Subjective expectations in the context of HIV/AIDS in Malawi
In this paper we present a newly developed interactive elicitation methodology for collecting probalistic in expectations in a developing country context with low levels of literacy and numeracy, and we evaluate the feasibility and success of this method for a wide range of outcomes in rural Malawi. We find that respondents' answers about their subjective expectations take into account basic properties of probabilities, and vary meaningfully with observable characteristics and past experience. From a substantive point of view, the elicited expectation's indicate that individuals are generally aware of differential risks. For example, individuals with lower incomes and less land rightly feel at greater risk of financial distress than people with higher socioeconomic status (SES), and people who are divorced or widowed rightly feel at greater risk of being infected with HIV than currently married individuals. Meanwhile many expectations - including the probability of being currently infected with HIV - are well-calibrated compared to actual probabilities, but mortality expectations are substantially overestimated compared to life table estimates. This overestimation maylead individuals to underestimate the benefits of adopting HIV risk-reduction strategies. The skewed distribution, of expectations about condom use also suggests that a small group of innovators are the forerunners in the adoption of condoms within marriage for HIV prevention. © 2009 Adeline Delavande & Hans-Peter Kohler
Inventing Malayaness: Race, Education and Englishness in Colonial Malaya

Koh, Adeline. Inventing Malayanness: Race, Education and Englishness in Colonial Malaya. A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Comparative Literature). University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, 2008.
Description: This dissertation focuses on late nineteenth and twentieth century Orientalized representations of British Malaya in the work of Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham and Anthony Burgess. It argues that racial logics reflected within this Anglophone expatriate literature influenced colonial and postcolonial politics in Malaysia and Singapore.

A study on the effect of shopping centre layout design on shoppers behaviour / Dina Adeline L. Kading
This study focuses on the effect of shopping center layout design on shoppers' behaviour. The objectives of this project is to study on the detailed layout of shopping center, interiorly and exteriorly, to identify general information concerning shoppers behaviour whereby it can be interrelated to how do the layout affecting shoppers behaviour, and finally to observe and study about the shopping center layout design and to make sure how does it affect on local shoppers behaviour. Sources of the data and information are gathered by the author from literature review of previous researches, published articles and books, and supported by the opinions of shoppers through structured questionnaires. From the survey, analysis and findings, the author noted that majority shoppers are satisfied on both interior and exterior layout of the case study. Attractive shopping environment, appealing exterior features, effortless in finding the entrance, sufficient car parks, these are some of the reason that make shoppers happy with the shopping complex.
