Capping and gate control of anomalous Hall effect and hump structure in ultra-thin SrRuO3 films
© 2021 Author(s).Ferromagnetism and exotic topological structures in SrRuO3 (SRO) induce sign-changing anomalous Hall effect (AHE). Recently, hump structures have been reported in the Hall resistivity of SRO thin films, especially in the ultra-thin regime. We investigate the AHE and hump structure in the Hall resistivity of SRO ultra-thin films with an SrTiO3 (STO) capping layer and ionic liquid gating. STO capping results in sign changes in the AHE and modulation of the hump structure. In particular, the hump structure in the Hall resistivity is strongly modulated and even vanishes in STO-capped 4 unit cell films. In addition, the conductivity of STO-capped SRO ultra-thin films is greatly enhanced with restored ferromagnetism. We also performed ionic liquid gating to modulate the electric field at SRO/STO interface. Drastic changes in the AHE and hump structure are observed with different gate voltages. Electronic structures of CO adsorbed Pt-skin surface on Pt–Co and Pt–Ni alloys
© 2021 Korean Physical SocietyBy using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we investigate the electronic structures of Pt-skin layer of Pt–Co and Pt–Ni alloys with CO molecules on the surface. Measured Fermi surface maps and band dispersions reflect the signatures of chemical bonding between Pt-skin layer and CO molecules. Furthermore, the degree of chemical bonding strength of CO molecules, estimated from the energy shift of the participating bands, is found to be reduced on both Pt bimetallic alloys. Our results show how the surface band structure of Pt bimetallic alloys is modified with molecular orbitals of CO molecules on the surface, revealing the important role of the electronic structure in the determination of chemical properties of bimetallic alloys.11Nsciescopuskc
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Electric Control of 2D Van Hove Singularity in Oxide Ultra-Thin Films
Divergent density of states (DOS) can induce extraordinary phenomena such as significant enhancement of superconductivity and unexpected phase transitions. Moreover, van Hove singularities (VHSs) lead to divergent DOS in 2D systems. Despite recent interest in VHSs, only a few controllable cases have been reported to date. In this work, by utilizing an atomically ultra-thin SrRuO3 film, the electronic structure of a 2D VHS is investigated with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and transport properties are controlled. By applying electric fields with alkali metal deposition and ionic-liquid gating methods, the 2D VHS and the sign of the charge carrier are precisely controlled. Use of a tunable 2D VHS in an atomically flat oxide film could serve as a new strategy to realize infinite DOS near the Fermi level, thereby allowing efficient tuning of electric properties. © 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.11Nsciescopu
Immunomodulatory effects of β-1,3/1,6-glucan and lactic acid bacteria in LP-BM5 murine leukemia viruses-induced murine acquired immune deficiency syndrome
In this study, β-1,3/1,6-glucan, lactic acid bacteria, and β-1,3/1,6-glucan+lactic acid bacteria were tested for 10 weeks using an immunodeficient animal model infected with LP-BM5 murine AIDS virus On the immune activity. Cytokines production, plasma immunoglobulin concentration, T cell and B cell proliferation were measured. As a result, the T cell proliferative capacity which was weakened by immunization with LP-BM5 murine AIDS virus increased significantly T cell proliferative capacity compared with the red ginseng control group. B cell proliferative capacity was significantly higher than the infected control group. Increased B cell proliferation was reduced. In the cytokine production, IL-2, IL-12 and IL-15 in the Th1-type cytokine increased the secretion of IL-2, IL-12 and IL-15 compared to the infected control. The proliferative capacity of the treated group was higher than that of the mixed treatment group. TNF-a was significantly decreased compared with the infected control group. The IL-4, IL-6 and IL-10 levels were significantly inhibited in the infected control group and the Th1/Th2 type cytokine expression was regulated by immunohistochemistry. IgE, IgA, and IgG levels were significantly lower in the immunoglobulin secretion assay than in the control. As a result, the immunomodulatory effect of β-1,3/1,6-glucan+lactic acid bacteria was confirmed by mixing with LP-BM5 murine AIDS virus-infected immunodeficient animal model
Lifshitz-transition-driven metal-insulator transition in moderately spin-orbit-coupled Sr2-xLaxRhO4
© 2019 American Physical Society.Motivated by the novel insulating state of Sr2IrO4 from strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC), we investigate, by means of angle resolved photoemission, the metal-insulator transition (MIT) mechanism in Sr2-xLaxRhO4 whose mother compound is isovalent and isostructural but has smaller SOC strength compared to Sr2IrO4. Transport and angle resolved photoemission results from single crystalline Sr2-xLaxRhO4 revealed that the MIT occurs coincidentally with a multi-to single-band transition (Lifshitz transition) at x=0.4. Starting from x=0.4, there is a gradual but anomalous enhancement in the band gap size with additional electron doping, suggesting that the insulating phase in Sr2-xLaxRhO4 is a new type which has been rarely investigated. These results suggest that the insulating phase in Sr2-xLaxRhO4 is likely induced by the moderate SOC strength and electron doping effect from the La. Our findings not only elucidate the MIT mechanism in Sr2-xLaxRhO4, but may also open new avenues for novel MIT research in moderate SOC regimes11sciescopu
