Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Relative Importance of Emotional Intelligence’s Dimensions in Contributing to Dimensions of Job Performance
Career in service industry is emotional labor intensive, which turns performance of the employees into undesired status who are not emotionally intelligent. To put light on this issue the present study scrutinizes the significant contributor from four dimensions of emotional intelligence to three dimensions of job performance individually as well jointly. Data gathered from 292 bankers through instrument adopted from literature, regression results revealed that self emotional appraisal, others emotional appraisal, regulation of emotions and use of emotions significantly contribute task performance, counterproductive work behaviors and organizational citizenship behaviors individually as well as jointly. The use of emotions remained significant when included with other dimensions of emotional intelligence in the hierarchical regressions model after controlling for age and gender, whereas regulation of emotions lost its significance. In organizational citizenship behaviors maximum variation was observed due to emotional intelligence’s dimensions as compare to the other dimensions of job performance. Banks’ management could use these findings for recruitment, training and promotions of employees. Limitations and future suggestions are presented in later part
Impact of Perceived Organizational Support on Employee Retention with Mediating Role of Psychological Empowerment
Objective of this research is to study the effect of Perceived Organizational support at retention of employees with mediation of psychological empowerment in higher educational Institutions of Pakistan. Questionnaire of 31 items is adopted in which 8 item scales is adopted to measure Perceived organizational support, 12 item scale to measure psychological empowerment and 11 item scale to measure Employee retention. 200 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 170 were returned. Analysis of data is done by using SPSS 18 version. Findings of research document the existence of considerable and affirmative association of Perceived organizational support with employee retention by partial mediation of psychological empowerment. In Pakistan this relationship is studied for first time. This study is carried out in Pakistan where perceived organizational support and psychological empowerment have been scarcely investigated and Psychological empowerment is entirely an ignored variable in this regard
How Transformational Leadership is related to Organizational Citizenship Behavior? The Mediating Role of Emotional Intelligence
Managers’ emotional intelligence (EI), organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and leadership styles play an imperative role in the organizational success. The current research investigates the mediating role of EI on the relationship between OCB and transformational leadership (TL). Data has been collected from employees of banking service sector of Pakistan. SPSS and Amos have been used to test the hypotheses of study in the conceptual model. Total sample size for this study is N=300. The value for Cronbach alpha is 0.907. The results provide an evidence for the mediating effect of EI on the relationship between TL and OCB. The paper concludes with the discussion on results and implications for the academicians and manager
Relationship between Organizational Culture and Knowledge Hiding in Software Industry: Mediating Role of Workplace Ostracism and Workplace Incivility
Increasingly it is recognized that in the software industry, knowledge hiding can cause serious economic losses to organizations. This study seeks to find the relationship between organizational culture and knowledge hiding. We further focused on the mediating role of workplace ostracism and workplace incivility with the help of various theories in the link between organizational culture and knowledge hiding which are also the antecedents of knowledge hiding. Background of knowledge hiding is still not extensively explored in previous studies yet and this research focused keenly on it. The sample size of the study consists of 300 employees working in three software houses of Pakistan as well as structural equation modeling was used with cross-sectional deductive positivist approach, whereas research design was explanatory and descriptive in nature. We found that organizational culture has a significant relationship with knowledge hiding and additionally, workplace ostracism and workplace incivility as mediators created positive channels between organizational culture and knowledge hiding. However workplace ostracism and workplace incivility partially mediate in this study.
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
