    This article aims to demonstrate how Charles I of Anjou’s figure and government affected the development of a European cultural and political identity between 1246 and 1285. In fact, the features of anti-Angevin literature (whose major promoters were Occitan troubadours) confirm the existence of a common awareness of political instability and of a widespread feeling of opposition to Charles. In this sense, the fact that different authors used similar recurring forms, themes and rhetorical strategies at the same time suggests the existence of a European identity. New data are given to corroborate this hypothesis, such as the position of German Minnesänger, Austorc de Segret and Ricaut Bonomel (active in the Holy Land), as well as the involvement of European kings (such as Peter III of Aragon, Alfonso X of Castile and Edward I of England) in the context of anti-Angevin poetry

    Il contributo esamina la leggenda medievale degli amori giovanili di Carlo Magno e ne analizza l’evoluzione attraverso lo studio comparativo di alcune delle sue principali riscritture francesi e italiane. In particolare, l’indagine si sofferma sui frammenti del Mainet e sul primo libro dell’Istoire le roy Charlemaine di Girart d’Amiens, sulla riscrittura franco-italiana nota come Karleto e sui Reali di Francia di Andrea da Barberino. Di quest’ultima opera si rilevano inoltre gli elementi di adesione alla cultura letteraria toscana del Medioevo (specialmente stilnovistica e novellistica) e il debito formale e contenutistico rispetto alla leggenda, anch’essa tramandata dal romanzo di Andrea, degli amori di Buovo d’Antona e Drusiana.This article examines the Medieval legend of young Charlemagne’s love experiences and analyzes its evolution through a comparative investigation of its main French and Italian rewritings. In particular, the contribution focuses on the fragments of Mainet and on the first book of Girart d’Amiens’ Istoire le roy Charlemaine, on the Franco-Italian Karleto and on Andrea da Barberino’s Reali di Francia. The latter work also allows us to highlight Andrea’s general adhesion to the Tuscan literary culture of the Middle Ages (especially Stilnovo and novella) and its indebtedness, in both form and content, to the love story of Buovo d’Antona and Drusiana, also included in Andrea’s work

    Here is an analysis of the tale of the marriage of al-Hadhād (of the Ḥimiar royal dynasty) with a woman of jinn found in Arabic sources dated from the 9th to 12th century. In the light of archaeological data and other folklore sources collected by scholars in the last 60 years (Serjeant, Daum, Rodionof), this tale could be interpreted as a foundation myth, with its strong anthropological and political implications, for the community of Maʾrib, the capital city and the main site of Sabaic religiousness in pre-Islamic times. It could also provide some keys of interpretation of a more general religious sensitivity in Arabia encompassing polytheistic or monotheistic creeds

    In this article we examine an excerpt from the Berlin version of the Franco-Italian chanson de geste of Huon d’Auvergne in which a character named Zenat is mentioned. This hitherto unnoticed reference allows to call into question the problem of the authorship of Huon d’Auvergne, to reconnect the Huon to the Gui de Nanteuil of the Marciana Library in Venice and possibly to identify Zenat with the Giovanni Vigentino mentioned by Andrea da Barberino in his Storia di Ugone d’Avernia.L’articolo esamina un passo della redazione berlinese della chanson franco-italiana di Huon d’Auvergne nel quale si menziona un personaggio di nome Zenat. Questa traccia sinora inosservata permette di riaprire il discorso sull’autorialità dell’Huon d’Auvergne, di ricollegare l’opera al Gui de Nanteuil della Biblioteca Marciana di Venezia e possibilmente di identificare Zenat con il Giovanni Vigentino evocato da Andrea da Barberino nella Storia di Ugone d’Avernia

    Nel contributo si propone una nuova datazione per il Roi de Sicile di Adam de la Halle, opera nella quale il poeta celebra il re di Sicilia Carlo d’Angiò. Secondo la nuova ipotesi, il testo sarebbe anteriore al settembre 1267, quando Corradino di Svevia intraprese la sua discesa in Italia. Anche in ragione dello slittamento cronologico, si avanza l’ipotesi che l’opera possa essere stata composta non a Napoli, bensì in Francia, ove si inserirebbe all’interno di una più compatta e consolidata tradizione letteraria.The contribution offers a new date for the composition of Adam de la Halle’s Roi de Sicile, an eulogistic poem in honour of Charles of Anjou, king of Sicily. According to the suggested hypothesis, the poem should date back before Conradin’s descent to Italy, which occurred since September 1267. The paper also proposes France instead of Naples as a more suitable location for the composition and performance of the Roi de Sicile, by considering the contemporary French literary tradition.</p

    Some Verses by Ḥassān b. Ṯābit al-Anṣārī Not Included in His Dīwān

    Many poems and fragmentary verses have been ascribed to Ḥassān b. Ṯabit al-Anṣrī (d. ca. 40/659). In some sources of Southern-Arabian cultural or political orientation—as al-Hamdānī’s Kitāb al-Iklīl, the commentary to Našwān al-Ḥimyarī’s Qaṣīda al-ḥimyariyya, and particularly the anonymous Waṣāyā al-mulūk (occasionally ascribed to al-Aṣmaʿī or to al-Ḫuzāʿī)—about fifty lines by Ḥassān are found which are not recorded in his “official” dīwān. Here a brief investigation is conducted in order to reconstruct the poems which could be ascribed either to Ḥassān b. Ṯābit or one of his forgers. A collation of those same verses is then presented together with an English translation

    Il contributo esamina, nella prima parte, il sonetto provenzale di Paolo Lanfranchi e lo contestualizza, sulla base dei contenuti storici e dei rapporti della produzione lanfranchiana con la poesia trobadorica di pertinenza catalana, all’interno della corte barcellonese di Pietro III d’Aragona, dove Lanfranchi potrebbe aver soggiornato nel 1285. Nella seconda parte si osservano, invece, i punti di tangenza testuale tra il sonetto e alcuni componimenti di Raimbaut de Vaqueiras, la cui conoscenza da parte di Lanfranchi sarebbe avvenuta proprio in occasione del suo soggiorno a Barcellona. The contribution of this article is twofold. The first part of the work links Paolo Lanfranchi’s provençal sonnet with Peter III of Aragon royal court background, where Lanfranchi might have been in 1285. The hypothesis is based on both the historical contents of the sonnet and the connection between Lanfranchi’s poems and Occitan lyric tradition in Catalonia. The second part elaborates on the sources of the sonnet and identifies them in three poems by Raimbaut de Vaqueiras, which Lanfranchi might have discovered during his stay in Barcelona. </div

    D2MA: a distributed access protocol for wireless ATM networks

    The main purpose of this paper is to assess the feasibility of the distributed control approach in the definition of a wireless ATM MAC protocol. A novel protocol, named D2MA, is presented. D2MA is based on a double distribution of the access procedure and queueing capabilities. All the reservation and scheduling functions are performed by the mobile stations independently, whereas only passive operations are required to the base station. An accurate analytical model of D2MA has been developed. This model examines a single radio cell with a population m of mobile stations acting as traffic sources. Each station is equipped with a finite buffer of B cell size. A comparison with simulation results shows the accuracy of the analytical approach

    A sentence recorded in Arabic sources (namely Wahb b. Munabbih and Ibn Isḥāq) about the story of Ḥimyarite king Ḏū Nuwās shows some features that may be interpreted as "South-Arabian", though they can hardly be ascribed specifically to one of the epigraphic languages we know. The suggested interpretation could be a little hint for a reflection on non-written languages of Yemen in Late Antiquity and early Islamic Age
