Ranko Marinković in Czech translations
This work deals with the literary production of Croatian author Ranko Marinković and surveys primarily his publications released in Czech language. The biggest part presents two most important translations - the collection of short stories Ruce (The Hands) and the novel Kyklop (The Cyclops)
Plain Revelation: Reader’s Introduction to The Apocalypse
In today\u27s world, no other part of the Bible inspires so much interest, speculation, sensationalism, and confusion as the book of Revelation. This seems strange for a book that claims to be a revelation of Jesus Christ. But it doesn\u27t have to be that way. In this concise reader\u27s introduction, Revelation expert Dr. Ranko Stefanovic makes it all plain and simple.
In a straight-forward, no nonsense way, the author leads us chapter by chapter, section by section, scene by scene, through this amazing panorama of cosmic war and glory. And through it all, we see the astounding picture of a Creator God who wins it all with justice and love when Jesus Christ is plainly revealed as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.https://digitalcommons.andrews.edu/sem-books/1023/thumbnail.jp
Short story "Embranchment" by Ranko Marinković
The topic of this final work is short story Embranchment by Ranko Marinković. At the very beginning, Ranko Marinković's life and work will be presented with a special focus on the novellas and collection of short storys Hands, in which the Embranchment is published. In the central part, a short story will be analyzed and multiplicity of the interpretations will be addressed. The first part will be the reference layer of the short story and will briefly recount the fable, characterize the characters of the short story and draw attention to the importance Marinković attaches to the language. The second part will discuss the importance of the symbols in Embranchment, the allegorical interpretation of the short story, the importance that Marinković attaches to reality and art, and to present Embranchment as the short story that shows author in the process of creating a literature. This brings us to the third layer, which is a '' literature about literature''. If we look at the work in this context, we come to the conclusion that Embranchment is a modernist type of prose. Through the chapter on the elements of modernism in this short story, it will briefly summarize the whole work and make a conclusion
Self-referentiality in Ranko Marinković's narrative fiction
podrazumijeva vjeru u moć autora i teksta, prelazi u postmodernističku
koja kulminira u noveli Zagrljaj, u romanima Zajednička kupka i Never more javlja se
postmodernistička ironija, koju obilježava svijest o nemoći i autora i teksta. Autora
istovremeno i referencijalan i autoreferencijalan.
autoreferencijalnih i metatekstualnih komenatara pokazuje kako jedna paradigma
smjenjuje drugu, odnosno kako modernizam prelazi u postmodernizam.
Znanstveno istraživanje provedeno u ovom radu pridonosi razumijevanju
kompleksnoga Marinkovića djela s obzirom na ključnu temu rada, odnosno na
interakciju autorske svijesti i implicitnoga čitatelja te potkrjepljuje tvrdnju o mjestu
Marinkovićeva opusa u poetičkom međuprostoru između modernizma i
postmodernizma. This dissertation investigates the self-referential quality of Ranko Marinković's
narrative fiction by focusing on its two levels – modernist and postmodern. In other
words, Marinković's narrative works are read with the purpose of analysing how
modernist self-referentiality, which implies faith in both the author's and the text's
power, translates into postmodern self-referentiality, which expresses distrust in that
same power while simultaneously questioning literature's social status.
The dissertation argues that Ranko Marinković's narrative fiction is
characterized by the diachronic progression of authorial self-awareness which also
pertains to the diachronic transition of Marinković's narrative fiction from its modernist
footing to postmodernism. The author is thus particulary interested in the relationship
between art and life, namely the paradoxical quality of literary text which is at the same
time referential and self-referential. This questioning results in a self-ironic perspective:
Marinković's narrative fiction employs ironic, grotesque and ludic self-referentiality
which takes on the form of self-referential and metatextual commentary, particulary in
the two metanarrative texts, thus demonstrating how one paradigme supplants antoher,
namely how modernism translates into postmodernism
Ranko Mladenović author of the proposed Regulation on theatres of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia
Avant-garde poet, literary critic and journalist Ranko Mladenović (Klisura,
June 28, 1892 – Belgrade, January 6, 1943) left a significant mark on the theater
life of Serbia in the period between the two world wars. He proved himself as a
playwright, translator, theater critic, historian and theoretician, and his activity
was particularly related to the National Theater in Belgrade, of which he was a
member on several occasions, in different positions.
