High-Pressure Phase Behavior for Poly(ethylene glycol) and 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluorethane Systems
The development of polymeric systems for drug deliveryhas received attention with the aim of producing new systems as an alternative to conventional drug therapy. The design of new systems for this purpose in a compressed medium requires a knowledge of the phase behavior for the polymeric matrix in the high-pressure fluids. This work reports the phase equilibrium experimental data of binary systems involving poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with molecular weights of 1000and 2000 g·mol−1 and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFA-134a). The experimental data were obtained in a high-pressure variable-volume viewing cell based on the static synthetic method at temperatures from 287.4 to 334.2 K, pressures of up to 29.81 MPa, and a PEG concentration in the range of 1 to 7 wt %. Liquid−liquid equilibrium,liquid−liquid−vapor equilibrium, and, in some cases, solid−liquid equilibrium were observed under the experimental conditions of pressure, temperature, and compositions investigated. The experimental results show that temperature and pressure have significant influences on the solubility of PEG in HFA-134a. The solid-phase formation for the system PEG + HFA-134a, in the range of values investigated for temperature, pressure, and compositions, is influenced by the molecular weight of the polymer.Fil: Oliveira Meneses, Marcela. Para isso, pelo viés dos estudos comparados entre Teologia e Literatura, revisitam-se conceitos teóricos, especialmente escatológicos e paródicos, buscando-se perceber o sentido do gênero paródico com laços religiosos no contexto da contemporaneidade.This Master's degree academic research aims at pointing the dialogic relations in the Brazilian novel A Divina Paródia (The Divine Parody), especially between it and The Divine Comedy, both works portrayed in this study as literary depiction of the Christian allegoric hell. To do so, considering the compared studies between Theology and Literature, theoretical concepts are revisited, mostly eschatological and parodic ones, in an attempt of understanding the meaning of the parodic genre with religious bonds contemporarily
Partição retangular minima de um retangulo em programação linear inteira
Orientador: Cid Carvalho de SouzaDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de ComputaçãoResumo: Dado um retângulo R e um conjunto finito não vazio P de pontos no interior de R, estudamos o problema de particionar R em retângulos menores tal que nenhum ponto em P está no interior de qualquer retângulo da partição. O objetivo é minimizar a soma dos comprimentos dos segmentos de reta definindo a partição. Este problema é NP-difícil e uma generalização deste tem aplicação em projeto de circuitos VLSI. Neste trabalho implementamos os principais algoritmos de aproximação que têm sido propostos para este problema e propomos dois diferentes modelos de programação linear inteira. No primeiro modelo, onde variáveis são associadas a segmentos de reta, fazemos uma investigação do poliedro associado ao problema. Inequações lineares definindo facets são apresentadas e resultados computacionais para um algoritmo Branch-and-Cut baseado nestas inequações são reportados. O segundo modelo é baseado em uma redução do problema em questão para o problema set partitioning. Um algoritmo Branch-and-Price para este modelo foi implementando e os resultados são comparados com aqueles obtidos pelo algoritmo Branch-and-Cut. Os experimentos computacionais realizados mostraram a viabilidade da resolução exata deste problema através de técnicas de programação linear inteira, pelo menos para instâncias de médio porte (|P| = 200).Abstract: Given a rectangle R in the plane and a non empty finite set P of points in the interior of R, we study the problem of partitioning R into smaller rectangles such that no point in P is interior to any rectangle of the partition. The goal is to minimize the sum of the lengths of the straight line segments defining the partition. This problem is NP-hard and a generalization of it have application in VLSI design. In this work we implement the main approximation algorithms that have been proposed for this problem and propose two different integer programming models. In the first one, the variables are associated to line segments and we investigate the polyhedron associated to this model. Facet defining inequalities are presented and computational results obtained by a Branch-and-Cut algorithm based on these inequalities are reported. The second model is based on a Set Partitioning formulation. A Branch-and-Price algorithm for this model has been implemented and the results are compared with those obtained by the Branch-and-Cut algorithm. The computational results show that, at least for medium sized instances (IPI = 200), the problem can be solved exactly using Integer Programming techniques.MestradoMestre em Ciência da Computaçã
