, and importers were conducted in Harar, Hawassa, Jimma, Bonga, and Addis Ababa cities. Challenges include a lack of enabling laws and incentives to facilitate business start-ups. Importation of small-scale enginedriven equipment is an additional means to meet demand in some cooperativesand may provide farmers with an alternative source of cheaper machinery. Ethiopian academics and higher education institutions are essential players in exploring mechanization options, and public and private sectors, including cooperatives and farmer organizations, need to have a clear understanding of their respectiveresponsibilities and areas for collaboration.

L’orfano: metamorfosi letterarie di un archetipo
The archetype of the orphan is explored through a series of examples found in Ancient and Italian literature. The literary figures here analysed portray condition or feelings of abandonment and estrangement typical of orphans. However, the author asserts that such condition or feelings can lead to an important inner development where imagination and psyche play important roles. The result is a surge of individual and collective consciousness combined with the creation of timeless literary characters
