Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Agaricus no Brasil: contribuições à sistemática do gênero
Abstract : The genus Agaricus is monophyletic and has a worldwide distribution with more than 400 described species. Mushrooms of the genus are characterized by free lamellae, initially white, then pinkish and finally brown with spore maturation, presence of annulus and growth in the soil. Although the genus is easily recognized in the field, species identification is difficult because the lack of characters and intraspecific variability. ITS, LSU and tef-1a DNA sequences from 73 specimens collected in the Atlantic Rain Forest, in the states of Paraíba, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul were analyzed. Molecular and taxonomic analyzes demonstrated the existence of two new clades and five new species. More than 70% of the analyzed sequences clustered in Agaricus subg. Minores into sections Minores and Laeticolores, and Agaricus subg. Flavoagaricus into section Arvenses. The other specimens clustered into four other sections: Agaricus; Rarolentes and Subrutilescentes; Xanthodermatei, representatives of the other three subgenera: Agaricus, Spissicaules and Pseudochitonia, respectively. The inclusion of new sequences of subtropical specimens, the different phylogenetic relationships found between the sections and the subgenera, and the description of new species reinforce the potentiality of study of the genus Agaricus in Brazil
There is still a huge knowledge gap about the diversity of mushrooms in the Atlantic Forest and how it varies with different environmental conditions. Thus, this work had as objectives: to carry out a survey of the richness and composition of species of mushrooms in the Serra da Mantiqueira in the southern region of Minas Gerais; test the hypothesis of how different altitudes influence the wealth and composition of the mushroom community; test the hypothesis that the temporal effect influences the wealth and/or composition of the mushrooms community and; evaluate the effect of soil moisture, air humidity, room temperature, pH, organic matter, total monthly rainfall and average monthly temperature on the richness and/or composition of the mushrooms. The mushrooms were collected over 4 different elevation levels at 4 different times throughout the year. The mushrooms were identified based on macroscopic morphological characteristics. In total, 1861 mushrooms were sampled, distributed in 381 morphospecies, 64 genera and 25 families. The altitude had little or no effect on the mushroom richness, although it did influence the composition of the mushroom community. The studied area is rich and diverse and heterogeneous in relation to the mushroom community. Soil and air humidity, at the time of collection, and the highest average monthly averages were the most important factors for mushroom richness at different periods of collection.
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The taxonomic revision of Panaceae, despite its relatively recent proposition, is essential due to the family's establishment based on a limited representation derived from only two taxa. The acceptance of the genera Cymatoderma and Panus within Panaceae is primarily supported by molecular phylogenetic analyses. Both Cymatoderma and Panus, although prominent and widely distributed genera, have a complex taxonomic history, and the systematic placement of these genera remained unstable until the proposal of Panaceae. The taxonomy of Cymatoderma and Panus has been impacted by the presence of numerous species with heterotypic synonyms described in the 19th and 20th centuries and by morphological convergence that both genera exhibit with other families of Polyporales, making them easily confused. Therefore, a comprehensive review of the genera is necessary. Species described in Brazil and those with occurrence records also lack additional collections and reviews. Although molecular evidence has been used to delimit some species in Brazil, several species have not yet undergone such analysis. With the aim of elucidating species diversity, ensuring more accurate identification, and conducting a representative phylogeny of Panaceae, studies were conducted with species occurring in Brazil. Morphological and phylogenetic analyses (molecular: nrITS, nrLSU, RPB1, and tef1- a) were performed. Panaceae is currently composed of at least 18 clades, with 4 of these proposed in this work as new species, along with 2 epitypifications and 4 new combinations. Endopandanicola thailandicus (endophytic species) is being synonymized and combined into the genus Panus. Additionally, I present an identification key, definitions of sensu stricto, and nomenclatural resolutions, as needed, for species in Panaceae. Based on the data compilation, it was also possible to assess the conservation status of one species, which was classified as Near Threatened according to IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) criteria
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
