Inter-organizational ethnography
Olivier Berthod, Michael Grothe-Hammer, and Jörg Sydow report an unconventional research design using multi-site ethnography. The aim is to study inter-organizational relationships, which are not well understood, and are not addressed by single-site ethnographic methods. Ethnography is a popular and established methodology in organization studies. However, organizing is a process that crosses boundaries, and the traditional approach that involves immersing the ethnographer in one defined social or organizational setting means that inter-organizational phenomena are overlooked. The challenge is to conduct fieldwork at multiple sites, across which inter-organizational relations may be conducted with varying degrees of formality, and be more or less visible. Inter-organizational ethnography thus builds on the combination of several techniques. Four techniques are explored: following boundary objects, capturing network enactments, using several investigators, and repeat interviews. The methodology is illustrated with a study of the network of eighty organizations that deal with large-scale crises and emergencies in Düsseldorf.</p
This master's thesis is based on the former municipality Viken and their measures for an increased focus on sustainability within the organization. The measures introduced in the municipality are based on the UN's sustainability goals, and have been implemented with the aim of, among other things, increased knowledge about assessments of one's own work compared to the sustainability dimensions and impact assessments. The purpose of this master's thesis is to investigate how sustainable initiatives and public administration are implemented and carried out, as well as the corresponding consequences. Furthermore, this master's thesis examines the attitudes and opinions of former employees in the municipality Viken regarding the implementation and implementation of the measures Bærekraftskurset (Sustainability Course) and Bærekraftsjekken (Sustainability Check). From the findings of the thesis, it becomes clear which priorities, attitudes and perceptions exist in the municipality . It was also shed light on which priorities are made at an individual level in relation to the sustainability measures and their opinion on the intended effects of the measures both in Viken municipality and in the newly established municipalities of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold.
In order to investigate the thesis' overall theme, a qualitative method with an inductive research design has been used, where the thesis' theoretical framework is derived from findings from the data collection. The master's thesis data has been collected through eight semi-structured in-depth interviews with former employees of Viken Municipality. Documents have also been used in the thesis as secondary data with the aim of triangulation. The research is based on an inductive method, and for the analysis of data material a combination of thematic analysis and Gioia's methodology has been used.
Based on the collected data seen in the context of the thesis' theoretical framework, there are indications in Viken municipality of a decoupling between the introduced policy and the daily practice (policy-practice). Furthermore, the analysis of the data suggests that the introduction of the measures was largely symbolic, and functioned as a response to external demands from the environment. By reflecting on the surrounding inconsistencies, the legitimacy of the municipality is strengthened
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
You watch, that the maniac finishes in time.” On the balance of power between the director and production manager in film projects
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
