The mini clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX) for assessing clinical performance of international medical graduates
Abstract Objective: To evaluate the feasibility, reliability and acceptability of the mini clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX) for performance assessment among international medical graduates (IMGs). Design, setting and participants: Observational study of 209 patient encounters involving 28 IMGs and 35 examiners at three metropolitan teaching hospitals in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, September-December 2006. Main outcome measures: The reliability of the mini-CEX was estimated using generalisability (G) analysis, and its acceptability was evaluated by a written survey of the examiners and IMGs. Results: The G coefficient for eight encounters was 0.88, suggesting that the reliability of the mini-CEX was 0.90 for 10 encounters. Almost half of the IMGs (7/16) and most examiners (14/18) were satisfied with the mini-CEX as a learning tool. Most of the IMGs and examiners enjoyed the immediate feedback, which is a strong component of the tool. Conclusion: The mini-CEX is a reliable tool for performance assessment of IMGs, and is acceptable to and well received by both learners and supervisors.Full Tex
PSYNDEX Tests Review für Mini-SCL - Mini-Symptom-Checklist
This is a PSYNDEX Tests Review of Mini-SCL - Mini-Symptom-Checklist. PSYNDEX Tests Reviews are written in German and describe and evaluate psychological and educational tests used in the German-speaking countries. PSYNDEX Tests is offered by the Leibniz Institute for Psychology as open access documentation.
Association of the HLA-G 3′UTR polymorphisms with colorectal cancer in Italy: A first insight
This study aimed to explore functional and regulatory polymorphisms and haplotypes at the HLA-G 3′UTR region in colorectal cancer development. The presence of nonpolymorphic variants was also evaluated. Three-hundred and eight patients with colorectal cancer and 294 healthy controls were analysed at the germinal level. We found an association with increased risk of colorectal cancer for +2960 14-bp INDEL, +3196 C>G SNPs and UTR-2 haplotype, and a 'protective' role for +3003 T>C, +3010 C>G polymorphisms and UTR-4 haplotype. We detected in 3 distinct patients, a novel nucleotide change (+3037 C>A) and 2 already described rare variants, +3032 G/C (EUR MAF=0.1%) and +3092G/T (EUR MAF=0%). This is the first study showing associations between different polymorphisms in the HLA-G 3′UTR and colorectal cancer susceptibility

Corporate social responsibility: A psychosocial multidimensional construct
Purpose – Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is conceptualized as the construct describing the relationship between companies and society. Although scholars reached an agreement about the linkages between CSR in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and psychosocial issues – social identity, organizational culture and commitment – it is still a problematic issue how CSR should be defined and how companies could behave as socially responsible. The authors hypothesize that
psychosocial processes impact the activation of CSR. Within a psychological perspective, the purpose of this paper is to explore CSR definitions and CSR psychosocial dimensions.
Design/methodology/approach – According to an emic perspective oriented at in-depth comprehension of phenomena, the authors adopted the grounded theory methodology to collect, analyze and discuss the data. In total, 14 entrepreneurs and 12 employees of Italian-Apulian SMEs
were interviewed on three thematic areas: organizational culture; sense of community; and CSR. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed through qualitative content analysis.
Findings – Results showed that: CSR definitions were continuously mediated by participants’ organizational culture; and perspective taking, care taking and sustainable practices emerged as the salient CSR psychosocial components, correspondent to its cognitive, affective and behavioral
dimensions.
Practical implications – The paper argues that CSR sychosocial components could be the strategic variables to develop and to manage CSR in organizations.
Originality/value – CSR is re-conceptualized as a psychosocial multidimensional construct, explaining its dynamic activation in organizations. The authors suggest that the cognitive and affective dimensions are antecedent to the behavioral dimension. Thus, the authors are developing a
CSR psychosocial scale to study the linkages among these dimensions and other variables through quantitative analysis method
