Weil pairing and the Drinfeld modular curve

Texas\u27s Townes Van Zandtwas a musician\u27s musician whose fame grew after his 1996 death. Brian T. Atkinson, contributor to the Austin AmericanStatesman, Texas Music, Lone Star, American Songwriter, and No Depression, has woven together a collection of interviews from Van Zandt\u27s contemporaries and friends, as well as his musical heirs-singer-songwriters who grew up too late to have known the troubled author of Pancho and Lefty, Tecumseh Valley, and Lungs but who admired his dark, poetic lyrics
Freedom of speech and the "ethical activity of thinking"
In this article, following the work of Hannah Arendt, the author argues that thought should be
placed at the centre of the reflection on freedom of speech. For Arendt thinking is a necessary
condition for the existence of an active political sphere and democratic politics. The absence
of thought on the other hand is central to totalitarianism. Arendt, reflecting on the trial of Nazi
bureaucrat Adolf Eichman, noted how the absence of any activity of thinking and the rigid following
of rules and clichés resulted in evil – what she calls the banality of evil.
The author focuses on the limits of liberal legal approaches to respond adequately to the
issue of freedom of expression, mainly because of the absence of thought and the preference for
predictable applications of rules and interpretations of rights in these approaches. Firstly, the
author exposes the law’s preoccupation with fairness, legitimacy, functionalism and economic
benefi t to the detriment of ethical thought and justice. Thereafter, the author recalls the argument
by Wesley Newcombe Hohfeld related to the indeterminacy of rights, as discussed by Joseph Singer.
Hohfeld made a radical intervention in traditional liberal legal assumptions by formulating the
category of no-right, thereby exposing the situations in which an individual, although she suffered
damage, will have no recourse in law. In the context of freedom of speech the category of no-right
and the reality of damage without recourse in law can play out in many ways – someone could
suffer damage because of speech without recourse to law or someone’s right to speech could be
infringed without recourse to law. Thirdly, Jacgues Derrida’s deconstructive notion of justice as
aporia is discussed to link up with the urgency of thought and judgement in the face of instrumental
rule-following. Finally the author considers the application of Derrida’s notion of auto-immunity/
self-destruction to the law and particularly to the right to freedom of expression. If the legal right
to freedom of speech has the tendency to self destruct each attempt to protect one kind of speech
would always already also have destructed and prevented that same speech.
The author argues that thought should guide the allowance and limitation of freedom of speech
and not a predictable application of rules, dogma and jargon. She concludes with reference to
an application of Arendt’s insistence on the link between the activity of thinking and democratic
politics within the context of the politics that surrounded the proposed legislation on same sex
marriages, citing in this regard Jaco Barnard’s recent work, which persuasively shows how
thoughtless behaviour allowed moments of a totalitarian politics.
oortuigend aantoon hoe gedagtelose optrede totalitêre politiek toelaat

Computing Galois Groups for Certain Classes of Ordinary Differential Equations
As of now, it is an open problem to find an algorithmthat computes the Galois group G of an arbitrary linear ordinary differential operator L in C(x)[D]. We assume thatC is a computable, characteristic-zero,algebraically closed constant field with factorization algorithm. In this dissertation, we present new methods forcomputing differential Galois groups in two special cases. An article by Compoint and Singer presents a decision procedure to compute G in case L is completely reducible or, equivalently, G is reductive. Here, we present the results of an article by Berman and Singerthat reduces the case of a productof two completely reducible operators to thatof a single completely reducible operator;moreover, we give an optimization of that article's core decision procedure. These results rely on results from cohomologydue to Daniel Bertrand. We also give a set of criteria to compute the Galois group of a differential equation of the formy⁽³⁾ + ay' + by = 0, a, b in C[x].Furthermore, we present an algorithm to carry out this computation in case C is the field of algebraic numbers. This algorithm applies the approach used inan article by M. van der Put to study order-two equations with one or two singularpoints. Each step of the algorithm employs a simple, implementable test based on some combination of factorization properties, properties of associated operators, and testing of associated equations for rational solutions. Examples of the algorithm and a Maple implementation writtenby the author are provided
The key role of nitric oxide in hypoxia: hypoxic vasodilation and energy supply-demand matching
Significance: a mismatch between energy supply and demand induces tissue hypoxia with the potential to cause cell death and organ failure. Whenever arterial oxygen concentration is reduced, increases in blood flow - 'hypoxic vasodilation' - occur in an attempt to restore oxygen supply. Nitric oxide is a major signalling and effector molecule mediating the body's response to hypoxia, given its unique characteristics of vasodilation (improving blood flow and oxygen supply) and modulation of energetic metabolism (reducing oxygen consumption and promoting utilization of alternative pathways). Recent advances: this review covers the role of oxygen in metabolism and responses to hypoxia, the hemodynamic and metabolic effects of nitric oxide, and mechanisms underlying the involvement of nitric oxide in hypoxic vasodilation. Recent insights into nitric oxide metabolism will be discussed, including the role for dietary intake of nitrate, endogenous nitrite reductases, and release of nitric oxide from storage pools. The processes through which nitric oxide levels are elevated during hypoxia are presented, namely (i) increased synthesis from nitric oxide synthases, increased reduction of nitrite to nitric oxide by heme- or pterin-based enzymes and increased release from nitric oxide stores, and (ii) reduced deactivation by mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase. Critical issues: several reviews covered modulation of energetic metabolism by nitric oxide, while here we highlight the crucial role NO plays in achieving cardiocirculatory homeostasis during acute hypoxia through both vasodilation and metabolic suppression Future directions: we identify a key position for nitric oxide in the body's adaptation to an acute energy supply-demand mismatc
Designing Met Gala dress for singer Björk
Diplomsko delo z naslovom Oblikovanje Met Gala obleke za pevko Björk raziskuje tehnološki vidik oblikovanja oblačila s pomočjo umetne inteligence in 3D-tiskanja.
