Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Phys. 1, 407-413 1999.Author Institution: School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK; Physical and Theoretical Chemisry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, UKThe conformational structures of 4-hydroxy phenol ethanol (p-tyrosol) and it's 1:1 hydrated cluster, have been characterised in a free jet expansion through a combination of mass-selected, resonantly enhanced two-photon ionisation (MS-R2PI), fluorescence excitation and ultra-violet `hole-burning' spectroscopy, together with rotational contour analysis and ab initio . It has been possible to assign the structures of both the gauche cis and gauche trans OH rotamers, as well as the extended anti conformer, and their 1:1 hydrated clusters. The `tagging' of the phenolic OH group by the hydrogen-bonded water molecule also allows unambiguous assignment of the cis and trans gauche conformers through rotational band contour analysis

No full textJune Jordan, poet, essayist and political activist, is the recipient of the Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest Writers Award in 1995. The author of several award-winning books she has, to date, published 23 books and is the most published African-American writer in history. Her newest titles, June Jordan’s Poetry for the People: A Revolutionary Blueprint, 1995, Technical Difficulties, 1992 and I was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, 1995 appeared to both critical and popular acclaim. Her commentary has appeared in the New York Times, Essence, The Nation, and MS; and she is a regular political columnist for The Progressive. Jordan is currently Professor of African American Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. She has been Professor of English at more than seven North American universities and colleges, including Sarah Lawrence, City College and Yale University

Liberating language and concepts of the divine in contemporary hymnody
No full textThis article will examine from an auto-ethnographic perspective the language of hymnody and how it has developed over the last 25 years through the period of secularisation and postsecularisation. It will interrogate and analyse the words used for the Divine in a drive towards an inclusive language approach to God. It will look at the arguments of feminist theologians towards feminine images for the Divine and then how far these images will be acceptable in secular contexts, especially in secular rituals that include people from a variety of belief backgrounds in a post-secular world. It will use examples from woman writers and draw on the author�s experience of revising her own hymns for a variety of contexts. These will be interrogated in the light of debates around spiritual but not religious, multifaith dialogue and post-secularisation. It will look at a variety of approaches to the Christian narrative in contemporary UK � devotional, cultural and story � examining the language appropriate for these various approaches and various contexts.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: Hymnology crosses the disciplines of music, theology, liturgy and ritual (sacred and secular) and has implications for all these areas, especially Church liturgy and sacred music in secular contexts. It is lyrical theology, which spans the arts and theology and expresses theological ideas in an artistic form.�</p
