Crossing the Battlefield: Archaeology, nationalism and practice in Irish historical archaeology

Get PDFIn Wien hat sich oberirdisch nichts mehr von der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer erhalten und auch von der Festungsanlage, die die Stadt umgeben hat, ist kaum noch etwas sichtbar. Anlass für die intensive Beschäftigung mit der Stadtbefestigung waren Ausgrabungen, die die Stadtarchäologie Wien an zahlreichen Stellen in der Innenstadt durchgeführt hat. Die Überreste wurden freigelegt und dokumentiert, Bauweise, Baustoffe und Mauerwerkstrukturen analysiert. Für die Auswertung wurden Schrift- und Bildquellen erschlossen, die Dynamik des Naturraums miteinbezogen sowie Ergebnisse älterer Ausgrabungen erfasst. Die Analyse aller ermittelten Daten ermöglichte es, die Entwicklung der Stadtbefestigung von ihrer Entstehung im 13. Jahrhundert bis zur Errichtung der Festung nachzuzeichnen. Wesentliche Kapitel der publikationsbasierten Dissertation beinhalten die Darstellung von Ausgrabungsergebnissen, der Baugeschichte und des Bauprozesses, insbesondere von drei Bauphasen in der Zeit von 1531 bis 1564. Außerdem wurden drei bisher kaum bekannte, undatierte Pläne von Wien, die sog. „Angielini-Pläne“ bezüglich der Wiedergabe der Stadtbefestigung bewertet. Verschiedene Pläne des 16. Jahrhunderts wurden miteinander verglichen, Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten herausgearbeitet.
Mit Hilfe historischer, georeferenzierbarer Pläne wurden die einstigen Baukörper funktional und strukturell interpretiert, der Verlauf der Stadtbefestigung rekonstruiert und im heutigen Stadtgebiet verortet. Diese Kartierungen sind als Layer im digitalen Stadtplan von Wien über das Kulturportal der Stadt Wien „Wien Kulturgut“ online abrufbar und in „Open Data Österreich“ als Download verfügbar

No full textIn Museumsarchiven in Bergen und weiteren Orten im südwestlichen Norwegen liegen zahlreiche Keramikobjekte des späten Mittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit, die bisher weitgehend unbearbeitet waren. Die Mehrzahl der Artefakte stammt aus archäologischen Untersuchungen, einzelne Stücke stammen aus älteren Sammlungen. In der Dissertation wird das Steinzeug aus dem Weserbergland, aus Sachsen und das reliefverzierte Steinzeug der Renaissance ausführlich bestimmt und im Detail mitsamt den jeweiligen Fundzusammenhängen vorgestellt. Ausgehend von den archäologischen Funden und Befunden werden Interpretationsmodelle entwickelt, welche die Distribution der Keramik mit dem Handelsnetzwerken der Hanse in Verbindung bringen. Die Verwendung des importierten Schank- und Trinkgeschirrs in Norwegen lässt Rückschlüsse auf zeitgenössische Trinksitten und die kulturellen Verflechtungen im Nord- und Ostseeraum zu. Die Bildwelten des reliefverzierten Steinzeugs reflektieren die Mentalität der Renaissance.In museum archives in Bergen and other places in south-western Norway there are numerous ceramic objects from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period hitherto hasn’t been subject for scientific analysis. Most of the artefacts come from archaeological investigations; single pieces are from older collections. In the dissertation, the stoneware from the Weser Uplands, from Saxony and the relief-decorated stoneware of the Renaissance is examined in detail and presented in with the respective find context’. Based on the archaeological finds and features, an interpretation model is developed that link the distribution of ceramics with the trade networks of the Hanseatic League. The use of the imported drinking and pouring vessels in Norway enables insight into contemporary drinking habits and the cultural ties in the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
