The aim of this paper is to analyze the story "El mico", by Francisco Tario, a Hispanic-Mexican writer. 2d-LCA - an alternative to x-wires
The 2d-Laser Cantilever Anemometer (2d-LCA) is an novel anemometer for two-dimensional velocity measurements in fluids. It uses a mico-structured cantilever with a specifically designed tip as a sensing element and is capable of performing measure- ments with extremely high temporal (≈ 100kHz) and spatial (≈ 140μm) resolutions. Another big feature is a large angular range of 180◦ in total. The performance of the 2d-LCA has been verified by means of comparative measurements with commercial x-wires in laboratory-generated turbulent flow. We are able to show that both measurement techniques provide comparable statistics
Hermeneutics and intercultural understanding in the age of globalization
In the article the author considers the relevance of intercultural
understanding in the age of globalization and points out the role which
Gadamer?s hermeneutics plays in this context. First, the author presents the
main characteristics of globalization, taking into account Giddens?
understanding of the contemporary epoch as a radicalization of modernity and
Heidegger?s interpretation of the contemporary era as the ending of
metaphysics as nihilism. The author emphasizes that the question about
conditions of possibility of intercultural understanding becomes an important
question of philosophy in the situation of intensification of cross-cultural
encounters. Then he argues that Gadamer?s philosophical hermeneutics,
especially its conception of effective-historical consciousness, provides an
acceptable ground for explanation of possibility of cross-cultural dialogue.
As the author concludes, the importance of the ethics of finality is affirmed
in that way by hermeneutics in the contemporary world.</jats:p
New insights into the distribution and conservation status of the Golden-White Tassel-Ear Marmoset Mico chrysoleucos (Primates, Callitrichidae)
Among the 13 Mico species recognized by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, six are listed as “Data Deficient”. The geographic range of most of the Mico species has been estimated from only a few records. We report new localities and the geographic extension of Mico chrysoleucos. In addition, we confirmed the presence of the species in two distinct protected areas. We modeled the habitat suitability of M. chrysoleucos using the maximum entropy method and including new records obtained by the authors in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. From the total area of occurrence calculated for the species, 22.8% is covered by protected areas and indigenous lands. The annual mean deforestation rate estimated between 2000 and 2015 was 2.95%, and the total area deforested by 2015 was 3354 km2 or 8.6% of the total distribution limits of the species. The habitat lost between 2000 and 2015 was 3.2% (1131 km2) of the total potential distribution, while the habitat loss area legally protected was 31 km2, and the habitat loss in settlements was equal to 691 km2. Our results extend the geographic distribution of the species about 100 km farther south, with the Maracanã River being a possible geographic barrier for the species. The significantly low rate of habitat loss inside protected areas and indigenous land, when compared to unprotected areas, points out the importance of these areas to M. chrysoleucos conservation. The species is relatively wide-ranging, legally protected, and resilient to regional anthropic threats. However, the hydroelectric schemes and the improvement of the road system in southern Amazonia pose an imminent threat to the species. © 2018, The Author(s)
It is the second reference of this parasite. The author gives an historic of the species since the original description by Travassos (1921). He adds new features to the original work and he also presents some pathological aspects of the worm in the lung's host. A new generic combination is proposed considering the presence of lips in the oral extremity, fact not mentioned in the original description by Travassos. The species now must be called Filariopsis barretoi (Travassos, 1921) Rego, 1974
Indexes of the foreign exchange value of the dollar
At the end of 1998, the staff of the Federal Reserve Board introduced a new set of indexes of the foreign exchange value of the U.S. dollar. The staff made the changeover, from indexes that had been used since the late 1970s, for two reasons. First, five of the ten currencies in the staff's previous main index of the dollar's exchange value were about to be replaced by a single new currency, the euro. Second, developments in international trade since the late 1970s called for a broadening of the scope of the staff's dollar indexes and a closer alignment of the currency weights with U.S. trade patterns. ; The author discusses several practical aspects of the design and implementation of the exchange rate indexes--the choice of index formula, the design of currency weights, and the selection of currencies. The author also reviews the performance of the indexes over the past twenty-five years and discusses three minor methodological changes that the staff has applied to the indexes since their introduction.Foreign exchange rates ; Dollar
The Drafter’s role in the drafting process
This dissertation focuses on the legislative drafting process and the drafter’s role in the production of quality legislation - looking in particular at questions surrounding the way drafters handle the drafting process, the issue of permission to draft, drafting instructions, drafting manual, the drafter’s skills, the quality of legislation, and applying Thornton’s five stages of drafting process. The author argues that Drafters should adopt Thornton’s five stages of the drafting process (understanding the proposal, analysing the proposal, designing the law, composing and developing the draft and the scrutiny of the draft) in order to improve the quality of legislation. The author also identifies any gaps in the process and the problems drafters encounter, which directly or indirectly affect the quality of the legislation they produce. The discussion is supported with arguments put forward by different legal experts and legal professionals. Examples are drawn from the Sierre Leone and Rwandan jurisdictions based on interviews with drafters from five key Rwandan legislative institutions, namely: the Ministry of Justice, the Rwandan Senate, the Rwandan Parliament, the President’s office and the Prime Minister’s office

M. Heidegger: Metaphysical character of technical scientific civilisation
In this paper, author deals with Heidegger's account of the modern age as the epoch based on Western metaphysics. In the first part of the paper, he shows that, according to Heidegger, modern interpretation of the reality as the world picture, is essentially determined by Descartes' philosophy. Then, author exposes Heidegger's interpretation of the turn which already took place in Plato's metaphysics and which made possible Descartes' metaphysics and modern epoch. In the second part of the paper, author explores Heidegger's interpretation of science and technology as shoots of very metaphysics. Heidegger emphasizes that the essence of technology corresponds to the essence of subjectivity and shows how the metaphysics of subjectivity subsequently finds its end in Nietzsche's metaphysics of the will to power, as the last word of Western philosophy. In the concluding part, author argues that the contemporary processes of globalization can be just understood as processes of completion of metaphysics. They can be identified as a global rule of the essence of technology. On the basis of Heidegger's vision of overcoming metaphysics, author concludes that it opens the possibility of a philosophy of finitude which points to dialogue with the Other as a way of resolving the key practical issues of the contemporary world
