Children's Education - Interview with Mohini Kumar
Mohini speaks of her decision to stay in Canada for her children's education
Presence.
Presence at Leighton House, London in 2003, was an innovatory exhibition that featured interventions and installations (including a sound piece by the artist Mohini Chandra) by four contemporary artists and archival material from the Royal Anthropological Institute Photographic Collection. Both sets of material were inserted alongside the existing permanent exhibits at Leighton House
Artes Mundi's 'At The Table' with artist Sancintya Mohini Simpson, joined by Becca Voelcker, Hajra Haider Karrar and Shivanjani Lal
Sancintya Mohini Simpson will be in conversation with Becca Voelcker, a writer and historian, artist and curator Shivanjani Lal and curator, writer and researcher Hajra Haider Karrar. Artes Mundi's 'At The Table' series brings together the voices of the six AM11 artists alongside those of international curators, artists, historians, thinkers and writers in a series of roundtable discussions. The talks will centre on themes and ideas present in the artist’s work and the interwoven relationship between histories and practices, locally to internationally
Right to Education, A Review of Mohini Jain
The judgement in Mohini Jain is laudible, and has led to a standardization of the selection procedure in educational institutions in India
Mohini: A Case Study of a Transnational Spiritual Space in the History of the Theosophical Society
This essay investigates the well-known, yet understudied, Bengali Theosophist Mohini Mohun Chatterji. In this essay, Mohini Chatterji’s life and career will be discussed in relation to the Theosophical Society. His case will be seen as an example of how Bengali Theosophists played a significant role in the transcultural, entangled history of the global Theosophical movement, thus connecting Vedantic philosophy with occultism

India in Yeats’s Early Imagination: Mohini Chatterjee and Kālidāsa
W. B. Yeats’s interest in India persisted throughout his variegated life and career, starting in the late nineteenth century and lasting through the final decade of his life. This article concentrates on his early years when he first came to terms with Indian philosophy, religion, and literature via the Vedāntist-Theosophist Mohini Chatterjee and the work of the fifth-century Sanskrit playwright Kālidāsa. With a view to examining critically Yeats’s creative engagement with, and appropriation of, these disparate materials, this article closely reads a discarded 1880s poem on Chatterjee’s teaching and its later 1929 version, “Mohini Chatterjee,” as well as his early Indian poems, collected in Crossways. The reading of these poems is supplemented by critical analysis of the relevant Indian texts, which will illuminate the poems concerned as well as the extent of Yeats’s imaginative improvisation
Supercritical fluid chromatography - mass spectrometry
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the most widely usedseparation technique within the pharmaceutical industry. Due to the growing need forhigh speed and high quality separations other techniques, such as supercritical fluidchromatography (SFC), are now being considered. The key advantage of SFC is minimalsolvent waste, which is particularly important in preparative SFC, leading to fast samplerecovery. Hence it is important to explore whether SFC, which promises to be cheaperand more environmentally friendly than conventional HPLC, can be applied more widelyas a complementary method.SFC coupled to mass spectrometry, with an electrospray ion source, was used toanalyse diverse series of test compounds. The ionisation of samples in the absence ofhigh voltage, i.e. ionisation voltages, was observed when a SFC was coupled toelectrospray ionization (ESI) source. This novel ionisation process was furtherinvestigated and an attempt was made to explain this ionisation phenomenon and theimproved sensitivity quantified. To probe this ionization mechanism, specific testcompounds were analysed and data acquired with high voltages on (electrospray) or off(Novospray). Ammonium acetate and formic acid were introduced as buffer to see ifNovospray ionization is thermo spray type or driven by charged residue model. TheNovospray data was comparable or better than the classical ESI and atmospheric pressurechemical ionization (APCI) methods. The ionisation is neither thermospray type nordriven by charged residue model. Yet another possibility was sonic spray, where the ionintensity strongly depends on the gas flow velocity consentient with high pressure flowfrom SFC.One of the objectives of this project has been to determine whether a generic setof rules can be applied to choosing the best technique for the separation and analysis of agiven sample based on the chemistries of compounds involved. In an attempt to developgeneric analytical and preparative methods, a diverse series of test compounds wereanalyzed on different stationary phase columns with use of a modifier, primarilymethanol. To improve the chromatography on certain stationary phases additives havebeen used. For some compound types two peaks were observed upon injection, thisappears to be linked to compound type and the injection procedure. Data attempting toexplain this phenomenon is presented and in particular how the choice of injectionsolvent affects possible compound interactions with the stationary phase and peak shape. Thus, a direct comparison of HPLC and SFC was undertaken with a diverseseries of test compounds using the same conditions, to highlight the effectiveness of thetwo techniques in terms of speed and more importantly compound coverage. HPLC andSFC data are presented, comparing a generic analysis protocol with compound specificanalyses. Preliminary findings showing the overlap between the two separationtechniques is discussed and specific differences observed with the different column typesused is outline
