    [2+4] vs [4+2] Cycloaddition Reactions of ortho-Thioquinones with 1,3-Dienes

Mono-ortho-thioquinones, of general formula 1, can be generate under very mild conditions by reacting the corresponding ortho-hydroxythiophthalimides 2 with bases.[1] Species 1, generate in situ, can be trapping through cycloaddition reactions with 1,3-dienes. This chemistry allowed us to study in detail the reactivity of thioquinones 1 and to demonstrate their double behaviour as hetero dienophiles, across the carbon-sulfur double bond, to give the spiro derivates 4 and as hetero dienes leading to the formation of the benzoxathiin derivatives 5.[2] The reagents structure and the reaction conditions chosen make the difference in this reactions driving the interaction between o-thioquinones and 1,3-dienes to the formation of the [2+4] dihydrothiopyran spiro and/or the [4+2] benzoxathiin cycloadducts. A computational study was conduct in order to achieve a deep understanding of both [2+4] and [4+2] paths. [1] a) Capozzi, G.; Menichetti, S.; Nativi, C.; Simonti, C. Il laccio e la spada. Un modo di vedere la "polis"

    No full text
This paper examines the themes explored in Façons tragiques de tuer une femme, focusing on the representation of female deaths in tragic theater and their broader cultural implications. Following the perspective of N. Loraux, the portrayal of a woman’s death on stage reflects a specific vision held by the polis, laden with social and symbolic meanings. The first section, by L. Cerchiai, explores the concept of katharsis, examining how tragic theater stages the «unthinkable » and frames it from a male perspective, often expressed in sexualized terms. In the second section, M. Menichetti investigates the theme of «flight», particularly in female deaths by hanging or noose, as highlighted by N. Loraux. This section emphasizes the symbolic use of tools from the world of seduction as a means for women to achieve death and transcend their earthly constraints. Finally, E. Mugione addresses the absence of this theme in iconographic representations, contrasting it with its theatrical treatment. While this absence suggests a cultural prohibition on representing such deaths visually, subtle iconographic hints imply indirect references to the tragic theme. Together, these perspectives reveal the complex interplay between gender, tragedy, and representation in classical contexts

INPATT (Inorganic Photochemical pATTerning): Precipitation of calcium carbonate induced by light in a perspective of micropatterning application

INPATT is a Proof of Concept ERC (Horizon Europe) project aimed at developing the photo-induced precipitation of calcium minerals. The main idea behind the project is that light-controlled precipitation can be achieved using molecules that release functional moieties (as carbonate or phosphate groups), which subsequently precipitate in the presence of calcium ions. The absorbance of these cleavable molecules can be tuned to the preferred wavelength and therefore, these processes can be adapted to non-invasive conditions, using aqueous solutions, bio-compatible matrices, and a non-harmful irradiation wavelength. This dataset contains characterization analysis of light induced calcium carbonate precipitates, obtained by two main techniques. The first approach, based on a previous publication (Menichetti et al, 2021, DOI:10.1002/chem.202102321), aimed to the photo-precipitation of calcium carbonate by means of Ketoprofen as photoactive molecule which was optimized to obtain a fluid paste. Secondly, calcium carbonate photo-precipitation was investigated in presence of a photocurable polymeric resin
