Hjemme i globaliseringen
ENGELSK ABSTRACT:
Mette Mechlenborg: At Home in Globalisation?
The recent renaissance of home in culture and media has reactivated a discussion about the role of anchor in the theories of globalisation. It has also revived the discussion of the consequences of globalisation in everyday life. Today the challenge is not so much to understand the difference between a homebound life and globalisation, but to establish a dialogue between the two.
By trying to place home in the center of theories on mobility, modernity and globalisation, this article focuses on the gap between traditional understandings of globalisation and myths of everyday life and home. Theoretically and methodically this article lies in the field between housing research, cultural studies and theories of globalisation. It is embedded in the writings of Marshall Berman and in Mieke Bal’s theory of “travelling concepts“, developed for interdisciplinary studies, but goes through a range of canonised publications and writings dealing with the gap between home and globalisation as it tries to open up for a more up to date and post modern definition of the globalised home.

Co-housing
The social housing sector in Denmark has for several decades experienced problems with having a bad reputation stemming from the focus on the troubled areas, which have now been labelled “ghettos”. Therefore the social housing sector has a major task in front of it in order to change the public perception of what the sector is and what it should be in the future. Reports further show, that less people engage in the local resident’s democracy that constitutes a vital part of the running and organisation of the social housing sector. Lately several housing associations have tried to reinvent themselves by investing in new ideas to change the image of what it means to live in social housing. It has done so especially by reintroducing the concept of co- housing in a more vigorous way. The purpose of this thesis will therefore be to examine one of these experiments of co-housing communities called Karise Permatopia. This co-housing project is special as it is a collaboration between the social housing association KAB and SYDBO and the private association for future residents of Permatopia KPO. I will focus my investigation on the structural and organisational elements in order to understand, how such a cooperation is possible. My methodical approach is based on interviews with residents from Permatopia along with a representative from KAB and the chairman of SYDBO. These interviews will represent the empirical foundation of the thesis. The analysis will try to couple, how feelings of community and place attachment can influence the residents level of engagement in the local community democracy. I will use several different theorists and researchers to expound for the way I understand community and place, in adjunction to reports about co-housing and social housing. Building on the results of my analysis I will discuss what the social housing sector may learn from a project like Permatopia and how they can strengthen the local community and resident’s democracy. At last I will discuss the important value of the resident’s democracy and question what the role of social housing is and should be in the future. It can be concluded that projects like Permatopia can be a key factor in changing the role of the social housing sector and renewing the the resident’s democracy

Gender perspective in Danish municipal spatial planning
Gender aspects appear absent in Danish municipal urban planning, and rarely the planning policies and spatial strategies provide explicit procedures for incorporating gendered perspectives into urban planning. In a European context we see examples of more explicit strategies for gender planning, however the thought of achieving gender equality through spatial design seems unfamiliar to Danish municipal planners. This qualitative research explores how gender aspects appear in the planning of recreational urban spaces across 8 different municipalities through semi-structured interviews with 10 planners. We examine how the planners engage with the gender neutral strategies on a strategic and practical level following Shore and Wrights (2011) policy studies from a practitioner's perspective. The planners apply different explanatory models to support the gender-neutral strategies, which in a variety of ways suggest that gender equality is not being perceived spatially manifested or constituted. However the planners also demonstrate gendered practices through specific projects and remarks of gendered patterns of behaviour. We therefore argue that there is a discrepancy between the gender-neutral strategic approach, and how gendered aspects are managed in practice. This further challenges the gender-neutral approaches, through the theoretical perspectives presented by Massey (1994) and Criado Perez (2019), who point out that space and place play key roles in the constitution of gender relations. Using Huning et al.s (2019) definition of gender categories as an analytical framework we identify different gendered comprehensions among the planners. We argue that the different gender categories seem to coexist in the planners' practice, although they occasionally conflict. We therefore conclude by suggesting that there is a strong potential in incorporating a gender perspective into Danish municipal urban planning strategies since the current principles of inclusion already respond to different needs and preferences. However, to achieve better inclusion gender disaggregated data is necessary in order to attain more nuanced and place specific understandings of gendered patterns in urban recreational spaces

Young Peoples Everyday Life in Urbanplanen
The youth are the citizens of tomorrows urban areas. Therefore the Copenhagen Municipality is increasing their focus on involving the youth in urban redevelopment. Area-based renewal programs have been implemented to mobilize young people to take an interest in their local area. One area which has an area-based renewal program is Sundby located at Amager in Copenhagen. The area has been chosen for a renewal program due to its social and physical challenges. It is an area that consists of residential fields with a high level of young people who don’t get a secondary education after primary school. One of these residential fields is Urbanplanen located in Sundby. Urbanplanen is an area which has a high level of young residents compared to the rest of Copenhagen. The aim of this study is to examine how groups of young people between the age 13-18 use public areas in their everyday life, and how physical, social and rhythmical conditions have an impact on their use of urban areas. To answer this question the thesis has implied at mixed methods approach. The methodological approach consists of mapping, which have shown which streets in Sundby the young people use in their everyday life. The mapping has led us to a specific park in Sundby; Englandsparken. Here we have completed a rhytmanalysis to investigate how young people use the park. The rhrytmanalysis has been the basis of the focusgroupinterviews with young people who spend their everyday life in Urbanplanen. The study uses Henri Lefebvres theory on everyday life to investigate how they use urban spaces as a part of their daily routine. Lefebvres theory will be supplemented with Hugh Matthews, Melanie Limb and Mark Taylor whose theory focuses on how young people use the street as a third space. Owain Jones’ theory on spaces will be used to investigate how young people use disordered spaces. The study shows that the different groups of young people use urban spaces differently in their everyday life. They all use the street as a hybrid space for the transition between childhood and adulthood where they develop their identity in groups. The group of older teenagers in the age bracket 16-18 years, use disordered places where they can be without any adult supervision. The group that consist of younger teenagers in the age bracket 13-15 years prefer spaces with a clear function, which can be categorized as arranged spaces. For the older group, the social aspect outweighs the physical aspect of the space. For the younger group, the physical aspect has a large impact on where and how they use public spaces. The rhythmical aspect has contributed to the understanding that public spaces can change from spaces to disordered spaces at different times during the day. <br/
