    A novel hazard avoidance model based on young drivers’ characteristics: A driving simulator study

    This paper aims to examine the key factors influencing young drivers’ hazard avoidance in Iran. In this study, a hazard avoidance index is defined and calculated for investigating the effect of impulsiveness, behavioral, and psychological characteristics on driving hazard avoidance. A questionnaire and go-no-go and flanker computer tests as well as a driving simulator are used for collecting data from 173 Iranian drivers under the age of 30. For this purpose, different scenarios were used, such as pedestrian crossing, the presence of fixed obstacles, and animals crossing the road, whose various characteristics are also changed. Structural equation modeling and the partial least squares method are applied for investigating the relationship between different variables and the hazard avoidance index. The results show that the driver hazard avoidance index is mostly affected by variables such as inhibitory control, opposite directional response, attentional impulsiveness, motion impulsiveness, non-planning impulsiveness, disregarding the law, and lapses and error. The results could help policymakers to assess diving hazard avoidance and improve training programs related to traffic safety based on the variables that are more effective on inexperienced and novice drivers’ hazard avoidanceSpecial thanks should be expressed to Ali Nahvi, and their employees, who helped build simulation scenarios and assess hazard avoidance in the driving simulator in the virtual reality laboratory of Khajeh Nasir al-Din Toosi University.     Quantifying the environmental impact on individuals' well-being in risk analysis

    Catastrophes, such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion, exemplify how accidents that damage the environment affect society in ways that exceed human and property losses. Environmental damages caused by disasters are often continuous, influencing a broader portion of society, and might continually affect future generations moreso than the acute impacts associated with human health risks. As this paper demonstrates, policies in the United States and abroad affirm the importance of protecting the environment as a common asset for current and future members of society. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a required common tool implemented by decision-makers to analyze the environmental impacts of their actions. Analysts around the world use various methods and techniques to assess the impacts of human actions on the environment. However, the effect of environmental impacts on individuals’ well-being is not sufficiently assessed in current EIA methodologies. Although current methodologies discuss how the environment may be changed by a particular human action, the scholarship does not sufficiently address questions related to how the affected environment can change human life. In response, this paper aims to improve the completeness of EIA methodologies by proposing a capability approach for assessing the effect of environmental impacts on humans’ well-being. Two human capabilities are specified to explicitly address the environmental impacts of human actions.     City in Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations and Morteza Moshfeq Kazemi’s Tehran-e Makhuf (The Horrible Tehran): A Comparative Study

    Setting in literature has long been a prominent issue in literary evaluations. The systematic concern with setting and space dates back to the time Aristotle first discussed the concept of "spectacle" in his Poetics, deeming it essential to the formation of a proper tragedy. Today, spatial studies frequently acknowledge Charles Dickens as one of the greatest observers of the operation of the city in the novel. His foremost novel, Great Expectations, depicts modernity and the social hardships of the time in the form of a love story bringing the plot in close proximity with Morteza Moshfeq Kazemi’s novel Tehran-e Makhuf .This article focuses on the scrutinizing of the creation of social spaces in these two novels through the utilization of Henri Lefebvre’s theory of space as an active production of each society. The concern with space and city and their function is further reflected in the section “City, Space, and Society,," followed in more detail in the section “The City.” In the section “Society, and the Background of the Author,” and the one after, “The Portrayal of the Two Cities and Social Space,” the cities envisioned are observed apropos of the image created, its relationship to the narrative, and social relations. Consequently it is proposed that the cities produced by these two novels are not essentially objects, but rather, the city is a product of that society-- dominating and producing the society itself through its active production by the witnesses

The article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. The journal was notified of possible image duplication. An investigation by the editorial office confirmed that the publication contained duplicated images in Figs. 3 and 6, as well as duplications with figures from other publications (https://doi.org/10.1002/mabi.202200574 and https://doi.org/10.1021/acsabm.3c00814). While the corresponding author initially collaborated with the investigation, they were unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the image duplications, leading the editors to lose trust in the integrity of the presented data. Additionally, concerns about authorship have been raised, as two co-authors (Morteza Koruji and Ali Mohammad Sharifi) have stated that they never consented to being listed as authors on the submission and were not consulted by the corresponding author.     Beyond Industry 4.0 : a systematic review of Industry 5.0 technologies and implications for social, environmental and economic sustainability

    Purpose: The study seeks to understand the possible opportunities that Industry 5.0 might offer for various aspects of inclusive sustainability. The study aims to discuss existing perspectives on the classification of Industry 5.0 technologies and their underlying role in materializing the sustainability values of this agenda. Design/methodology/approach: The study systematically reviewed Industry 5.0 literature based on the PRISMA protocol. The study further employed a detailed content-centric review of eligible documents and conducted evidence mapping to fulfill the research objectives. Findings: The advancement of Industry 5.0 is currently underway, with noteworthy initial contributions enriching its knowledge base. Although a unanimous definition remains lacking, diverse viewpoints emerge concerning the recognition of fundamental technologies and the potential for yielding sustainable outcomes. The expected contribution of Industry 5.0 to sustainability varies significantly depending on the context and the nature of underlying technologies. Practical implications: Industry 5.0 holds the potential for advancing sustainability at both the firm and supply chain levels. It is envisioned to contribute proportionately to the three sustainability dimensions. However, the current discourse primarily dwells in theoretical and conceptual domains, lacking empirical exploration of its practical implications. Originality/value: This study comprehensively explores diverse perspectives on Industry 5.0 technologies and their potential contributions to economic, environmental and social sustainability. Despite its promise, the practical evidence supporting the effectiveness of Industry 5.0 remains limited. Certain conditions are necessary to realize the benefits of Industry 5.0 fully, yet the mechanisms behind these conditions require further investigation.     Which Threshold Concepts do Computing Students Encounter while Learning Empirical Research Methods?

    A strong foundation in empirical research methods is essential for computing students due to the societal impacts of digital technologies. However, learning empirical research is challenging because of a lack of a research-based approach and the absence of an established pedagogical culture for teaching empirical research methods. In this paper, we ask the research question: Which Threshold Concepts (TCs) do computing students encounter while learning empirical research methods? First, we conducted a systematic mapping review of the literature to identify the candidate TCs in learning empirical research methods. Next, we evaluated the candidate TCs in an explanatory case study of an introductory course in research methods offered to master’s students at the Department of Computer Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). We found that a particularly challenging and overarching TC may be developing and operationalizing a conceptual framework, and many other TCs can be linked to the conceptual framework. We also found that it can be difficult for computing students to grasp the nature of research and how empirical research is done. These findings may help understand student challenges while learning empirical research methods and developing solutions to address these challenges.publishedVersio

    The interplay of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) within the agroclimatic domain is pivotal for addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change on agriculture. This paper embarks on a systematic review to dissect the current utilization of ML and DL in agricultural research, with a pronounced emphasis on agroclimatic impacts and adaptation strategies. Our investigation reveals a dominant reliance on conventional ML models and uncovers a critical gap in the documentation of methodologies. This constrains the replicability, scalability, and adaptability of these technologies in agroclimatic research. In response to these challenges, we advocate for a strategic pivot toward Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) frameworks. AutoML not only simplifies and standardizes the model development process but also democratizes ML expertise, thereby catalyzing the advancement in agroclimatic research. The incorporation of AutoML stands to significantly enhance research scalability, adaptability, and overall performance, ushering in a new era of innovation in agricultural practices tailored to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This paper underscores the untapped potential of AutoML in revolutionizing agroclimatic research, propelling forward the development of sustainable and efficient agricultural solutions that are responsive to the evolving climate dynamics
