First person – Olivia Susanto
ABSTRACT
First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Olivia Susanto is the first author on ‘LPP3 mediates self-generation of chemotactic LPA gradients by melanoma cells’, published in Journal of Cell Science. Olivia is a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Robert Insall at the Beaton Institute in Glasgow, UK, where she focuses on imaging live cell interactions and cell migration both in vivo and in vitro, in cell biology and immunology.</jats:p

The results of the study show the condition of karawitan extracurricular activities at SD Negeri Sumberagung. The ownership of the gamelan used belongs to the studio near the school. With the results of calculating the significance level obtained 0.00 so that there is an accepted hypothesis of the influence of musical extracurriculars at SDN Sumberagung. regulate all aspects of human life, in order to achieve a high degree of
life. Da'i as the perpetrator of the spread of Islam throughout the life
of the ummah, must master the right method and in accordance with
the conditions of the ummah. Da'i who master the method well, will
be able to harmonize the teachings of Islam with the times, so that
Islamic teachings are always chosen as an alternative in solving life

What do we know and not know about potential output?
Potential output is an important concept in economics. Policymakers often use a one-sector neoclassical model to think about long-run growth, and often assume that potential output is a smooth series in the short run--approximated by a medium- or long-run estimate. But in both the short and long run, the one-sector model falls short empirically, reflecting the importance of rapid technical change in producing investment goods; and few, if any, modern macroeconomic models would imply that, at business cycle frequencies, potential output is a smooth series. Discussing these points allows us to discuss a range of other issues that are less well understood, and where further research could be valuable.Input-output analysis ; Productivity ; Monetary policy
Factor Hoarding and the Propagation of Business Cycles Shocks
This paper analyzes the role of variable capital utilization rates in propagating shocks over the business cycle. To this end we formulate and estimate an equilibrium business cycle model in which cyclical capital utilization rates are viewed as a form of factor hoarding. We find that variable capital utilization rates substantially magnify and propagate the impact of shocks to agents' environments. The strength of these propagation effects is evident in the dynamic response functions of various economy wide aggregates to shocks in agents' environments, in the statistics that we construct to summarize the strength of the propagation mechanisms in the model and in the volatility of exogenous technology shocks needed to explain the observed variability in aggregate U.S. output. Other authors have argued that standard Real Business Cycle (RBC) models fail to account for certain features of the data because they do not embody quantitatively important propagation mechanisms. These features include the observed positive serial correlation in the growth rate of output, the shape of the spectrum of the growth rate of real output and the correlation between the forecastable component of real output and various other economic aggregates. Allowing for variable capital utilization rates substantially improves the ability of the model to account for these features of the data.
Why is productivity procyclical? Why do we care?
Productivity rises in booms and falls in recessions. There are four main explanations for this procyclical productivity: (i) procyclical technology shocks, (ii) widespread imperfect competition and increasing returns, (iii) variable utilization of inputs over the cycle, and (iv) resource reallocations. Recent macroeconomic literature views this stylized fact of procyclical productivity as an essential feature of business cycles because each explanation has important implications for macroeconomic modeling. In this paper, we discuss empirical methods for assessing the importance of these four explanations. We provide microfoundations for our preferred approach of estimating an explicitly first-order approximation to the production function, using a theoretically motivated proxy for utilization. When we implement this approach, we find that variable utilization and resource reallocations are particularly important in explaining procyclical productivity. We also argue that the reallocation effects that we identify are not "biases" -- they reflect changes in an economy’s ability to produce goods and services for final consumption from given primary inputs of capital and labor. Thus, from a normative viewpoint, reallocations are significant for welfare; from a positive viewpoint, they constitute potentially important amplification and propagation mechanisms for macroeconomic modeling.Productivity ; Business cycles
