With the aim of thinking about the history of the left, this article proposes an approach to some aspects of the term left as a political concept. The author highlights that such experiences, always plural, articulate a relational component (linked to the representative scene but also to the democratic one), a positional one (as an expression of emancipations) and, generally, an identity component (crystallizations in times of depoliticization). In turn, a history of the left implies a reflection on the historiographical task itself, insofar as it cannot be excluded from the historical conflicts that this concept names

Signs of Memory: Le Corbusier’s Drawings at Villa E.1027
Design, beauty, the ethical question, aesthetics: all these terms are present in the story of Le Corbusier's drawings on the walls of Eileen Gray's villa E1027. Seven drawings were painted by Le Corbusier on the interior and exterior walls without her knowledge. They are drawings of considerable size and in very vivid colours and the author is undoubtedly one of the people who changed the culture of the 20th century. On the other hand, Gray's villa is also considered today one of the masterpieces of modern architecture: it is essential in its lines and colours and every detail has been carefully thought out and designed. The situation that arose with the inclusion of Le Corbusier's wall paintings poses many questions for those involved in Restoration. According to some lines of thought every intervention is a trace and as such it has its own meaning it tells a piece of history and as such it deserves to be preserved. In this specific case, however, Le Corbusier's brightly coloured drawings completely change the perception of the villa's spaces. In this case the preservation of a trace, no matter how significant it may be, has the power to change and cause the loss of the basic idea of this villa: preservation causes loss. This story therefore brings an important reflection on the role of conservation, on the ethics of restoration and also on the power that a drawing on a wall can have
Le "Dictionnaire National" de Bescherelle: notes sur la synonymie et le vocabulaire politique
Within the vast lexicographic production of the first half of the nineteenth century, the Dictionnaire national de Bescherelle is a noteworthy example of an extensive work offering extremely rich vocabulary coverage. Although historical linguists have occasionally expressed disapproval of the dictionary, one cannot overlook the importance to both readers and contemporary writers of this lexicographic repertoire – one of the most frequently perused at the time. In order to highlight some of its outstanding merits, two main features have been given special attention in this study: firstly, the treatment of synonyms, that has been compared with other coeval dictionaries; secondly, a careful analysis of its political vocabulary, maxims, quotations and aphorisms has shed some light on the evolution of the way of thinking of the author and his age
The problems of democracy and democracy as a problem
The author analyzes some aspects of the debates on democracy in the so-called transition of the '80s, in order to warn about the preeminence acquired by procedural and representative dispositions -raised to a meta-normative condition- and the conceptualization of politics as the production of consensus. These orientations prevented a recovery of the democratic experiences that the dictatorship tried to cancel, and were unable to focus on the figures of subjectivity that state terror and neoliberalism produced as interventions on the social fabric. Finally, the author briefly discusses some democratizing political experiences, as forms of emergence of the peoples in the last 40 years.Fil: Pittaluga, Roberto. Universidad Nacional de La Plata. The article examines the narrative structure of the anonymous play Paedia, with great
attention to the «informative» and «programmatic» prologue and to the pedagogical intentions of the author in accordance with others plays of the XVth centur
Experimental implementation of Twin-Field Quantum Key Distribution Protocols
Quantum Key Distribution allows two distant users to establish a common secret string of bits by sending photons across a communication line, often an optical fibre. The photons, however, are scattered by the propagation medium and have only a small probability of reaching the end of the line, which limits the QKD key rate and its transmission range. A rigorous theorem limits the number of secure bits delivered by a point-to-point QKD link to 1.44η, with η being the channel transmission probability. This is known as the ‘repeaterless secret key capacity’, or the PLOB bound. The key question at the core of this thesis is to design and implement QKD systems that surpass the PLOB bound.
Until very recently, this task was believed to be impossible with today’s technology. This changed with the introduction of the ‘Twin-Field’ (TF) QKD protocol, which features a key rate that scales proportionally to the square root of η and therefore offers a way to extend the current range of QKD.
This work provides a contextualisation and description of the TF-QKD protocol and its variants. The experimental challenges for its implementation are considered and followed by the development of experimental techniques, setups and analysis frameworks necessary to implement the protocol.
As a result, the first proof-of-principle demonstration of the protocol over highly attenuated channels is obtained and described. In this experiment, a secure key could be distributed in excess of 90 dB channel loss and the PLOB bound could be exceeded for the first time. The setup implemented for this experiment is currently considered the first realisation of an effective quantum repeater.
A second experiment, which exploits a novel dual-band phase stabilisation technique, is also developed. In this experiment, TF-QKD is performed over long communication channels that reached over 600 km of fibre length and 100 dB of channel loss. This experiment represents today’s longest fibre-based quantum communication system
Background discrimination techniques using Artificial Neural Networks for the GERDA experiment
The aim of this thesis is to perform an analysis of Signal recognition and Background rejection to outline a framework for data analysis based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) suitable to the discrimination of samples from the GERDA experiment.
More precisely, this work will focus on setting up an ANN that, through Pulse Shape Analysis techniques, can recognize a possible 0vbb decay from background events