Detajlno so opisani proces izdelave z namiznim 3D-tiskalnikom, uporabljeni materiali in stroški izdelave.
Diploma thesis titled Designing a Met Gala dress for singer Björk explores the technological aspect of garment design using artificial intelligence and 3D printing.
The theoretical part examines Björk as a musical, cultural and artistic icon. Her approach to fashion and her wearing of non-traditional, almost custom-like clothing pieces is explored. The thesis also covers her perspective on 3D printed fahion, as well as the artists who have showcased it in the fashion world. Fashion designers such as Iris van Herpen, Danit Peleg, ThreeASFOUR, Nervous Systems and Sew Printed, who have been crucial in the further development of 3D printed fashion, are discussed in detail. Additionally, the research includes the Met Gala event, specifically the 2024 edition titled »Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion«. The use of artificial intelligence, its application in everyday life, and its potential in contemporary fashion are also addressed.
The experimental part involves the design and creation of the garment using artificial intelligence and various computer programs. The process of production with a desktop 3D printer is described in detail, including the materials used and cost of manufacturing. The author explores a new design technique, learns about an unfamiliar material, and pushes the boundaries of her design process.
The main objective was to create a wearable garmet using a new, still relatively unexplored technology. The result of the thesis is a movable garment, fully printed and made from plastic material using a home 3D printer
Factors Influencing the Implementation of Antimicrobial Stewardship in Primary Care: A Narrative Review
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is directly driven by inappropriate use of antibiotics. Although the majority of antibiotics (an estimated 80%) are consumed in primary care settings, antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) activities in primary care remain underdeveloped and factors influencing their implementation are poorly understood. This can result in promising stewardship activities having little-to-no real-world impact. With this narrative review, we aim to identify and summarize peer-reviewed literature reporting on (1) the nature and impact of AMS interventions in primary care and (2) the individual and contextual factors influencing their implementation. Reported activities included AMS at different contextual levels (individual, collective and policy). AMS activities being often combined, it is difficult to evaluate them as stand-alone interventions. While some important individual and contextual factors were reported (difficulty to reach physicians leading to a low uptake of interventions, tight workflow of physicians requiring implementation of flexible and brief interventions and AMS as a unique opportunity to strengthen physician-patients relationship), this review identified a paucity of information in the literature about the factors that support or hinder implementation of AMS in primary care settings. In conclusion, identifying multilevel barriers and facilitators for AMS uptake is an essential step to explore before implementing primary care AMS interventions
Efficacy of alemtuzumab over 6 years in relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis patients who relapsed between courses 1 and 2: Post hoc analysis of the CARE-MS studies
Background:Alemtuzumab is administered as two annual courses for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). Patients may relapse before completing the two-course regimen. Objective: The objective was to evaluate 6-year outcomes in patients who relapsed between alemtuzumab Courses 1 and 2 (early relapsers). Methods:Post hoc analysis of patients from the Comparison of Alemtuzumab and Rebif (R) Efficacy in Multiple Sclerosis (CARE-MS) studies who enrolled in the extension. Results:Early relapsers (CARE-MS I: 15%; CARE-MS II: 24%) had more relapses in 1-2 years pre-alemtuzumab and higher mean baseline Expanded Disability Status Scale score than patients without relapse. Their annualized relapse rate declined from Year 1 (CARE-MS I: 1.3; CARE-MS II: 1.2) to Year 2 following Course 2 (0.3; 0.5) and remained low thereafter. Over 6 years, 60% remained free of 6-month confirmed disability worsening; 24% (CARE-MS I) and 34% (CARE-MS II) achieved 6-month confirmed disability improvement. During Year 6, 69% (CARE-MS I) and 68% (CARE-MS II) were free of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) disease activity. Median percent yearly brain volume loss (Year 1: -0.67% (CARE-MS I); -0.47% (CARE-MS II)) declined after Course 2 (Year 6: -0.24%; -0.13%). Conclusion: Early relapsers' outcomes improved after completing the second alemtuzumab course. These findings support administering the approved two-course regimen to maximize clinical benefit.