However, it is little known that Mladenović was very dedicated to issues of
legal regulations on the theater on several occasions. Immediately after the end
of the Great War and the establishment of a new state, the Kingdom of Serbs,
Croats and Slovenes (later the Kingdom of Yugoslavia), there was a need for a
unified law that would regulate the work of theaters throughout the country,
their tasks and goals, the relationship of the state to the theater, social issues of
artists and other employees... On two occasions (1931 and 1939), Mladenović
appeared publicly in the Belgrade press with articles about the then unsustain
able situation, which equated the theater with any state institution, and artists
with officials. Then he himself wrote the proposal of the Regulation on the theaters of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (the manuscript of this document is kept
in the Museum of Theater Arts of Serbia), which shows his knowledge of the
essence and nature of theater, its specificities and needs. The further fate of this
proposal is unknown; the official proposal submitted to the Ministry of Education by the Actors’ Association in 1940 had many similarities, but also differences. The Second World War hindered the possible adoption of this law, and Serbia has not received an adequate Theater Law even to this day.
Medieval and Earlymodern Fortifications of Koprivnica
In this paper, the author used an analysis of all previous reconstructions performed on Koprivnica’s fortifications, and published documents at hand, as the basis for an attempt to make a step further in portraying what these fortifications might have looked like in the past.
In the first part, the author cited 8 different artists that sketched the historic fortifications in Koprivnica. All sketches and drawings were accompanied with brief commentaries. Using this as pretext for further elaboration, in the second part the author presented blueprints of Koprivnica’s strongholds, dating from mid 16th to mid 17th century period. More attention was paid to early blueprints and sketches, as they had witnessed a previous, older situation, and provided an insight into the buildings of the bastion fort. Nine blueprints have been analyzed with the very first, small bastions built in, still preserved castle, and four blueprints with large bastions built in all four corners.
The next chapter probes into the development of Koprivnica’s fortifications from the early 16th century records. We have recognized three medieval phases of this development and a proper analysis of everything in the later blueprints that might have been medieval (for example, barbican, the outer trench rampart around the town etc.). It’s followed by description of building process on Koprivnica’s fortifications, in 1550s to 1560s (the author calls them the In-Between phase). Then, the object of investigation is moved to fortification with large bastions, the building of which took from 1570s to mid 17th century. Each phase is represented and back up with available data, and the author presented what the fortifications might have looked like. Finally, the author shares some thoughts on possible new research of Koprivnica’s fortifications and on the potentials, that the work of historians and archeologists is used in educational and promotional purposes
Gordova i Kontovec - dva vlastelinstva na području Grubišnog Polja
This paper analyzes the data on medieval properties Gordova and Kontovec, highlighting their topography. The author attempts to reconstruct the area of these two properties, with its habitats, churches, and fortifications. The area around Grubišno Polje lost most of its medieval toponymy and so the portrayal of the status it used to have is only partially possible.U radu se analiziraju podaci o srednjovjekovnim vlastelinstvima Gordovi i Kontovcu s naglaskom na njihovoj topografiji.
In this paper, the author speaks of Serbian primary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina and of the founding of Serbian Primary School in Visoko during the Ottoman reign. The author then speaks of School’s history during Austro-Hungarian occupation until the beginning of the First World War. The goal of this paper is to preserve the remembrance of Visoko’s educational tradition and to remind the readers of the struggle for establishing and opening first Serbian schools in Bosnia
Field induced changes in the ring/chain equilibrium of hydrogen bonded structures: 5-methyl-3-heptanol
abstract: Using non-linear dielectric techniques, we have measured the dynamics of 5-methyl-3-heptanol at a temperature at which the Kirkwood correlation factor g[subscript K] indicates the coexistence of ring- and chain-like hydrogen-bonded structures. Steady state permittivity spectra recorded in the presence of a high dc bias electric field (17 MV/m) reveal that both the amplitude and the time constant are increased by about 10% relative to the low field limit. This change is attributed to the field driven conversion from ring-like to the more polar chain-like structures, and a direct observation of its time dependence shows that the ring/chain structural transition occurs on a time scale that closely matches that of the dielectric Debye peak. This lends strong support to the picture that places fluctuations of the end-to-end vector of hydrogen bonded structures at the origin of the Debye process, equivalent to fluctuations of the net dipole moment or g[subscript K]. Recognizing that changes in the ring/chain equilibrium constant also impact the spectral separation between Debye and α-process may explain the difference in their temperature dependence whenever g[subscript K] is sensitive to temperature, i.e., when the structural motifs of hydrogen bonding change considerably. This article may be downloaded for personal use only. On the onomastic method (with examples from Celtic onomastics)
In this paper the author discusses the criteria for attributing certain names to Celtic, or other poorly attested, or reconstructed, languages. The clear and unambiguous formulation of such criteria help us in the identification of Celtic onomastic elements. These methodological problems are discussed with respect to the examples of allegedly Celtic toponyms and anthroponyms from the Roman province of Illyricum
