    Enhancing Learner Autonomy in Extensive Listening Class through the Listening Logs

    Abstract: Mastering listening skill has been a great burden for intermediate to upper-intermediate students in Indonesian EFL context. The absence of real life exposures to native speakers of English strengthens student’s reluctance to frequently practice listening to English. Therefore, this paper will propose the listening logs applied in an extensive listening class to enhance student’s autonomy in improving their listening skill. The article will begin by highlighting some challenges faced by students in Listening class and some possible strategies to deal with them will be presented further. Later, relevant theories on extensive listening and learner autonomy will be discussed. Next, the author will introduce the listening logs followed by the procedures on how this is planned, implemented and evaluated. This paper offers an alternative for teachers to promote students’ in and out of class learning regarding their own pace and interest in extensive listening practice

    Nursing Modality Therapy (Spiritual Deep Breathing) Resolve Student Distress

    The condition of nursing faculty students has many academic tasks such as attending classes, taking exams, socializing, adjusting to fellow students with different characteristics and backgrounds, developing talents and interests through non-academic activities. This condition causes students to not be able to manage time well so that they experience distress. Quasy experiment research used two groups pre-post-test design. The sample included 15 control groups and 15 treatment groups. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling. Research variables include spiritual deep breathing therapy and distress rate. The instrument uses depression anxiety stress scale-42 (DASS-42) in the form of a Likert scale. This type of unfavorable questionnaire contains 42 questions. The spiritual instrument deep breathing therapy is about 20 minutes a day for seven days. Statistical test using Wilcoxon signed rank test against both groups. There was a significant effect on the treatment group (p-value 0.001). In the control group there was no effect (p-value 0.263). Distress conditions in a person can be overcome with one therapy such as spiritual deep breathing therapy. Spiritual deep breathing therapy as a therapy for nursing modalities can optimize oxygen demand for cells that are distressed, blood flow to the muscles decreases otherwise blood flows to the brain and skin increases so as to provide a sense of warmth, comfort and calm

    Islamic education is an important component in forming the character of a child because Islamic religious education is the foundation that will color the life that children will go through. Meanwhile the number of fights between adolescents, immoral acts among young people, promiscuity, the growth of adultery, consuming illegal drugs is caused by the lack of supervision from the family which makes them so easy to use and do it. By using qualitative methods with interviewing techniques the author wants to know how the Islamic religious education strategy is applied to the family. From the results of interviews with one family that Islamic religious education in families in shaping children's character uses 6 strategies, namely: 1) exemplary strategies, 2) habituation strategies, 3) counseling strategies, 4) disciplinary strategies, 5) punishment strategies, and 6) gift giving strategy. To shape the character of the child in order to become a man of faith and devotion to the Almighty God, as well as a noble character that includes ethics, morality, character, spirituality cannot be separated from the role of the family played by parents because the family is the first and foremost educational institution for children

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan penggunaan bahasa ibu pada anak usia dini ketika keluarga berada di luar daerah asalnya. Selain itu penelitian ini juga mengkaji bagaimana konsep bahasa ibu berdasarkan pemahaman orangtua, faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi penggunaan bahasa ibu pada anak usia dini ketika berada di luar daerahnya, dan upaya apa saja yang dilakukan oleh para orangtua dalam menggunakan bahasa ibu ketika bukan di daerahnya sendiri. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain penelitian studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil pengolahan data serta analisis menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar ibu yang berasal dari Aceh tidak menggunakan bahasa ibu sebagai bahasa pengantar pada anaknya. Dari 7 keluarga hanya 1 keluarga yang menggunakan bahasa Aceh sebagai bahasa ibu. Hal ini dikarenakan orangtua mengaku sulit untuk menggunakan bahasa ibu apalagi ketika berada di luar daerahnya. Selain lingkungan, penulis juga menemukan bahwa adanya faktor lain yang mempengaruhi penggunaan bahasa ibu seperti kurangnya kesadaran orangtua akan pentingnya penggunaan bahasa ibu, masuknya tren dan budaya yang mempengaruhi pola asuh keluarga (terutama dalam penggunaan bahasa), hingga pernikahan antar suku. Akan tetapi kecintaan pada daerahnya membuat para orangtua tetap mengenalkan bahasa ibu melalui berbagai pembiasaan dan pendekatan diantaranya: a) melalui hal yang menarik agar mudah di terima anak b) menyelipkan/menggunakan pada moment tertentu seperti ketika bermain dengan anak, ketika bercanda dengan anak, ketika menasehati anak atau bahkan moment berkumpul keluarga c) membiasakan anak mendengar dan sesekali melibatkan anak berbicara menggunakan bahasa ibu dengan menggunakan bahasa yang paling dekat dengan anak dan yang mudah dimengerti d) adanya peran keluarga inti. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, maka direkomendasikan bagi penelitian lainnya untuk mengkhususkan pada pengaruh penggunaan bahasa ibu terhadap psikologis anak dengan menggunakan metode penelitian yang berbeda.;---This study aims at figuring out the use of mother tongue on early childhood when living outside the hometown. In addition, this study also examines the concept of mother tongue based on the parents’ understandings, the factors that influence the use of mother tongue in early childhood when outside the hometown, and efforts made by parents to use their mother tongue when it is not in their hometown. A case study with the qualitative approach was conducted in this study. Observation, Interview, and documentation were administered for the sake of data collection. The results of data processing and analysis show that most of the mothers from Aceh did not use their mother tongue as the language of instruction to their children. Of the 7 families, only one family used Acehnese as a daily communication tool or as the language of instruction. This phenomenon was due to the difficulties encountered by parents in using the mother tongue, especially when outside the hometown. Addition to environment, the author also found the other factors that influenced the use of mother tongue namely lack of parental awareness of the importance of the mother tongue, the inclusion and cultural trends that affected family upbringing (especially in the use of language), as well as the cross-cultural marriage. However the love of the hometown made the parents keep introducing their native language through a variety of habituation and approaches that includes: a) through interesting things to be easily received by children, b) working on or using it at certain moments such as when playing with children, joking, giving advice, even in family gathering, c) getting children to hear and sometimes involving children speak the native language by using vocabularies or terms that are closest to them and are easy to understand, and d) the role of the main family. Based on the research results, it is recommended for further research to specialize in the psychological effects of the use of mother tongue in early childhood by using different research methods

