The purpose of this article is to analyse from a political philosophy perspective the project outlined by the leader of one of the radical movements during mid-seventeenth century England, Gerrard Winstanley. The aim is to explain how some concepts linked to the classical characteristics of the Modern State are interwoven into his political proposals, going so far as to set out an unlimited power for the creation of a new type of human being. These variables will be studied in light of the philosophy and theology that frames Winstanley’s entire political thought, with the purpose of envisaging the connections that on a theoretical level appear between his monist conception of the political community, the people seen as an homogeneous whole, his eschatological millenarianism and its derived political and institutional model

The dynamics between state and global powers in early Modernity: the idea of neutrality in Giovanni Botero's reason of State and its relationship with medieval Christendom

Fil: Miceli, Mario Leonardo. Serum antioxidant capacity and hydroperoxide level of seven healthy subjects after consumption of different foods

This article reports experimental data related to the research article entitled “Different effectiveness of two pastas supplemented with either lipophilic or hydrophilic/phenolic antioxidants in affecting serum as evaluated by the novel Antioxidant/Oxidant Balance approach” (M.N. Laus, M. Soccio, M. Alfarano, A. Pasqualone, M.S. Lenucci, G. Di Miceli, D. Pastore, 2016) [1]. Antioxidant status of blood serum of seven healthy subjects was evaluated during four hours after consumption of two functional pastas, supplemented with either bran oleoresin or bran water extract obtained from durum wheat. For comparison, the effect of a non-supplemented reference pasta was also evaluated, as well as the effects of glucose, of the wheat grain dietary supplement Lisosan G, and of the reference pasta consumed together with Lisosan G. Serum antioxidant status was evaluated by measuring both the serum antioxidant capacity, using LOX-FL, ORAC and TEAC methods, and the serum oxidant status, assessed as peroxide level

Forage mixture productivity and silage quality from a grass/legume intercrop in a semiarid Mediterranean environment

In semiarid environments of the Mediterranean region, intercropping is a sustainable agricultural system of long standing. In this area, the pea (Pisum sativum L.) is one of the most commonly grown legume crops. Little information is available on the quality of silages to be obtained from forage mixtures of pea intercropped with cereals or annual grasses. In this study, two experiments were conducted over the course of two growing seasons in Sicily (Italy) with the aim to determine the biomass production of forage crop mixtures and assess, only in the second experiment, the silage quality of grass and legumes. Four cereals and one annual grass species were grown in pure stand and in mixture with pea, and their main agronomic traits were determined. The land equivalent ratio (LER), competitive ratio, and aggressivity index were also calculated. A number of parameters were considered to assess the quality of silage obtained from fermented biomasses derived from pea–ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. var. Westerwoldicum) intercropping. In the first experiment, the best performance between the intercrops was recorded for the pea–wheat mixture. The total LER calculated for fodder yields was always greater than 1, indicating crop yield advantages ranging from 2.0% to 47.0%. In the second experiment, the pea–ryegrass mixture appeared to respond well, depending on plant arrangement and seeding ratio factors: the ratios 50:50 and 100:50 showed the greatest crop yield advantages, of 12.0% and 11.0%, respectively. All silages revealed a very good suitability of a pea–ryegrass intercropping system with high-quality silage production in the Southern Mediterranean region

This paper deals with the extension and the extraordinary scientific value of the works written by a great Master in Criminal Law, such as Mario Romano. The Author briefly presents some of the most relevant contributions given by Professor Mario Romano to the Criminal Science, first of all his "Commentario sistematico del codice penale" (Systematic Commentary on the penal code), a unique work. Finally, the paper talks about some topics which have been developed inside the work "Studi in onore di Mario Romano" (Studies in Honour of Mario Romano)
