No full text© 2020, The Author(s). New physics opportunities are opening up by the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array, AGATA, as it evolves to the full 4π instrument. AGATA is a high-resolution γ-ray spectrometer, solely built from highly segmented high-purity Ge detectors, capable of measuring γ rays from a few tens of keV to beyond 10 MeV, with unprecedented efficiency, excellent position resolution for individual γ-ray interactions, and very high count-rate capability. As a travelling detector AGATA will be employed at all major current and near-future European research facilities delivering stable and radioactive ion beams

As an inspiration, the author presents the forms of support that have been developed on the basis of social work, activism and theatre pedagogy. The article is based on in-depth interviews with practitioners of engaging theatre who represent various theatre environments and professions, and on the knowledge Siwiak gained through her own theatre practices as part of the research-based practice methodology (the author is also a performance arts curator)

No full textThe author reflects on theoretical dilemmas and on her subjective experiences in doing a medical anthropological study that aims to be scientifically valid, practically applied, and socio-politically engaged.
To this purpose, the article discusses data collected in two Italian cities: Bari (southern Italy) in 2009, and Casale Monferrato (northern Italy), in 2012. Both the contexts have been affected by social and environmental disasters related to the presence of two asbestos-cement plants, active until the end of the 1980s: the Fibronit and the Eternit factories, respectively.
First, historical and social contextualization of legislation and epidemiological data about asbestos manufacturing are briefly provided, both for the national and the international settings, in order to better situate the actions of socio-political engagement undertaken by the victims organised into local anti-asbestos social movements whose goals and practices have national and international resonance.
Second, the author offers a general overview of asbestos’ characteristics as a raw material, and of the political-economic dynamics promoting its massive industrial use, despite the fact that biomedical studies have recognised asbestos fibres as cancer causing factors as far back as the 1960s.
Third, the author refers to anthropological and sociological literatures on risk perception and on the disaster’s processes in order to better understand the peculiarities of the asbestos-related disasters.
Lastly, the anthropologist’s engagement with the investigated issues is discussed, and a parallelism between contamination and engagement is offered by looking at a process in which the scientist and the research partners collaborate to promote new knowledge and socio-political changes

No full textInternational audienceThis study investigates how information provided prior to the application stage of the selection process affects application intentions toward the job and organization. Existing research has focused on applicants who have already entered into the selection process; however, information revealed prior to application may cause candidates to self-select themselves out of the process. Utilizing a randomized experimental design, participants read a job ad specifying that their prerecorded interviews would be reviewed by a human or an artificial intelligence based evaluator. The results show increased intentions to apply and pursue the job in the human evaluation condition
Character at Work: A Virtues Approach to Creativity and Emotion Regulation
No full textThe study of character strengths is a promising new approach available to positive psychology in its campaign to focus on the positive aspects of people, work and society, and encourage individuals to thrive in all aspects of their lives. Character strengths have been linked to satisfaction with life, but no previous work has investigated how these positive aspects of individuals lead to greater life satisfaction. The current work investigates how different combinations of character strengths, termed strength profiles, predict the use of two emotion regulation strategies, cognitive reappraisal and emotional suppression. Also investigated was the ability of these strength profiles to predict associative creativity, positive and negative affect, and life satisfaction. A sample of 205 students was used. Participants completed the Virtues in Action survey of character strengths, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. An experimental design was employed to investigate the effects of positive and negative emotions on performance on a task requiring associative creativity, the Remote Associates Test. Furthermore, the relationship between character strengths and emotion regulation strategy was investigated. Character strengths predicted cognitive reappraisal as a preferred method of emotion regulation. Character strengths also positively predicted positive affect, negatively predicted negative affect, and were positively associated with satisfaction with life. Additionally, cognitive reappraisal mediated the relationship between a profile designed to up-regulate positive emotions and self-reports of positive emotions. Results were compared for the proposed strength profiles and Peterson and Seligman's (2004) original six virtues. Differences in predictive ability between the strength profiles and virtues are highlighted. How Does the Stage of a Contract Affect Performance: Evidence from Professional Basketball
No full textThis study uses theories of motivation to analyze how performance changes over the life of a contract. Utilizing performance data for professional basketball players in the NBA for three seasons, the results show that performance does change over the life of a contract. Factors affecting how much control a player has over his performance are found to be important in how the players' performance changes as the contract completion nears
