    No full text
The Islamic banking industry\u27s rapid global growth, driven by increasing demand for Sharia-compliant financial solutions, has exposed a significant challenge: talent shortage. This study addresses a research gap by systematically reviewing and synthesising 42 studies published between 2000 and 2023 that examine the multidimensional causes of talent shortages in Islamic banking. Data were collected from Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and industry reports, applying thematic coding to identify key patterns. Results reveal that lack of awareness and education (76% of reviewed studies), cultural and religious barriers (54%), compensation discrepancies (48%), regulatory complexities (43%), and regional disparities in talent availability (39%) are the most cited causes. The findings are framed using Human Capital Theory and Institutional Theory to provide both practical and theoretical insights. The study proposes strategic recruitment, retention, skill development, and industry competitiveness enhancement initiatives to address these shortages. Practical implications for policymakers, HR managers, and education providers are discussed to ensure long-term sectoral sustainability

    No full text
Musculoskeletal corticosteroid injection is commonly used as an adjunct to help patients in pain management. In this current COVID-19 pandemic, many clinicians would differ from this treatment as steroid is considered an immunosuppressive drug and could risk the patient of developing severe adverse effects if contracting COVID-19. This is a retrospective study based in Sabah, Malaysia, examining the prevalence of COVID-19 infection following musculoskeletal corticosteroid injection from 1 December 2019 until 30 June 2020 in the sports medicine clinic and the orthopedic clinic. Patients who received musculoskeletal corticosteroid injection were called by telephone and asked about visits to the emergency department or government health clinic for influenza-like illness symptoms or severe acute respiratory infection that would require screening of COVID-19. Thirty-five patients who responded to the call were included, with mean ages of 47.9 years ± 15.1. 52% were male respondents, while 48% were female. 25% of them were diabetics, and 2.9% of them had a history of lymphoproliferative disorders. The mean pain score before injection was 6.74 ± 1.03 and after injection pain was 2.27 ± 1.63. In this study, there were 11.4% (n = 4) with minor complications of steroid injection, that is, skin discoloration. Nonetheless, there were no severe complications due to corticosteroids reported. There were no reported cases of COVID-19 among the respondents following corticosteroid injection. Musculoskeletal pain would affect a person’s well-being and activities; thus, its management requires that careful consideration with risk-benefit analysis be made before administering musculoskeletal corticosteroid injection during COVID-19 pandemic

Sago biomass as a sustainable source for biohydrogen production by clostridium butyricum A1

    No full text
Biohydrogen production from biomass is attracting many researchers in developing a renewable, clean and environmental friendly biofuel. The biohydrogen producer, Clostridium butyricum A1, was successfully isolated from landfill soil. This strain produced a biohydrogen yield of 1.90 mol H2/mol glucose with productivity of 170 mL/L/h using pure glucose as substrate. The highest cumulative biohydrogen collected after 24 h of fermentation was 2468 mL/L-medium. Biohydrogen fermentation using sago hampas hydrolysate produced higher biohydrogen yield (2.65 mol H2/mol glucose) than sago pith residue (SPR) hydrolysate that produced 2.23 mol H2/mol glucose. A higher biohydrogen productivity of 1757 mL/L/h was obtained when using sago hampas hydrolysate compared to when using pure glucose that has the productivity of 170 mL/L/h. A comparable biohydrogen production was also obtained by C. butyricum A1 when compared to C. butyricum EB6 that produced a biohydrogen yield of 2.50 mol H2/mol glucose using sago hampas hydrolysate as substrate. This study shows that the new isolate C. butyricum A1 together with the use of sago biomass as substrate is a promising technology for future biohydrogen production
