Edward Schumacher-Matos Lecture
Born in Colombia, Schumacher-Matos was in the U.S. illegally from age 14 until age 21, when he went to court, was allowed to declare his citizenship, and joined the Army to serve in Vietnam. He was educated at Vanderbilt University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, served as a Fulbright Fellow in Japan, and as a Bi-National Commission Fellow in Spain. He also was executive director of the Spanish Institute in New York, a nonprofit dedicated to U.S.-Spanish political, economic and cultural affairs. The Robert F. Kennedy Professor for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, Schumacher-Matos is also a Shorenstein Fellow on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard\u27s Kennedy School of Government, where he teaches a graduate seminar on immigration from Latin America into the U.S. and is writing a book on the subject. Schumacher-Matos applies his rich experiences—immigrant, soldier, reporter, editor, publisher, author, ombudsman, professor, academic fellow—to his weekly, syndicated column on national and international affairs. His work has appeared in the influential journal Foreign Affairs, and he has published numerous op-ed articles, which, he says, express the value of human dignity over self-righteousness and realism over wishful thinking. His talk was the keynote address of Susquehanna University\u27s 16th annual Latino Symposium
Blockchain technology and traceability in the wine supply chain industry
In a global context, marked by the increase in digital transformation in all sectors of society, digitalisation in the wine industry faces various challenges. One of these challenges is ensuring the wine supply chain transparency and security to the more informed consumers and technology users. This study is part of an ongoing research project. It presents a literature review whose objective is to analyse the benefits of using blockchain technology in the wine industry supply chain to tackle these challenges. This technology, combined with other technologies and supported on Internet-of-Things-based interconnected systems, can guarantee protection systems with high security. This research demonstrates how blockchain technology can add value to the wine industry’s supply chain and identifies the main challenges of implementing this technology in the Wine Industry. Also, it is presented a potential proposal to develop a traceability system for the wine industry. In terms of originality, this study aims to contribute and stimulate data-driven discussions regarding the use of technologies to support traditional industries’ supply chains and provide security for producers and consumers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The knowledge economy and quality of work in the future: An exploratory study
The emergence of digital technologies is transforming economic paradigms and leading to significant changes in
product and factor markets, as well as how businesses operate. While these technologies enhance productivity, they also present new challenges for businesses regarding manufacturing methods, sources of competitive advantage, and market structures, impacting how work is conducted. Workplace transformations are happening at a faster pace than anticipated, raising important questions for employees, business decision-makers, and policymakers. We conducted an exploratory study to analyze the realism of the Knowledge Economy model's perspective on workplace changes. The study was based on a non-exhaustive literature review and an empirical study conducted with professionals from companies in Portugal belonging to several sectors of activity. Our research leads to the conclusion that the Knowledge Economy model, through technological innovation, has shaped the quality of work, bringing new insights and self-engagement of employees. However, digitalization might induce urgent needs for reskilling and upskilling. Therefore, it is essential to request such a challenge not only to employees but also to organizations and public authorities by investing in lifelong education and training and implementing policies, actions, and tools to facilitate the digital economy transition. Such proactive measures will propel the labor market towards greater availability of decent work, foster a more inclusive society, and promote social well-being and economic prosperity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

A broca do fruto do abacaxi Strymon megarus no Estado do Pará.
Fitossanidade 1

The desire for definitive data and the semantic web drive for inference over heterogeneous data sources requires co-reference resolution to be performed on those data. In particular, name disambiguation is required to allow accurate publication lists, citation counts and impact measures to be determined. This paper describes a graph-based approach to author disambiguation on large-scale citation networks. Using self-citation, co-authorship and document source analyses, AKTiveAuthor clusters papers, achieving precision of 0.997 and recall of 0.818 over a test group of eight surname clusters
