Psychometric Assessment of the Italian Version of the Vaccination Attitudes Examination (VAX) Scale and Exploration of Its Link With Policy Endorsement
Two key steps in addressing the vaccination hesitancy issue are assessing the population's attitudes toward vaccination and making measures' availability as broad as possible (not limited to English-speaking populations). To reach the latter goal, we adapted the Vaccination Attitudes Examination (VAX) Scale to the Italian context. This scale has the advantages of not being vaccine-specific and of measuring individual attitudes rather than parental vaccination decisions, making it a widely adopted tool. Our scale exhibited the same desirable psychometric properties as the original version. Our investigation involved a sample of N=479 respondents showing the measurement's internal consistency and confirming the original factorial structure. Moreover, we confirmed the scale's high criterion-related validity linking greater anti-vaccination scores to previous vaccination behaviors, and we confirmed measurement invariance by running a multi-group confirmatory factor analysis comparing our current data with existing data. Additionally, we explored the scale's capabilities by linking the measure to the endorsement of infection-spreading countermeasures, a useful insight for behavioral scientists and policy-makers

ADULT ATTACHMENT STYLE AND SUICIDALITY
Background: There is evidence in the literature that adverse early attachment experiences and subsequent attachment
insecurities during adulthood would lead to pessimism, low self-esteem, hopelessness and, ultimately, to suicide risk.
Subjects and methods: This paper aims to review finding on the link between attachment style and suicidality. We searched the
literature using the database of the U.S. National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)-MedLine/Pubmed system from
January 1992 until December 2016. We started with 1992 because, as far as we know, there are no published studies exploring the
relationship between suicide and insecure attachment before that year. We considered reports published on the relationship between
attachment style and suicidality. We applied several combinations of the following search terms: attachment, adult attachment style
and suicidality, suicide, suicidal ideation, suicidal behavior or suicidal thoughts, and suicide attempts. We selected only English
language studies.
Results: Research suggests that insecure attachment style, mostly anxious, and unresolved traumas are associated with an
increased suicide risk. Few studies prospectively examined clinical course, comorbid psychiatric disorders, familial suicidality or
other psychosocial factors.
Conclusions: Further research is needed to highlight the nature of the link between attachment and suicidality. The presence of
suicidal ideation and attempts might be a consequence of an underlying interaction between the emergence of psychiatrics symptoms,
and the long-lasting presence of inadequate patterns of attachment. Within this context, Separation Anxiety Disorder, categorized in
the DSM-5 as a condition not confined to childhood but as an anxiety disorder that may occur through the entire lifespan, might be
the a key for the comprehension of this link. From a neurobiological point of view, the role of oxytocin remains unclear
Mindfulness and Defense Mechanisms as Explicit and Implicit Emotion Regulation Strategies against Psychological Distress during Massive Catastrophic Events
Emotion regulation is an important aspect of psychological functioning that influences subjective experience and moderates emotional responses throughout the lifetime. Adaptive responses to stressful life events depend on the positive interaction between explicit and implicit emotion regulation strategies, such as mindfulness and defense mechanisms. This study demonstrates how these emotion regulation strategies predict psychological health during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. A convenience sample of 6385 subjects, recruited via snowball sampling on various social media platforms, responded to an online survey assessing psychological reaction to social restrictions imposed to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Italy. Psychological distress, post-traumatic stress symptoms, mindfulness, and defense mechanisms were assessed using SCL-90, IES-R, MAAS, and DMRS-30-SR, respectively. Higher mindfulness was significantly associated with higher overall defensive maturity and a greater use of high-adaptive defenses (p < 0.0001). Both mindfulness and defense mechanisms acted as good predictors of psychological health (R2 = 0.541) and posttraumatic symptoms (R2 = 0.332), confirming the role of emotion regulation in protecting against maladaptive responses to stressful situations
