    Al-Hâjj Modibo Diarra, nouvel acteur du paysage religieux malien, publie régulièrement, depuis 1987, des ouvrages de vulgarisation islamique en langue bambara, comportant aussi des traductions de l’arabe (extraits coraniques inclus). Son initiative relie les langues, les formes de communication orales et écrites, les savoirs et les réseaux dans l’islam ouest-africain. Les librairies bamakoises les distribuent en même temps que le village de l’auteur demeure le centre de sa production. Le milieu des librairies urbaines sert de relais à un phénomène qui reste pourtant essentiellement rural, tant par ses origines que par sa destination. Le parcours biographique de l’auteur/traducteur est à cet égard emblématique. Cette production imprimée islamique en bambara reconfigure les pratiques et les savoirs islamiques.Al-Hajj Modibo Diarra, a new actor of the Malian religious landscape, since 1987 has been publishing several booklets popularizing Islamic doctrine in Bambara language. These also contain translations from Arabic (including excerpts from the Qur’an). This initiative ties relationships between languages, oral and written forms of communication, genres of knowledge, and networks in West African, especially Malian, Islam. The Islamic bookshops in Bamako serve as places of publication and circulation while the village where the writer lives is including the actual writing of these works. The milieu of urban Islamic bookshops proves to work as a link for a phenomenon which remains, though, fundamentally rural, both in its origins and in its target. However, this very phenomenon must also be understood as a result of the growing integration of a milieu so far considered impervious into different kinds of networks that go beyond a merely local setting: the author/translator’s biography considered here is a case in point. The impact of this Bambara Islamic literature is discussed, alongside its implications upon local representations and reconfigurations of Islamic knowledge

    Relationship South-North in a postcolonial context with Alain Mabanckou ABSTRACT: Starting from the problematic which tries to raise the question of the relationship between Black and White people, and also the reason that underlies such a relationship, this article attempts to bring elements of answer to a broad questioning from two novels by Alain Mabanckou: Black Bazar (Black Bazaar) and Tais-toi et meurs (Shut up and die). The article analyzes the relationship between Black and White people in a postcolonial context, which manifests itself in a relationship of tension, rejection of the other, but also with intimacy and greed. The Africa/Europe encounter, having been made under dramatic conditions that lowered the Black to the rank of animal, devoid of any faculty of reasoning, some White men continue to see the Black men with the same gaze of inferior human beings. For the analysis, and to clearly define the field of the study, we rely on work in the field of postcolonial studies in order to achieve more effective results. RÉSUMÉ: A partir de la problématique qui tente de soulever la question du rapport entre le Noir et le Blanc, et aussi le pourquoi d’un tel rapport, cet article tente d’apporter des éléments de réponse à un large questionnement à partir de deux romans d’Alain Mabanckou : Black bazar et Tais-toi et meurs. L’article analyse les rapports entre Noir et Blanc dans un contexte postcolonial, qui se déclinent en rapport de tension, de rejet de l’autre, mais aussi d’intimité et de convoitise. La rencontre Afrique/Europe ayant été faite dans les conditions dramatiques qui rabaissaient le Noir au rang de l’animal, dépourvu de toute faculté de raisonnement, certains Blancs continuent de voir le Noir avec ce même regard d’être inférieur. Pour l’analyse, et pour bien cerner le champ de l’étude, on s’appuie sur les travaux dans le domaine des études postcoloniales afin d’aboutir à des résultats plus efficaces      

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Amour et tabou dans le roman populaire malien : Amour Haram d’Aramata Diawara et L’Union interdite d’Ouleï Ba

    Cet article qui analyse deux romans populaires maliens tente de répondre à trois questions essentielles relatives à l’intérêt du roman populaire, les sujets spécifiques qu’il traite et ses frontières avec le roman canonique. Il montre que le roman populaire malien répond aux mêmes critères esthétiques que les autres romans de cette catégorie qu’on peut trouver sous d’autres cieux. Amour Haram d’Aramata Diawara et L’Union interdite d’Ouleï Ba marquent l’évolution significative du roman sentimental malien, en ce sens qu’ils proposent une poétique où les frontières entre le roman dit « lettré » et celui dit « populaire » deviennent parfois difficiles à tracer. Ces romans mettent non seulement en scène la crise politique que connaît le Mali depuis plusieurs années, mais décrivent aussi un problème social majeur : le tabou et sa transgression

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
