Performing the Author
The Japanese-Korean author Yū Miri (born in 1968), still fairly unknown in Germany, belongs to those successful contemporary Japanese authors for whom it is typical to be known and celebrated not only for their texts but also for their excessive media presence. The multimedia staging by the author of her self as the ‘author Yū Miri’ sparks just as much interest in the Japanese public and literary scene as do her literary texts. In her book, published by the Munich-based house Iudicium Verlag, Iwata-Weickgenannt provides not only a comprehensive overview of Yū’s literary works published between the years of 1994 and 2005, but she also thematizes the medial representation of ‘Yū Miri’ in her analyses. In the first section of her book, Iwata-Weickgenannt provides a very good overview of the field out of which Yū’s identity problematic as a Japanese-Korean author arises. The second main section of the book is structured along the three phases of the self-discovery process, or rather the self-creation process, o
Eine wohltuende Unsicherheit: On Naming and Authenticity in the Works of Milena Michiko Flašar
Through a close reading of the works by the young Austrian author Milena Michiko Flašar, this article explores the complex role of given, assumed, and socially imposed names for transnational subjects. For the first- and second-generation migrants in Flašar’s texts, migration and translation are both liberating and encumbering: In her first text [Ich bin] , translation across linguistic and ethnic borders serves as the perfect defamiliarizing impetus for aesthetic production, while in her novel Okaasan: Meine unbekannte Mutter the plurality of names for the migrant mother inhibits the second-generation daughter’s search for a true or authentic name for herself. Nevertheless, instead of an economy of translation where one name replaces another, Flašar shows her figures gradually developing the capacity to maintain multiple names in different languages. I argue that this replaces the conventional model of individual authenticity as self-congruence with one that does not demand hypermastery of self and that bears witness to the true complexity of transnational experience. A final analysis of Flašar’s breakthrough novel Ich nannte ihn Krawatte builds on these themes to show that even non-migrants and non-minority subjects have access to this same complexity, one which in Flašar’s words infuses a wohltuende Unsicherheit [beneficial uncertainty] into even the most hegemonic society
Dayside/nightside asymmetry of ion densities and velocities in Saturn's inner magnetosphere
We present Radio and Plasma Wave Science Langmuir probe measurements from 129 Cassini orbits, which show a day/night asymmetry in both ion density and ion velocity in the radial region 4–6 RS (1 RS = 60,268 km) from the center of Saturn. The ion densities ni vary from an average of ∼35 cm−3 around noon up to ∼70 cm−3 around midnight. The ion velocities vi,θ vary from ∼28–32 km/s at the lowest dayside values to ∼36–40 km/s at the highest nightside values. The day/night asymmetry is suggested to be due to the radiation pressure force acting on negatively charged nanometer-sized dust of the E ring. This force will introduce an extra grain and ion drift component equivalent to the force of an additional electric field of 0.1–2 mV/m for 10–50 nm sized grains.</p
A Case for a Small to Negligible Influence of Dust Charging on the Ionization Balance in the Coma of Comet 67P
A recent work aided by Rosetta in situ measurements set constraints on the dust-to-gas mass emission ratio and the
size distribution of dust escaping the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko near perihelion. Here we
use this information along with other observables/parameters as input into an analytical model aimed at estimating
the number density of electrons attached to dust particles near the position of Rosetta. These theoretical estimates
are compared to in situ measurements of the degree of ionization. The comparison proposes that Rosetta, while
near perihelion, was typically not in electron-depleted regions of the inner coma of 67P. Our work suggests a
typical level of electron depletion probably below 10% and possibly below 1%. In line with previous studies, we
find, again with certain assumptions and other observables/parameters as input, that the observed negative
spacecraft charging to a few tens of volts does not significantly impact the detection of charged dust grains, with a
possible exception for grains with radii less than ∼10 nm

The Importance of Teacher Assistance in the Development of Young Children's Musical Expression
The purpose of this study was to determine the different kinds of skills a kindergarten teacher must have in order to help very young students' optimal development of their musical expression. In this study one teacher of 3-year-old children was givin personal individual training by the author. At the same time she was interviewed regarding her impressions of her students' musical expression and activity. She then documented instances of student activity that mirrored musical expression. This study focused on one individual's training, an interview, and a documented case study. The results suggest that teacher awareness of student activity, whether individual activity or group activity, is essential for the development of musical expression in very young children
<ARTICLES>Reconsider of Tonnies's Criticism on Public Opinion
The purpose of this paper is to reconsider the concept of public opinion through Kritik der offentliche Meinung (Criticism on public opinion) published in 1922 by Ferdinand Tonnies. Although he is well known as the author of Gemainschaft und Gesellschaft (Community and Association), his other books are not regarded anything important today. Kritik is sometimes referred to by scholars of mass communication, but the attractive points of the book are still unfamiliar and the citations tend to be highly fragmentary. His concern about public opinion, which culminated in Kritik, was already initiated as early as 1887 when he write GuG. So I will begin with the role of public opinion to which he assigned in his theory of GuG. Then I explain contents of Kritik, some concepts differentiating public opinion, and especially his thought about the relation between World War I and public opinion. It is very important to know how the scholar of those days thought about the relation. In conclusion I want to show the contribution and possibility involved in his theory in spite of any weaknesses
