Point Quarter Method is a plant community structure measurement procedure. The technique is base on measurement of distance of four plants or trees in every quarter that is made by four space in the cross line sampling field studies. In forest sampling, point centered quarter methods is considered as the efficient, reliable and accurate data, not only for mean distance and density, but for frequency and dominance of species. So it is important to try wether these method ould be applicated to animal, especially crab. These method was applicated for crab population in Padang Beach at December 22nd, 2014. Ten points quartered were made and the distance of every Ocypode sp crab burrow was counted by ruler. Mean distance of crabs burrow gained by divided of total number of quarter (20) with mean distance of every burrow to the point. Density per hectare is 10,000 m divided by quadratic of mean distance. Mean distance of burrow to points were counted and prediction of population per hectare could be found. In these case, mean distance was: 0.41 m and crab population is :59,488.34 individu per hectare. Compared to other species , eg Scylla serrata, its population is bigger, eventhough the condition of beach is polluted and waste

A pair of hairy nosed otter (Lutra sumatrana) had een care during three years, with 3.2 – 4 kg weight,  50 – 60 cm bofy  length,  and consumed 1 kg food (hens/cock heads), never overcome sick, and looks like commonly pet.  These otters would come back to their home, even be released to the nature

(Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-9 Tahun 2021, Palembang  20 Oktober 2021. pp. 872-877.  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI). An investigation had been done on the adventitious roots of Melaleuca leucadendra , last September 2020, at Tanjung Raya swamp side, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia.  Direct measuring be done on the hidden under bark roots, by counting the number, size, growth ward, and branching character. It is found that 5 – 15 roots are exist on the trunk, about 0.5 – 2 m height , with maximum lenght is 60±6,78 cm, maximum size 6±0,65 mm diameter, and it is branched. Thirty three percents are growth upward (negative geotroph behavior). From this time and future, botanist could make notes, that a spesies has under bark branched roots and growth upward (negative geotropism ); M leucadendra

Marisa H.  2022. Hypolytrum nemorum leaves as the nest host of pollinator paper wasp Ropalidia fasciata. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang  27 Oktober 2022. pp. 61-66. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Sepejam is vernacular name for Hypolytrum nemorum, a member of Ceperaceae family, but their visual leaves looks like Pandanceae. This plant usually growth at swamp side or ponds side area. Survey on 26th June, 2022 at Sriwijaya University ponds, found a sepejam plant. Study on the top leaves of this sample plant, found the paper wasp (Ropalidia fasciata) nest hanged there. Ropalidia fasciata had reported usually made their nest at sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) and wild grass (Miscanthus sinensis) in Japan, but the nest commonly exist at Cocos nucifera in Taiwan, and often found hung at twigs and leaves of broadleaves tree in Sumatra. But now, it is found Ropalidia fasciata paper wasp, made their nest under Hypolytrum nemorum leaves, at pond side, Indralaya, Sumatra. The nest made at central vein of lining leaves, at the top of twig, close to the inflorescence. Leaves host was 15 cm length, 2 cm wide, 90 cm height from the ground surface. There are 5 individu of H nemorum clumped, and 10 inflerescences, which the pH of soil about 6.5–7 and light intensity 2000 lux at daylight, and soil humidity about 30-40 %. So, it is need to consider, protection of H nemorum in South Sumatra, as the nest habitat of pollinator paper wasp, R fasciata

An investigation about the power of redwood bark sap to invite stingless bee arrival had been done at Biology campus area, The University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya, South Sumatera, Indonesiaduring Nopember 2010. Redwood breadfruit bark have been hurt for outcoming the red sap, and duration time for stingless bee arrival be measured then. Meanly, in 17 minutes, stingless bee had came for red sapand in 5 minutes for breadfruit. Chemical test of redwood sap after soluted in methanol and put on gelsilicon chromatography with ethil-acetate and methanol (1:1), and sprayed by sulphic acid indicate that the compounds is terpenid (tannin) for red wood sap, and tannin and alcaloid for bread fruit sap

An invesgation about size and colour of Marchantia sp moss, had been done in Cughup Embun water fall, Pagar Alam, South Sumatera, Indonesia at November 9th, 2014(end of drough season). The aim was to know wether the distance from water fall (air and soil moisture) should effect the size and colour of those moss. Twenty meters sistematically distance in 4 points location  from above slope to water fall pond; 5, 25, 45, 65 and 85 m were considered for Marchantia sp sampling. Body size, colour and existing of Sporangium were noted. It is found that the size of moss body gradually bigger from 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.3  and 1.3 cm. Colour of moss change An from pale brown, pale green, green and deep green. Amount  of archegoniopore seems exist in many number at 45 m distance from above ground. Keywords: Marchantia sp, moisture, archegoniopore, antheridiopore

Influence the Rubber Seed Type and Altitude on Characteristic of Seed, Oil and Biodiesel

This research studies the influence of the type of rubber seed that is superior and local, altitude plant in South Sumatra province to the characteristic of seed, oil and biodiesel (methyl ester). Rubber plants planted from local rubber seed by seeds seedlings and superior rubber seed by selected clones. In the study, rubber plants planted at a different altitude, namely in Banyuasin district (18 m above sea level), Prabumulih District (176 m above sea level) and Lahat District (627 m above sea level). The results showed that the weight of the flour, the water content and ash content in the local rubber seeds larger than the superior rubber seed for all altitude, but oil content a large in the superior rubber seeds. The major of fatty acids in the rubber seed oil in all types and altitude are a linoleic acid with a different percentage except local rubber seed oil from Lahat district with the large percentage of octadecanoic acid. Free fatty acids in the oil from the superior seeds rubber of 13.897-15.494 % large than local rubber seed oil was found 9.786-10.399 % for all altitude. By esterification process using sulfuric acid catalyst, Free Fatty Acid (FFA) can be reduced to ≤ 2 %. The methyl ester made from the transesterification process of rubber seed oil after esterification using methanol and sodium hydroxide as catalyst. Analysis of methyl esters includes cetane index, flash point, kinematic viscosity, carbon residue, density, moisture content, water and sediment content and distillation compared with SNI 7182 and ASTM 6751-02.  The result indicated that the quality of methyl ester from superior rubber seed oil in the Banyuasin and Prabumulih district better than another methyl ester. The types of rubber seed altitude affect the characteristics of the seed, oil and methyl ester  but the altitude are not significantly different.