Miradas Al Sur: a criação mitológica do bairro sur na obra de Jorge Luis Borges

Para tanto, analisou-se de que forma a representação de tal espaço torna-o simbólico e, posteriormente, mítico, tanto no conjunto da obra do autor, como também, a partir desse movimento individual de Borges, no imaginário coletivo da cidade. Estudou-se ainda como a memória própria e o imaginário criaram espaços afetivos, que permeiam a totalidade dos textos do autor.Abstract: This study investigates how Jorge Luis Borges builds Sur neighborhood as mythic space in his first three books of poetry. To this end, we analyzed how the representation of such a space make of it a symbolic and later a mythical space, both in the overall work of the author, but also that individual movement of Borges that achieve the collective imagination of the city. Still we have studied how the personal memory and the imagery is able to create emotional spaces, which constitute the totality of texts by the author
Varieties of Cubes of Opposition
The objects called cubes of opposition have been presented in the literature in discordant ways. The aim of the paper is to offer a survey of such various kinds of cubes and evaluate their relation with an object, here called "Aristotelian cube", which consists of two Aristotelian squares and four squares which are semiaristotelian, i.e. are such that their vertices are linked by some so-called Aristotelian relation. Part of section 1 is devoted to define the notions of rotation and of r-Aristotelian square, i.e. a square resulting from some rotation of an Aristotelian square. In section 2 this notion is extended to the one of a r-Aristotelian cube, i.e. of a cube resulting from some rotation of some square of an Aristotelian cube. This notion is used in the sequel to analyze various cubes of oppositions which can be found in the literature: (1) the one used by W. Lenzen to reconstruct Caramuel's Octagon; (2) the one used by D. Luzeaux to represent the implicative relation among S5-modalities; (3) the one introduced by D. Dubois to represent the relations between quantified propositions containing positive predicates and their negations; (4) the one called Moretti cube.None of such cubes is strictly speaking Aristotelian but each of them may be proved to be r-Aristotelian. Section 5 discusses the assertion that Dubois cube was anticipated in a paper published by Reichenbach in 1952. Actually Dubois' construction was anticipated by the so-called Johnson-Keynes cube, while the Reichenbach cube, unlike Dubois cube, is an instance of an Aristotelian cube in the sense defined in this paper. The dominance of such notion is confirmed by J.F. Nilsson's cube, representing relations between propositions with nested quantifiers, and also by a cube introduced by S. Read to treat quantifiers with existential import. A cube similar to Read's cube, introduced by Chatti and Schang, is shown to be r-Aristotelian. In section 6 the author remarks that the logic of the formulas occurring in the cubes of Chatti-Schang and Read have the drawback of not satsfying the law of Identity. He then proposes a definition of non-standard quantifiers which satisfies Identity, are independent of existential assumptions and such that their interrelations are represented by an Aristotelian cube
Economics for Sustainability Science: the analysis of changes in public service provision
Economics has been criticised for failing to engage with Sustainability Science. The author suggests that these critiques mainly refer to mainstream economics. By contrast, an alternative paradigm exists which combines the analysis of socio-economic phenomena with natural science. Introduced by Nicholas Georges- cu-Roegen, the bioeconomic program represents a powerful in- strument coherent with political economy.
The paper applies the Georgescu-Roegen’s analysis to the case of health care service provision in a rural area in Central Italy. The pa- per shows that the production and the consumption processes re- quire natural resources and produce pollution and wastes. Finally, the author shows that in this case the major environmental and so- cial dimensions are related to the consequences of re-centralization. This result undermines the mainstream economic analysis which usually neglects a thorough observation of externalities. The flow- fund method enhances the assessment of the environmental and so- cial aspects that play a key role in Sustainability Science
