Abstract : Nowadays in Brazil the education of people with a hearing impairment evolves with the perspective of a bilingual education (Portuguese x Libras ? the Brazilian sign language), a proposal approved in the National Congress. One of the biggest challenges in teaching people with a hearing impairment is the contribution of teaching materials translated into Libras, which allows deaf children to be in contact with the knowledge existent in their language. The overall goal of this research is to investigate videos of children's literary works in Libras, and analyze the anthropomorphism?s strategies used by deaf translators / actors. According to Sutton-Spence and Napoli (2010), anthropomorphism means giving human characteristics to animals or inanimate objects. This work is focused on the deaf translator / actor, since he also interprets, he is an actor (Novak, 2005), and contributes with his cultural, deaf experience. The translator/actor follows a Deaf translation Norm (Stone, 2009). This work is based on the interlingual translation (Jakobson) of the written Portuguese into Libras. It is also about an intermodal translation between two different modalities (sign-visual language/oral-hearing language) (Segala, 2010); intersemiotic translation (Jakobson, 1975), from the written language into sign language (visual/video), and ethnocentric translation (Berman, 2013), a cultural translation through which it is possible to embellish and translate according to the culture of the target-language (deaf culture). For the analysis of the tale ?The Three Little Pigs?, three videos have been selected, and three different anthropomorphism strategies have been adopted by the deaf translators/actors for the four characters of the tale. The cultural anthropomorphism of the Deafhood has also been analyzed in the characters of the last video, with examples of deaf elements. And it was possible to perceive the wide range of possibilities for the use of this strategy. We hope this work is a contribution to deaf translators/actors in the future through the vast array of possibilities for using anthropomorphism for the translation of literary material into Libras. And also to the people involved in the education of hearing impaired students, such as teachers, interpreters, and storytellers, aiming the qualitative improvement of the language, and contributing with its propagation in educational and social areas with the appreciation of the linguistic creativity, and the expression of deaf subjectivity

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Abstract : This study aimed to investigate and draw a trajectory of the development of lexicographical repertoires of Brazilian Sign Language, whose analysis focused on the development of lexical definition presented in the works. For its realization, the survey included the selection of four bibliographic sources: Eugene Oates author of Linguagem das mãos (Language of the hands), Harry W. Hoemann, Shirley A. Hoemann and Eugenio Oates they are authors of "A língua de sinais do Brasil" (The Sing Language of Brazil), Fernando Cezar Capovilla, Walkiria D. Raphael and Aline CL Mauricio they are authors of the New Deitlibras Illustrated Trilingual Encyclopedic Dictionary of Brazilian Sign Language, Tanya Amara Felipe de Souza and Guilherme Azambuja Lira, they are authors of the "Dictionary of Brazilian Sign Language Signs INES version 2.0. These bibliographic sources are considered representative of the phases of development of the lexicography of the Brazilian Sign Language. From the selection of these works, it has been established benchmarking methodology of information regarding the lexical units with meta-lexicographic development criteria of lexical definition. The results of this analysis showed a significant methodological construction process of the lexicographical treatment applied to units of lexical repertoires of Brazilian Sign Language

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

A percepção do corpo próprio e o “ser surdo”

This article presents a new perspective on the hearing impaired person, which is not found either in the paradigm of the disabled, where medical issues are dominant, or in the theory of representations, which focuses on cultural issues. The paper emphasizes the magnitude of being and seeing the person as oneself in his or her potentialities. Through readings of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, it conceives of the body as a primary element in the investigation of the constitution of being, revealing inherent specificities that emerge in life as cultural factors. The investigation turns to the focus on things themselves, the body itself, not as an object for comparison, or an object of representation, but as itself in its integrity and expression.O presente artigo apresenta uma nova forma de ver a pessoa surda, não se encontrando, portanto, nem no paradigma da deficiência, no qual a medicina se manifesta, tampouco na teoria das representações, que fecunda a cultura para constituir o sujeito.