    Abstrak Semakin berkembangnya zaman Tafsir Al-Qur’an sudah mengalami kemajuan. Pada masa modern ini Tafsir Al-Qur’an sudah memasuki era digital, dimana semua orang bisa mengakses dan mencari informasi baik berita maupun Tafsir Al-Qur’an di media sosial. Di media sosial sudah banyak yang membahas mengenai Tafsir Al-Qur’an salah satunya oleh Abdullah Zaen yang memabahas Surah Al-Ikhlas di kanal Yufid.TV. Abdullah Zaen sendiri merupakan cendekiawan muslim lulusan S-2 jurusan Aqidah Universitas Islam Madinah sekaligus pengajar di Pondok Pesantren Tunas Ilmu Purbalingga. Tulisan ini hadir untuk mengungkapkan secara signifikan Bagaimana sistematika penafsiran Abdullah Zaen terhadap Surah Al-Ikhlas di kanal Yufid.TV?, Bagaimana metode dan corak penafsiran Abdullah Zaen terhadap Surah Al-Ikhlas di kanal Yufid.TV?, Bagaimana penafsiran Abdullah Zaen terhadap Surah Al-Ikhlas di kanal Yufid.TV perspektif komunikasi massa? Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitiaan kepustakaan (Library Research) dan menggunakan pendekatan etnografi yaitu dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan berbagai data dan informasi yang ada di lingkungan online terutama pada Kanal Youtube Yufid.TV mengenai penafsiran Abdullah Zaen Surah Al-Ikhlas. Selanjutnya, data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan metode deskriptif agar menghasilkan penjelasan yang detail, utuh dan sistematis. Penulis menggunakan dua teori untuk menganalisis penafsiran Abdullah Zaen yaitu menggunakan aspek penafsiran ijmali dan aspek komunikasi massa. Sebagai hasil dari kajian ini, ditemukan bahwa sistematika penafsiran Abdullah Zaen terhadap Surah Al-Ikhlas mengarah kepada tiga hal, yakni asbab al-nuzul, tafsir Surah Al-Ikhlas, dan faidah Surah Al-Ikhlas. Dalam penafsiran Abdullah Zaen terhadap Surah Al-Ikhlas di kanal Yufid.TV memuat dua hal. Pertama, metode yang digunakan berupa tafsir ijmali. Kedua, corak yang digunakan pada penafsiran Abdullah Zaen berupa tafsir teologi. Ditilik dari perspektif komunikasi massa untuk menyikapi penafsirsan Surah Al-Ikhlas yang dilakukan Abdullah Zaen di kanal Yufid.TV ditemukan lima karakteristik komunikasi massa yang mencakup komunikasi yang bersifat umum, komunikasi yang bersifat anonym dan heterogen, komunikasi keserempakan, komunikasi yang bersifat satu arah, dan komunikasi yang bersifat umpan balik tertunda dan tidak langsung. Abstrack Interpretation of the Qur'an continues to progress along with the times. In this modern era, Tafsir Al-Qur’an has entered the digital era, where everyone can easily access and search for Tafsir Al-Qur’an on social media. There has been much discussion about Tafsir Al-Qur’an, one of which is Abdullah Zaen, who discusses Surah Al-Ikhlas on the Yufid.TV channel. Abdullah Zaen is a Muslim scholar who graduated with a master's degree in Aqidah at the Islamic University of Medina and a teacher at the Tunas Ilmu Islamic Boarding School in Purbalingga. This article aims to reveal significantly how Abdullah Zaen interprets Surah Al-Ikhlas on the Yufid.TV channel ?, how method and the style used in Abdullah Zaen's interpretation of Surah Al-Ikhlas on the Yufid.TV channel ?, and how Abdullah Zaen interprets Surah Al-Ikhlas on the channel Yufid.TV from a mass communication perspective? The research method used is library research with an ethnographic approach which collected various data and information online, especially on the Yufid.TV Youtube Channel related to the interpretation of Abdullah Zaen Surah Al-Ikhlas. Furthermore, the data was analysed using a descriptive method to produce a detailed, complete, and systematic explanation. The author uses two theories to analyse Abdullah Zaen's interpretation, i.e., aspects of ijmali interpretation and aspects of mass communication. As a result of this study, the researhcer found that the systematics Abdullah Zaen's interpretation of Surah Al-Ikhlas leads to three things, i.e., the asbab al-nuzul, the interpretation of Surah Al-Ikhlas, and the meaning of Surah Al-Ikhlas. Abdullah Zaen's interpretation of Surah Al-Ikhlas on the Yufid.TV channel contains two things. First, the method used is in the form of ijmali interpretation. Second, the style used in Abdullah Zaen's interpretation is theological interpretation.
