"Berkat" Farmers Group and "Serasi" Farmers Group are farmer groups located in Lidah Tanah Village, Perbaungan District. There are various problems found in the two farmer groups, which are: (a) Low / limited farmer income, (b) Increasing pests and diseases attack, (c) Unfamiliarity about mina padi lele cultivation system and do not implement it to increase their income, to optimize land, to reduce pest and weed attacks, to increase the efficiency of fertilizers and water usage, (d) Farmers do not know and do not implement routine pest monitoring systems, (e) Farmers have no knowledge about organic pesticides production, (f) Farmers have no knowledge about organic feed production for catfish cultivation and (g) Environmental pollution due to excessive use of pesticides and less utilization of harvest waste such as rice straw. The solution to overcome these various problems is by applying mina padi lele technology, which is a farming system by combining the techniques of rice cultivation and raising fish simultaneously in paddy fields. The results showed that the application of the mina padi lele cultivation system greatly benefited farmers, where organic rice produced from the mina padi lele system was 263.5 kg/rante (1 rante equals to 625 m2) with additional 57.5 kg/rante of organic catfish products while non-organic rice produced from cultivation conventionally applied by farmers is 257.6 kg / rante

The objective of the study was to determine the influences of biochar amendments and Azolla sp application on soil chemical value, lead (Pb) content,  and growth of paddy. The research was conducted in Growth Centre LLDIKTI I, Medan, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, from April to July 2014. The research design used a factorial randomized block design with three replications. The first factor was Azolla sp application: without Azolla (A0); Azolla pinnata (A1); Azolla mikropilla (A2)] and the second factor was biochar amendment without biochar (B0); RSB-Rice straw biochar (B1),  RHB-Rice husk biochar (B2), CPB-coconut peat biochar (B3), OPB-Oil Palm Empty Bunch biochar (B4)]. The result showed that the biochar amendment treatments had significant differences (P<0.05) in all soil chemical values and growth parameters of paddy. The Azolla application showed significant differences (P<0.05) in plant height, number of tillers, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, and Pb content in the root. The interaction among the Azolla sp and the biochar amendments showed significant differences (P<0.05) in a number of the tillers. It was concluded that the application of rice husk biochar and Azolla microphylla was able to increase soil chemical properties, increase the growth of paddy, and also increase the Pb content in soil, leaves, and roots

Implementation of Salibu Rice Cultivation Technology in Percut Sei Tuan Sub-District

Percut Sei Tuan Sub-district is an agricultural production center in Deli Serdang Regency. The area of irrigated paddy field in Percut Sei Tuan Sub-district comprises of 3,610 ha and 1,616 ha of non-irrigated paddy field. The farmer association groups (tani mitra) consisting of Farmer Group "Pasar II" and Farmer Group "Mulia" are located in Tanjung Selamat Village. Much land in Tanjung Selamat Village has been converted into an industrial area; previously the paddy field area reached 600 hectares, but only 200 hectares remains now. The Farmer Groups "Pasar II" and "Mulia" consist of 30 and 76 farmers with paddy rice field area of 25 ha and 23 ha respectively, and rice productivity amounts to 6.2 tons/ha and 7 tons/ha. The problems of the farmers were the high land use conversion resulting in reduced harvested area and only a few farmers change the local location-specific organic materials into organic fertilizers independently. The purposes of this community service activity were to increase the farmers' income through the implementation of salibu technology whereby farmers can harvest 2-3 times in one planting and to increase the farmers’ understanding and knowledge about the manufacturing process of organic fertilizer and pesticide. The solutions offered were including counseling, a training and plot demonstration on salibu technology, and the production of bokashi straw. The outcome of this IbM has resulted in several things: bokashi of compressed hay with Local Microorganism from cattle intestine and Trichoderma, organic pesticide products based on Corynebacterium and Trichoderma, and farming analysis with salibu technology

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
